I think Kwan also... there is another skater, maybe Debbi Thomas I am not sure, but I remember that piece of music being unlucky for some reason

There has not been, AFAIK, an official announcement for D&W, so Scheherazade is a rumor.

While it may or may not have been unlucky for Blumberg & Siebert, it was certainly lucky for Evan Lysacek.

Ahh.. yes forgot evan used that also... isn't it bad idea for their music choice to be leaked so early? a competitor like the Italian team could pick it. They picked Carmen last year. The year before I think they picked a piece of music D/W was going to use.

It was an Italian website that posted the info, FWIW.

But it may not be the correct info at all.

Unlucky, how?

Yuna skated to it in 2009-2010 and won her first World title.
Well, it was actually 2008-2009 and, just like Evan's, her program was very successful in all the big competitions (she won 4CC and Worlds that year, and placed 2nd at GPF)... Both Miki and Mao had Sheherazade SPs that were never "unlucky"! And then there are a couple of unlucy Sheherazades: B/S who lost an Olympic medal in 1984 because of that music (the Italian judge thought that it wasn't appropriated), and Michelle with her 2002 3F, that's all. But I agree with you: if D/W skate to Sheherazade, it can be a great program!
(And, don't forget Midori Ito's wonderful program!)

Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin also won a World title with Scheherazade (ignore the accident earlier in the season :) )

Ah the dangers of using just letters for skaters names who is B/S in 1984? Not B/S of 2002? Not B/S of 2013 and simply not BS I assume. :)

Oh blumberg and siebert - I think we need to be careful on this site - not everyone will know all the initials bad enough last names.

Love Maia & Alex's FD....not a fan of the SD though. Buble?? Really??:sarcasm:

I think Michael Bublé actually works pretty well. Given their past struggles with SDs, I think something straight forward like this makes sense. Dancing with the Stars and other shows has used quite a few Buble songs, like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_qnBPxOHFY

They don't need to experiment in the SD. They need to get music that get them the necessary levels and to show their best sides of themselves.

Sure, its doable, but that doesn't mean it was a good choice. Its way too similar in scope/style to their FD. IMO they put too many eggs in the same basket-- they could have just as easily avoided "experiment"ing in the SD with something lyrical and classical which would have been a nice contrast. And a SD ought to be more than just showing the necessary levels-- when I think of D/W I think the best side of themselves was shown through their OD/SDs, and that's what set them apart.

I think our opinions differ here. I think that Buble will work pretty well. It's lighthearted music that I think will highlight their quiet blades and great timing quite nicely. I guess we'll see.

Yes, it would be awesome if they had a ground-breaking dance AND the levels (which D/W's Giselle was), however, I think you are money ahead, to do something within in your comfort zone in the SD, so you can get the necessary levels and focus on performing it well.

Also, why you you think the SD and FD are similar?

There's only so much you can choose to do in the SD with the Finnstep the required pattern. More lyrical and classical is going to be much harder to do for all teams with this dance.

How is Buble similar to Michael Jackson? Aside from the fact that they're both played on pop radio.

I think Mrs. P makes a good point about the Shibs' SD strategy. They've struggled a LOT with the SD the last 2 years. I think going with a straightforward, but still enjoyable, music selection and improving their execution in that segment is a good strategy. Then, they can experiment and have fun with the Jackson FD!

Uhh, the fact that they ARE both pop is a pretty big similarity. When was the last time this happened in ice dance? I also don't see how going with Buble makes it easier. Its not like they've done something similar before..

Here are their past SD's, not sure at all where the "Buble will be more straightforward" is coming from at all...in my opinion, this is the OPPOSITE of staying within your comfort zone. Maybe they've done poorly in the SD the past two seasons because 1) they didn't choose their SD program well 2) they are FD skaters 3) their strength isn't in Latin dancing.

I get that Michael Jackson and Michael Buble are both pop hitmakers, but they are not the same genre of music. That's like saying Frank Sinatra was the same genre of music as Marvin Gaye because they both were played on the radio. Buble is more of standards/jazz guy and Michael Jackson is more R&B/pop. I don't really agree they're the same.

For the record, the Shibs HAVE done their exhibition to Buble, so I can see how they are already comfortable with his music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmSkRs1yfvc
