2026 U.S. Nationals Senior Men Short Program

Build a bear is headquartered in St. Louis and ended up being an official plushie sponsor, which I've never heard of happening before, but I would not be shocked if they donated the dragons as a part of their sponsorship since they sell toothless as one of their dolls anyway. I think it was just a lucky conjunction of the right sponsor in the right place. Now the question is what do they do with all the plushies since I don't think Ilia needs a whole room full of plush dragons. Hopefully they make it to Ronald McDonald's Houses with the rest of the Jason Brown toys.
Someone must know if Build a Bear sponsored the plushie craze. I mean how many people coudl afford to throw those plushy outs espeically the larger ones. There must have been 100 of them or more. Great PR I guess I wa amazed it is like they banned all other plushies as I didn't see any others in the sea of black.

USFS handed out the stuffies to be thrown. I don’t know if USFS got them from Build A Bear.

Most skaters donate the stuffed toys. Ilia no doubt does the same.

Good marketing

Shameful marketing more like it, to be honest :censored: It's quite low when they try to fool people into believing something is real when it is in fact organized corporate propaganda.

And the fact that USFS itself is behind this and openly "manufactures support" for one singled-out skater and for him only, in such an showy way and in the middle of Nationals of all places .... 😶 well, what kind of message does this send to all the others skaters? 😟 of course, they are all well aware of the situation by now, but still, making it so evident can't possibly be any good

Hopefully, as others have said, the toys will end up donated to kids who will appreciate them and wouldn't be able to have them otherwise, so at least something positive comes out of this charade

As someone who was in the arena but on the opposite of the plushie throw, everyone around me was laughing and found it really funny to see the rain of black plushies just suddenly come down like that. I actually had no idea that it was going to happen and must have missed the announcement about it during one of the zamboni breaks. However, it was obvious within a few seconds that it was coordinated because they had the "How To Train Your Dragon" signs and video up playing immediately.

Also, if you do follow Ilia, you'll know that HTTYD is his favorite movie and Toothless is his spirit animal. There's a livestream that he did back around 2022 or 2023 (I want to say before he even landed the 4A and definitely before any world titles) where he said he would love to have a Toothless rain one day like Hanyu did. As a result, fans have been giving him Toothless shirts and merch for years. I'm SURE that's why he even had a HTTYD ad with NBC to begin with. He had a small little Toothless rain last year after the Worlds 2025 SP which he loved. It doesn't matter that this was fan-coordinated or USFS/NBC-coordinated. What mattered is that Ilia loved it and was completely delighted, and I was really happy for him. Also, thank goodness Ilia actually had a blinder of a skate, because it would have been very awkward had he bombed it, haha.
