Ice Dancing - Free Dance (Mon. Feb 22 - 16:45)

Anyone else completely love how they play pieces of the skaters music when introduced for the medals?

They are, I truly believe the controversy surronding them helped get them on the podium

You're kidding right? If anything, it would have made sure they didn't get on the podium because no-one wants to see their sport being tarred with the brush of controversy, specially when it concerns allegations of insensitivity towards an ethnic minority.

Ice dancing has always been political to a degree but this result is ok. V&M skated beautifully and so did D&W. I felt B&A should have been third but there was no way they were going to keep the Russians off the podium with a clean skate because of all the recent flak.

Why not? Clearly they did not have a clean skate if they were slow, and left out some of their lifts. The Russians were left off the podium in the pairs, why not in the dance as well. The Sovet regime is dead and done, the Russians can no longer be considered the standard of excellance or the the one to beat. The last few years have been a cycle of a cheap knock off of a cheap knock off of something that one point was truly beautiful. D/S had no place on that podium, especially after their unacceptable original dance, and here is the truly SICK part, they thought it was all a gag. They loved all of the publicity and camera attention they got for being ignorant. They should have been banned from the games based on racist content. Giving them a medal spits in the face of everything the olympics stand for.

YEEEEEAAAAAAAH!!!! My favorite ice dancing team of the last decade or so wins Olympic gold. I was verklempt after Virtue/Davis' free dance. I bet I wasn't the only one. Such soulful beauty with such explosive athleticism mixed in. It's like nothing I've seen before. And I just love this pic from their performance:

Look at the passion and emotion in their faces, it's pure artistry on ice.

Happy for V/M and D/W but very disappointed for B/A. I had a feeling they just weren't going to put 2 US pairs on the podium. This has been a disappointing Olympics to me from a judging/scoring standpoint.

Americans don't engage in that kind of nonsense, nor should we. We leave that to the rest of the world. That fiasco with S&P was a disaster all around when they handed out two sets of gold medals.

Nice typo, lol.

Aw, Tessa and Scott can't stop grinning. So cute. Oksana got caught with a bit of a grumpy look there.

Charlie has a cute smile.

I have to wonder if they have taken acting classes - they are amazing performers that completely make you believe what they're selling. With their looks they could definitely work in the industry once they retire I bet...

No, I'm not. For example, the controversy surronding Adam Lambert after his AMA performance helped him in sales and scored some big interviews (Oprah). Controversery isn't always a bad thing

Some are saying V&M will retire now that they won gold? What on earth for? I also agree with everyone who's saying Dom&Sha were overmarked but guys, come on--did anyone really expect anything else after the scores they got in the OD? B&A never stood a chance for a medal. Don't know if deserves an investigation or USFSA protests, but to the naked eye it certainly seemed like the Russians were much slower and less polished than Tanith and Ben. A friend of mine who knows a lot more about technical skating elements than I is always saying Belbin's skating is poor compared to Ben, and the Russians deserve to be were they are in the pecking order. Thoughts from anyone else here?

It is a nice touch.

I agree with those who want Belbin/Agosto to continue a while longer. Perhaps they could work towards winning a world championships, at least. I too hope they will great programs that will showcase them as best possible. That's what they need to get to the very top, IMO.

I'd like for them and Davis/White to go to Worlds and battle it out for the gold.

Virtue & Moir were so ellegant and captivating. They are the kings of suggary sappy routines, but hey that's their style and they do it flawlessly. The TES between them and DW should be close but VM were so superior on the PCS, and Dance is the only category where PCS should weight more than the technical side. And people dont forget the competition has THREE events.. All around VM were rock solid in all CD, OD and FD. Deserving champions.

1, 2 are really well place but the judging beyond gold and silver was underwhelming to say the least. B&A deserved bronze, D&S werent as bad as people love to cllaim but they should be 5th behing the Italians. And dont get me started with the second tier teams.. lots of injustices with their scores.

It is true that Tanith is not the equal to Ben as a skater. But together they can be fantastic.

I think their feelings were genuine. They have never skated this number this way all season. They never hit that emotion. They saved it for tonight.
