2025 Cranberry Cup Junior Women Short Program

Hannah QUINN CAN 53.77 - into 5th

Music: "La Cumparsita"

Tech:
3T-3T - wow, I have no idea how she got so much height out of that second jump...
3Lo - step
FSSp
2A
LSp
StSq
CCoSp

Notes:
Wow, definitely the best performance of the Canadian girls today so far! I really like the sass of this program, but I'd love to see her get a bit more comfortable with it - right now it definitely seems like landing the jumps is the focus, understandably, so it only comes through in little flashes. So much potential here, though! I'm realizing now that I really don't know the Canadian juniors well at all...

Post K&C: oh, she's so cute...new daughter unlocked?

She performed this better at NextGen, though the technical content was better executed here. I think this is only her second international competition, and first as a Junior in such a stacked field, so she might just have been very focused on getting through it as cleanly as she could.

And that's completely understandable, honestly, especially if this is only her second international - wow, she's even more impressive in light of that. I can only imagine both aspects of the program will continue to improve as she gets more mileage on it, and I'm excited to see that!

Oh, and I'm sure Hannah has many quasi-adoptive parents among those following Canadian skating, and probably soon internationally as well, so better move quickly if you want to adopt her

Hannah is freshly out of Novices, and in contrast to some others, she did not skate up last season, so it was easy to miss her. I didn't follow Canadian Novices super closly last season, so I knew of her, but I didn't realise she was this good until NextGen. Loved her immediately.

Cleo PARK USA 53.66 - into 6th

Music: "Moonlight Sonata" (second one today!) but this time it's got Spanish guitar

Tech:
2A - from Ina Bauer!!!

Notes:
Cleo is beautiful to watch and undeniably a quality skater, but today as usual, she struggled with rotation. Sometimes I wonder if that's related to her very open air position? A shame, because her spins and steps are easily among the best in this field.

Leila FESTIC BOS

Music: Shazam wouldn't tell me and her ISU bio isn't updated :/

Tech:
2S-2T
2A - fall
FSSp
2Lo

Notes:
Bosnia! I think this is the first time I've seen a Bosnian skater, which is awesome! Leila's got a very long line and is incredibly striking on the ice, which often translates to some really lovely spin positions.

Jumps weren't on her side but other than this pure quality...
She reminds me A LOT of Josephine Lee (albeit Josephine's jumps are a bit more solid): struggles to fully rotating her jumps, but just absolutely class of the field in everything else. Makes me sad that the rotation issues tend to drag her scores down.
