2025 JGP Riga Cup Men's Free Skate

I don't care about the Axel, but Rio, we would like to see three combinations. You don't need them here, but you might in the future.
so what's the story with not lutzing Rio ? is he trying to emulate Shoma ? Lutzes are fake here ? LOL (does he have an ankle issue with them like Nic Nadeau mentioned after his injury)
It is a fact that Rio admires Shoma...but I didn't expect the admiration to extend to his weaknesses as well... 😅

Genrikh Gartung really sets himself up to be a great contender in the Olympic Qualifying contest. I think he might Q for Olympics.
He scored better than both Carrillo and Daniliants who skated at Cranberry cup, and those two are rivals at the Q competition.

Part two to my comment :

What will really be interesting is if Skate Canada decides to give him a second JGP spot....when these are a rare commodity in the current Canadian economy.
I still suspect - as I said after Next Gen - that the 5th spot may go to whichever skater has performed best in their first grand prix. At Next Gen there was a gap between the top 4 and the next group. Whether that 5th spot goes to Grayson depends on what the others do, but I am not sure they will be able to match his performance and placement here!

the other 3 can score just above 200. but scoring 220 will require more stability... I think Bondar can do it... i don't think Anthony's 3 axel is ready yet... Eddy is a hot mess right now because he is adding quads, but he is getting more and more stable. As his GS daddy, I remain hopeful

and... with this, Canada has two medals this season already... I think the last time a man won a medal was Wesley's 4 years ago...

Protocols are interesting...

Grayson's Axels were both q. I didn't see that in real time... but I am no expert...

Also, judge 2. Thank you. It is refreshing to see a judge allowing scores that are not all the same for the 3 PCS categories. She's often marked composition 1 point lower than presentation and at times, skating skills is way above other categories which is not usually seen.

I really enjoyed looking at her scores :) (Latvian judge)

This may be way too early, but does Grayson have any senior B events?
too early indeed. Skate Canada gives early challenger events to those on the senior GP. However, Grayson has obtained the benchmark score to be granted a challenger so we may see him compete senior later this season.

I mean given the inconsistency of Canadian men, he could end up making the podium at nationals. And deserve senior experience.

I'll add Grayson's comments post-medal:

He is getting a second JGP (he is in a position where he could qualify for the final and beat their score for getting a second assignment by 10 points so he earned it). He is planning on competing Junior internationally, so I don't know if he'll go for a Challenger and wants to concentrate on Junior Worlds.

Congratulations to him!

sure but last year being an exception, Canadian men usually have quads in their programs. So, I am not sure he would get there yet.... especially with Keegan coming back and Gogolev too, (from injury). It's not impossible though. He may be able to get scores for 4CC but if he is our top junior, Skate Canada will only send him to JWC and not 4CC. I think you are a bit premature with needing a senior B and podium at Nationals etc ;) let's see first if he even gets a second JPG assignment.

@saine posted some more answers directly from Grayson... :) thanks

I support giving him a second JGP but... what if David Bondar gets a medal too and scores about the same points ? Would that mean that he cannot get a second assignment ? Or would that mean that either Anthony or Eddy would lose theirs ? just wondering... there are only 5 spots right ?

What I don't like is that he would know ahead of time before anyone else has a chance to earn theirs.

I think in that case, David would get a second assignment and whoever lost out on a JGP would be assigned to a Junior B instead.

and what if Anthony or Eddy shows up next and wins gold :) with an even higher score :)

Anthony is assigned to Bangkok with Rio, so it would certainly be an event if Anthony won.
Oh I like Rio but I would laugh like crazy of that happened....

Argh, why did he go for second 4Lz with an unfriendly panel and low PCSs? I guess his only choice was 2A or he would have zaiaked, but argh. That fall messed up everything for him. No final now.

He can still make the final.
