Wow!!!

I thought Stephane Lambiel was choreographing a SP for Daisuke? What happened to that?

It's a pity, because I was waiting with bated breath for a program featuring a magical forest creature fighting butterflies and monsters, especially when said collaboration was described with superlatives such as a "blend of freedom and control, of spontaneity and smoothness"

I'm pretty sure I posted an article here that said that he would have 2 SPs that would be used interchangeably depending on the competition, one by Lambiel. Not sure whether there's been a change of plans or whether they just haven't made it public yet.

Auntie Joyce announced that Meryl &Charlie will b skating to Amelie for the FD. I love love love that soundtrack, and I feel a surprising choice due to it's gentleness. I will be interesting to compare with Tanith and ben's program to the same music while they worked under Zueva and Shpilband.

Sorry, but could you giva a link please?

Ah, I see...has any other skater done this before (i.e. have 2 programs, depending on the competition)?

I hope Daisuke keeps Stephane's Amelie EX, though! I admit, it was slightly disconcerting seeing Daisuke bop his head around and move like Stephane...but the overall effect was interesting, not unpleasant at all.

I thought the same as you. But lately Shae-Lynn Bourne has been doing a lot of very good programs as well, therefore i am not taking this as a letdown.
On another note, trhe japanese reporter mentioned the music cuts, as mambo, smaba, jazz, while I recognized the notes of "History of Love". one of the most well known rhumba's. Where did they make a mistake? Is that according to them "Jazz" music?

From FSU:

“Kiira Korpi´s new programs are SP Somewhere over the rainbow, a piano version, choreo by Shae-Lynn Bourne. Opens with 3t-3t, which seems to be secure now.

LP Evita, choreo by David Wilson.
There was a test skate yesterday [last week]. Kiira is in very good shape.”

Isn't she a bit old for Over the Rainbow?

I think Over the Rainbow can be treated many different ways. There was a wonderful jazz vocal version with, of all things, a ukulele accompaniment that was incredibly poignant. A family I know used that version to accompany a memorial video for the husband/father, who died in his late forties. I can't tell you how effective it was--it still breaks me up every time I watch the video. So there's no upper age limit on the song if the arrangement is the right one. And of course Judy Garland herself continued to sing the song for the rest of her life; in her thirties and forties, her more mature voice gave it an entirely different spin. I'll be interested to hear the piano arrangement Korpi uses.

I agree! I haven't heard Kiira's version but I believe it could be something jazz or not too "simple". Besides I think there are not music which isn't suitable for certain age. If it were so, nobody under 25 couldn't have Carmen or Tosca or La Boheme or Turandot... you know what I mean. And I think Over the rainbow has very beautiful words also for an adult.

I'm hoping it's this version by Keith Jarrett off of La Scala. While I've never thought of it as a figure skating piece, because it repeats itself (thematically and harmonically at least) and is 5+ minutes long, I think the right cut could make it build more quickly and make for a great program.
