Senior FD

Thanks again, amateur, for that costume description. :agree: It was a great description--I could picture it easily. For some reason, I was imagining them wearing something minimalist and edgy, and this sounds completely different. Can't wait to see it for myself! Bummer that it was such a rough skate for them, by all description.

I'm blanking right now on whether 94 is a good score, but the content is certainly there anyway, despite major difficulty

Virtue/Moir's FD personal best score from 2008 Worlds is 105.28 and for them to have a Nationals score (where their scores would normally be inflated) of 94.68, it is likely a let-down for them, but they must remember this is the 1st event of the season for them and they still have 4CC and Worlds to build up. Just FYI, the top dance teams in the World are expected to break 100 in the FD scoring. It's to be expected that V/M are rusty given what they've been through so far this season. Good luck Tessa and Scott . . . now onto some healthy and steady training and hard work to get ready for the final 2 events of the season. Congrats on your 2nd National title!

I think they changed the ice dance scoring rules again this year. None of the teams are getting over 100 this season. No one seems to be getting Level 4 step sequences anymore either. D/S's FD from GPF was 95.75.

Oh I agree, and they certainly didn't deserve more, and I'm sure they knnow that and are cool with that... I was more trying to speculate on whether marks were much inflated given this is nationals

You cannot compare their score tonight to anything they got in previous seasons. The scores for Free Dances this season have been down because there are fewer required elements.

Generally, 94 would be a very high score for the top teams. I don't want to say this is the highest of the season (and, of course, this is Nationals so there's a "lift" in the score), but it's up there.

Delobel/Schoenfelder received over 95 points for their FD at the GPF. Considering the fact that National's scoring is always inflated, V/M have a long way to go.

I'm pretty sure the scoring changed over the summer though...didn't an element get dropped from the FD? I think scores in the 90s are very good. Definetly not up to the high standards V/M have set for themselves but hopefully they get in some quality training time so they can get the full potential out of the programs!

My apologies . . . shows how little I know of the changes to ice dancing this season. It also shows what having no skating on television in the United States is doing to us fans. :( By the time Worlds rolls around, I should have a better grasp on things. Thank goodness, I get the Oxygen channel.

I'd deduct at least 10 points on every team on the Nats. scores due to the "inflation"

If we compare these top three Canadians with US, what will the 4CC podium looks like?;)

Like someone already said, Delobel&Schoenfelder got a 95.75 for a strong FD in front of a stricter international panel against stiffer competition at the GPF.

Considering with Nationals inflation V&M might have broken 100 if they skated well, 94 is a definitely a low score in that sense. They might not have broken 90 if they performed this way at the GPF.

It'll be interesting to see if B&A make it to 4CC for a head to head match.

well at this point, i'd say V/M in 3rd behind D/W and B/A, and not even necessarily close... their OD is maybe competitive already, but not this FD yet.... but V/M will undoubtedly skate better by 4CC.

What about C/P, W/P when compare with S/B (most likely US 3rd rank), assuming that these are teams to go to 4CC? The top three are fairly obvious, among B/A, D/W, V/M (not in particular order).

No need to apologize! I just remember reading about the change - I think it was on these boards actually :) It is unfortunate about the lack of coverage in the States...I'm very thankful to have CBC!

I actually was unimpressed with V/M - looked like they were just throwing extreme difficulty in, shaky with it, and not focusing on the other aspects of the program. Like that lift where she was standing on him - yes difficulty, balancing with no hands, but her foot was moving back and forth on his leg like crazy.

I agree, that lift was rather scary... looks risky. I was sorta wondering if she was gyrating for effect, or because of shaky balance.

I don't know if V&M have to worry about D&W overall just yet. Even for the first time out V&M's OD looked good, and I doubt that V&M have regressed in the CD for D&W to be competetive within more than a few points. I'm sure the FD will get better with time.

Even B&A have some issues as well. Their OD hasn't exactly been bowling over the judges either, and I expect the see major changes to that program by the next time we see them compete.

With all the injuries/illnesses it's still too up in the air for me to rank the teams. I was about to say it was looking better and better for Del/Schoe but then remembered that even they are a question mark now with her shoulder injury.

Thanks. If it wasn't for me already being hooked on skating, I likely would have no reason to be interested in figure skating at all. There's no way the USA is going to attract newcomers to the sport with the way things are currently being handled. The constant negativity from our old tv commentating team ensured the general USA public that the COP is too difficult to comprehend and that the sport has lost its spark. :banging:

Anyway, I don't mean to change the subject of this thread.

Congrats to all the dance medalists of Canada!! Good luck for the rest of the season!
