Completely. Definitely unheard of. Both them and Emilea and Vadym have had a record year, especially for ice dance.

They'd be back for Olympics 2030 in France anyway, and in that case I'd prefer them to at least come back soon enough to help secure 3 spots

You are being quite rude about Lilah and Lewis, which I think is unfair. They are world class skaters who add an entertaining factor to the top flight. Yes, their skating skills are not the best. However, they engage the audience in a unique way.

but at the same time, I like Emilea and Vadym's skating better so I am not unhappy about the result

Aww, what a sweet interaction between G/P and Z/K on the podium! Kolesnik was very complimentary and praiseworthy toward Gilles and Poirier and how successful they have been in their career without the political support of being an IAM team in an interview released earlier this season.
