2026 U.S. Nationals Senior Men Short Program

alright I have a whole stable of dancers to support at practice plus encouragement for my guys to find their redemption skates for the year, for their career, for 4CC berths - come what may

what time to I have to wake up? late - I can sleep in!!:bed:
only ladies and pairs - Emily & Spencer I'll be there...and for the incredible 3 ladies at the top
Yes @CoyoteChris I am planning to get a good sleep ( you are a good pal)

lots of practice videos posted and the commentary is really worth your time...

I love Jason, but I value fairness and integrity more. I think two of those jumps were well under, not just q... and I think he probably should have taken a fall deduction after that combo. Both hands on the ice and leaning his weight into them - doesn't that count as a fall?

On the other hand, I saw some pretty high GOEs for other skaters for some pretty scratchy elements. Maybe it all evens out.

US Nationals judging is really something. I want to see the protocols.

The protocols don’t help - a q step out both hands down and -3s/-4s from the majority of the judges and no fall deduction. I also think they were generous with the q’s. I appreciate Jason and his career and being sentimental fave, but that was amateurish for him. 46 PCS? He had wobbles, his 2014 had sharper better footwork and better projection and speed. They are pushing so hard for him to make top 3. Come on. I hope he has a solid freeskate but I also hope he will be judged fairly and not collect 95 PCS for whatever he puts out there and take a spot from someone who earns it. He was instrumental in getting 3 spots - yes. But that doesn’t entitle him to a spot - especially when he’s been to two Olympics. If he can’t do a quad he should at least be hitting his 3-3 and fully rotating his 3A. But I suppose USFS is keen to give him a victory lap.

Malinin was amazing but also his PCS was wild (even for US nationals). Incredible flawless jumping though (that 4F was a +5 as was that 3A) and I would have given higher GOE to those (a tad overscored on the spins though). Insanely great skate though.

Thrilled for Tomoki! He laid it down with pressure and I hope he has a chance to make it to the Olympics after such an up and down career.

Martinov was the only skater besides Ilia to land a clean quad. Face it, the team event men's fs will be a crapshoot, so Jason is still the best bet.

I agree. Don't get me wrong I love Jason & over the years he has been put on USA teams internationally because he always manages to rank in the top ten & with either Nathan or Ilia managed to get 3 man on future competitions. BUT feel he was overscored & it's time to let the new breed of youngsters shine.

crazy stuff

available already. have fun
Back from the protocols. Jason's combo got nearly all -5, so the judges may have counted it as a fall, even if he didn't get the deduction.

However, those two q's that should have been ur's snuck around a hit to base value that he didn't take. And, of course, he dodged the -1.00 fall deduction. That's not an insignificant amount.

The GOE on some of the other skaters that I complained about... for the most part, those elements did get appropriate -GOE, so that part of my gripe doesn't hold as much water.

The 3A was on the Q. I didn't carefully look at the rotations. I think he squeaked by. They definitely scored the combo as a fall, but as his butt didn't hit the ice, he avoided the 1 point deduction. It was hands down. It wasn't pretty. And many skaters got some boosts. This is why Nationals scores don't count internationally. But Jason's PCs did reflect the fall. Ilia beat him on PCs this time and it was justified. Jason saved himself with that step sequence and the spins. I hope he has a really good FS! I think he's still the best choice for the Olympic spot. And Tomoki is making a solid case for himself, especially if he nails his FS. They both need to nail their FS! They are neck and neck. Jason has a slightly better body of work, and his placements were better.

Yes, all the skaters got national inflation. Tomoki and Max would not get the PCS they got here abroad nor the rather generous GOE: Andrew wouldn't get that GOE or PCS with a fall.

I have no idea who or what Toothless is. but I was also told by an attendee (as confirmed above by @moonvine, but not her ;) ) that they were handed out to audience members close enough to throw, and throw they did.

I think it's a great idea. Want to give props to USFS when they do something cool.
