2025-26 Russian Junior Grand Prix - Stage 2 - Magnitogorsk

Where did she lose TES other than the Lutz edge?
Her first spin was lowered to 2:

The only reason AINs were at Worlds is because they didn't have to qualify for Worlds in the post-Olympic season through Euros, where they wouldn't have been allowed to compete (courtesy of European Gymnastics' own ban of Russian and Belarusian gymnasts).

Praise the FIG all you want, but they are even weaker than the ISU and can't even keep continental organisations in line, nor stick to their own rules (based on their statutes, Worlds should have been cancelled the moment Israeli gymnasts were not allowed to enter Indonesia, but considering that they keep hosting Olympic qualifying events in Azerbaijan, they clearly don't care about that rule. They will have fun at the CAS hearings.)
That was a horrible thing. Just outrageous. But maybe will allow the sporting world to understand the harm of hurting individual athletes based on politics. Jakarta can never be allowed to host anything ever again. Shameful.

The sit spin only has a level 2 in the protocols, the combo spin a level 3.
Her first spin was lowered to 2:

I just rewatched the SSp. What level could they have taken off from the original lvl 3? Maybe the jumping entry wasn't big enough to be a death-drop, but I still saw 8 rotations (1) in broken-leg position (2) with jumping exit (3). They always give a level for jumping exits which are even less pronounced than what she did. In any case, the weak entry suggests she is still recovering and not in good form.

Early stage... I guess Eteri either thinks Margarita hasn't gotten enough competition in a while and will lose her performative ability without public starts, or she wants to get stages out of the way early to spend more uninterrupted time in constant training before Nationals? The latter is my hypothesis with Adeliia... Unless she is somehow already recovered (would be impressive). My main concern is to see Margarita get enough points to attend Channel 1 Cup. Even in her current form she should have been first today if she wasn't so nervous, so I really hope she brings it back tomorrow and at least takes a silver (I imagine Vika will farm Ultra-C and leave zero chance for anyone else to take gold. I don't see Margarita jumping any. If she doesn't take silver its a problem, TBH.).

The CoSp must have been level 4. It was very clearly 8 rotations in non-basic camel position (1), cannonball (2), then difficult transition (3) into a sort of layback I-spin (4). It is rarer to see girls not take a level 4 in the CoSp, than to take one. Even the lowest level stage girls take it usually.

Also, seems like judges and tech panels really took it to heart to start being stricter for everyone, including the top skaters. As long as it's the same standard across the competition, I think that's actually a decent development.
Though, IMO, it doesn't achieve the goal (matching international scores). That's a strict but very different judging.

I continued following judging and technical panels. At the first stage, the judges were experienced, but they hadn't appeared much at bigger events before. Here, most of the judges are very familiar.

International judging is not that strict. They very often leave edges uncalled, even quarters, and the PCS are all over the place.
Yes, that's why I say that it's strict but it hardly has anything to do with what happens at international competitions. By the way, juniors quite often got strict technical panels before. I remember a bunch of StSq1 and StSq2 on Jr Nats.

Two of my favs here Yana and Lera both did terribly :frown: they have quads, but not consistent ones, so I doubt they'll be able to climb their way up. But at least Miroslava did well!

Okay, Mikhail Aleksakhin's program is a bit too big for him, but atleast it's a program and that already makes it better than like 80% of what AoP has produced for most of their other skaters. Just saying.

I am surprised... I mean, it isnt surprising to me that a skater can loose the axel and keep the quads, and while although I can easily attribute the poor loop to nerves (she was obviously extremely nervous today), in general she doesn't look in form yet especially from the hesitant SSp entry. I wonder if she will return the 3A this season or not. She definitely has at least some recovery left to get through—in any case this isn't her peak shape. It seems this jump is the hardest for girls to regain when growing, while the 4T tends to stay easier.

Otherwise:

Both Sarafanova and Orekhovskaya are planning a 4Lz.

Streltsova planning 4S-2T, 3A, 4S, 4T+2A+2A

Boldyreva 4T+2T, 4T

Final podium should definitely look different, as neither first or second have any ultra-c.

Margo's dress is so cute, but the sash kind of ruins it and the waist should be higher. Not only has she matured physically, but it seems she put in some work on the artistic side of things, which is good, but there was smth quite clumsy about her skate, and she was still far below Miroslava (who should've been higher) and Petrova for me.
Miroslava, Lera, Yana, and Petrova had the best programs for me.
Streltsova continues to be a headcase, and she continues to skate around with no energy and the same tense look on her face as always.
Once again, sad for Yana and Lera. Hope they do well in the free. Otherwise ig it's back to novice nats for them. But ofc, they're both only 13, so not the end of the world.
And obviously there's still the free left, but ig Sarnovskaya's chances of making nats aren't completely gone

BTW I completely forgot GP China has started too. Ice dance is going on, not so interesting, in about 35 minutes women would start. I shall watch girls in Magnitogorsk of course but will take a look to China from time to time.

Commentators say some URs but generally it was really good skate.

Though I'm afraid TES will go down a lot if it takes so long to evaluate..

Is this sort of technical scrutiny really necessary... its been like 5 minutes and she is last place...
