I don't want to press Kimmie down, I really like her spirit and her personality, but I also have to say after watching the video of the SP I believe she was marked appropriately IMHO and I am definitely not a COP expert like many on this esteemed board.
I tuned in and for some reason the sound was not working on the SP feed, so I watched without sound. What a difference sound makes..... Kimmie seemed incredibly slow, sluggish and her elements appeared level 1 and 2.
Examples: the way she drops the free leg before the donut spin - very sloppy looking.
- She doesn't appear to hold her spiral for the length required and how shaky it looked.
- The footwork section seemed very basic, slow, undeveloped. Definitely level 1 skill level (maybe 2 but that is stretching it).
- She travels alot on her spins.
- the prep for her 3loop was labored and ended in an unremarkable jump.
- Uninteresting ending to her program.
I don't think I'm nitpicking here - I believe she just does not have the content or technique that the top ladies have and that her basic skating skills have deteriorated. I compared her program to Fumie and to me, Kimmie just is not "fleet" any longer. Is it me, or does she seem muscle-bound? Especially her upper legs (the quads) look big to me. Just my take....
Even though I'm not much of a Kimmie fan, I understand why people would be outraged with her scores. We can argue whether her UR(s) are there or not, but I think what is more frustrating is when a skater like Kimmie today gets called on them, but other skaters who have clearly more underrotated jumps get a pass. That is what gets me a little frustrated.

However you put it, this is exactly what's been bothering and frustrating me forever. But then again, here comes a cliche: judges are human; they all make mistakes. How lame.....Just get over it ! ... BTW, what about sasha cohen's PCS at the Olympics 2006 or worlds 2006? At that time, PCS were probably " If you have any Problems, Sasha, you Can always come and talk to uS "![]()
If they downgraded her lutz the judges were really being harsh. I think Kimmie's programs this year are alot better than her previous programs artistically. Obviously, everyone has their own opinion.![]()
Cohen's PCS at Olympics should have been even higher. Artistically, that was the best Long Program we've seen a woman do under CoP.

I saw Kimmie's program too and she was anything but slow and labored. Her spins were sloppy today but they are usually good along with the rest of her basic skating skills. Her spiral sequence was not her best, but she appeared to hold her positions longer than 3 seconds(I rewatched and counted). Her 3 loop was beautiful IMO. Her 3 loop and 2 axel were definitly not underrotated. If they downgraded her lutz the judges were really being harsh. Does that make it correct?I read on another board that all of Kimmie's triples were underrotated and possibly even her 2axel.
For some not-well-thought-out reason, the CoP believes doing 3 complete(?) rotations in the air with a fall is much more worthy than a less than 3 rotations with an underrotation of more than 25%. However I disagree with this, I would still want to see who measures the 25%? The Tech Team of 3 all sit on one side of the arena, and all see the same skating. No reason to have 3; one will do. However, as Communications majors know, in small groups, one person will arise as the master of the group and the others will cower. As I understand it, an underrotation is actually worse than a fall.
For situations like what happened to Kimmie, I have come up with a new over-size smiley.
............... Feel free to use it anytime...........![]()
So what to expect tomorrow? I don't think Suguri will win this, after all she only landed 4 Triples at Skate Canada - and even if Kostner lands 6 messy Triples and falls on one, Kostner will be above Suguri. My money is actually on Flatt, I said it at Skate America and I say it again: her free program has potential, it is interesting and different - and if she puts down 5 to 6 clean Triples and good Axels and Kostner has a normal day (meaning: no more than 3 clean Triples) - Flatt should win this and perhaps even make the GPF.
Even the British commentators were gushing over Kimmie's performance, saying that's the best performance from her for a long long time. When the score came up, they couldn't figure out why it's so low. These two usually caught lots of underrotations in their past commentary.
In slow-mo, there's no obvious underrotation at all. This CoP is really a shame.
According to some of my friends from spain, so did their eurosport spain commentators. When marks came up they were "?????". So it's not only a few of us, but also the british and spanish commentators...
