South Korean federation's complaint to the ISU about judging

Yawn. ANOTHER thread for Yunafans to whinge, moan, complain, and throw insults ("Putinkova"? Really?) at Adelina.

Your skater is handling this with a thousand times more class and grace than you are, people.

There are millions of people who are genuinely upset about the flagrant abuses of the "judging system," above and beyond the results of this particular competition. Yes, there are rabid fans of both skaters, but for a large number of those people it is the judging system that is broken beyond repair and needs more than some cosmetic changes. Comments about anyone's "class and grace" are simply insults, and do more to fan the flames than any vocal opposition to the judging system.

You say this like 6.0, where judges were clearly identifiable by name and image, has never delivered a corrupt, questionable or shady judging call.

Of course 6.0 judges delivered some shady scores. That 2002 pairs fiasco was 6.0 and look what happened, they got busted and the situation was handled. With this crap they have now people are left guess and speculate who did what and corruption is allowed to be done in the shadows. Getting rid of the anonymous judging is a start.

Skaters and scoring aside, I think this is true. The Americans got their way with Hughes and Lysacek as well as Russia did with Sotnikova and their pairs (and I'm not saying they committed a fraud per se, I'm just saying they put everything else in place to favor their skaters) so I don't understand where this all whinning is coming from as it's clearly nothing new.

Politicking is as much as a part of figure skating as jumps and spins. Sadly so? Maybe, but it's the way it's always been.

It still should not be condoned as seems to be implied by your comment. It is unfortunate that it may be true that the situation can never change with the present structure of the ISU and the relationships it has with the Federations. That being the case though, any sport where the winner is not based on merit does not belong in the Olympics unless it does change so that it is.

I was so proud of Virtue and Moir when the fix was in and even though it was evident the fans especially with USA being ten times bigger than Canada would side with Davis and White. They skated their hearts out and they deserved OGM - maybe not during the season but when it came to the olympics they earned it. Still they were class. If we are going to laud Yuna we should V and M. It seemed kind of foregone D and W were going to get it no matter what as well as Hanyu and V and T but the second place winers all gave good reasons to take the gold. Life isn't fair always.

Not exactly the same, though. Yes, it was a foregone conclusion that Davis and White would win dance and Volosozhar and Trankov would win pairs. After the Grand Prix Hanyu was probably favored to beat Chan.

I can't say, though, that it was a foregone conclusion that Sotnikova would win ladies. (Lipnitskia, maybe.)

After Sochi, the ISU will never dare to eliminate anonymous judging. We will have to pry anonymous judging from Mr. Cinquanta's cold, dead hand.

Can you imagine the uproar and outrage that would erupt if we could ever prove all the stuff that now we can only suspect?

You're right for most people figure skating only matters every 4 years now. That's one reason why I do not care about their opinion tbh.
Anyway, we'll see till then. If Korea doesn't have another good skater they will probably be too busy with speed skating to care about figure skating.

Yes they do, and editorial columns in proper newspapers are so labeled, so that simpletons don't take them for news. It's really easy. All you do put a little orange tab on top of the page that says "OPINION."

But i can't help but agree with this:

What I will never forget is the courage that Kim displayed that night in Sochi. She no doubt sensed that the fix was in before she took the ice, but she never even blinked as she went through her routine knowing the majority of the crowd was rooting against her.

Makes two of us. I would have added Mao's triumph there, too.

P.S. Adelina is so not happening in 2018. Not at this rate without reforms and amends. The moment she lands on Korean territory she will be followed by paparazzis 24/7 just as Yuna is. (but in totally different manners) Think of Tonya Harding before Lillehammer x 100. Oh, and Yuna will be there greeting everyone. Crooked judges aren't the only ones who can ruin athletes' chances. Which is why Yuna/Mao's accomplishment in Sochi is all the more respectable.
