Ice Dancing - Free Dance (Mon. Feb 22 - 16:45)

I agree with you Cloudkicker09. I am sad that B&A did not get the recognition they deserved. But it is true that Tanith isn't the Tanith of a few years ago. Plus I think their music was a bad pick. Nevertheless, I would have placed then third. But there was just no way they were going to keep the Russians off the podium after the Plushenko situation. Just wasn't going to happen and no one wanted a repeat of the earlier situation with S&P.

Belbin/Agosto got the shaft of the year on that one!!!...They should have at least scored 103 on that one, and D/S should have scored 96, B/A were so much faster, cleaner, their lifts and steps more difficult, and they didnt use the aid of a rope for their lifts, and they actually had a theme, and presented that theme well, unlike the slow sloppy schlock that Domnina/Shabalin just threw out there....dont blame Maxim's knees, that can affect the twizzles, but not the suckiness of the rest of the program!!!!!

They won't, they should but the won't. I think they have to much respect for Canada and wouldn't want to tarnish their Olympics any more then what they already are

But they wouldn't be challenging the 1st place result, they would be challenging the 3rd place result.

Robin Cousins is drinking the koolaid. V&M were wonderful. They were not T&D, who will forever be in a class by themselves.

And he didn't say they WERE Torvill and Dean, he said their performance tonight was the Canadian version of T&D's Bolero Olympic skate.

It was the Brit. Eurosport guys (Nicky Slater & Simon) who said they brought the sport to a new level since T&D during the top 5 wrap up after the FD, premature, yes, and far-fetched, but Davis& White for ME skated better in the early season, at Nationals.

I agree, that definitely would have had 6.0s across the board if we were under that system. Flawless.

LOL! Me so silly.

I've seen all the competitive performances of Virtue/Moir's free dance, but I've never seen them, Virtue in particular, looking so radiant and joyful while doing this incredibly difficult program. This is the happiest I've seen her as the goose:

ITA,

They resonated something totally spiritual tonight. I don't know how some skaters do and others can't. I believe it's their confidence. They were saying it all week. They were prepared and they felt confident. Now I don't know how any skater feels and believes their confidence to the core like them at their first olympics like they did tonight. You can't manufacture that. Wow.

I wonder when they will interview Maria Zoueva tonight. This is a results of decades of hard work on her part. Best team result since Katia and Sergei. For any G & G fans out there, do you notice that a part of V/M's OD music was from G & G short at 94 Olympics and the long program is the music Katia skated to, the first time she came back skating in her husband's memory? Katia wrote that Maria was saving it for something really special. This is the second time Maria has used this music.

I can't help but wonder how Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon would have done had they not had to withdraw in the 2006 games. I always loved them. I think they might have fit right up there as well.

Scott told Tessa they were in second (apparently she doesn't pay too much attention to the scores, according to him - and she believed him. So, could I love this pair more?)

What an amazing competition tonight. I completely agree that B/A were shafted, but what can you do? All that aside, both V/M and D/W were AMAZING! I was watching with a group of non-figure skating fans, and they were completely blown away by the two pairs. But V/M were the unanimous favorites among the group, everyone just felt their performance. To me, everything about that performance was perfect! What a wonderful wonderful Olympic moment for them and for Canada.

Aussie commentators said that Marina had saved that music for 15 years, waiting for the right time.

Though I'm sure they were feeling some pressure, Tessa and Scott just looked so completely relaxed during all 3 skates, like they had nothing to lose and not a care in the world. I think that, to me, helped make the difference. Merlie looked a bit nervous to me. Voir just looked like they skated for each other, not for a medal, not for the judges, just for each other.

Am I the only person in the world who likes DomShab's free dance costumes? Particularly his; fantastic and "almost medieval".

This might be the first time I didn't like D/W's POTO free... I've been really enjoying it all season, but it didn't set me on fire tonight, I can't figure out why! V/M skated their hearts out, a true and lovely olympic moment. I am sad for B/A who have accomplished so much and were left off the podium (though I think most of us were calling it, alas.) Pleased to see DomShabs hanging onto that bronze spot by tooth and nail. I may be the only one but I like it choreographically and mood wise, technical execution aside.

well said.

While I think V&M were exceptional, I do not think the music was the best. It wasn't horrible, just a little too subtle/flat. I did not have the same feeling when they finished as I did when Shen and Zhao (pairs) won in Washington D.C. at Worlds and I knew that I had seen greatness not to be equaled for a very long time. The audience did too and stood and applauded for a for what seemed like forever. I didn't get that feeling this time.

Cadive, I will say again that they were not Torville and Dean which means they were not the Canadian equivalent of Torville and Dean either. We have yet to see their equal. Torville and Dean had a maturity these teams do not have. So we are really comparing apples and oranges.

Congratulations to all the medalists!

Tessa & Scott: impressive!
Meryl & Charlie: I hope they'll stick around for another 4 years, and have a fd next season that equals their Samson and Delilah.

DomShab and Belvis tied?? no way, the twizzles alone for DomShabs were pretty weak. DelSchoes were shafted here too. Nice to see a reocvery from CronePoirier, they deserved it.
