To be honest, I think people, including his fans, were worried about adding the 4Lo because Shoma himself has said the success rate was low. Landing it here, though, will give him more confidence in that jump.

Honestly I think it was a concentration thing, with the Axels. He did such a gorgeous Axel in the Short, it is one of his stronger jumps.

Yes I am...... Tell Hanyu to do a program like that!!!! Hanyu don't even deserve those PCS he gets! Over inflated as always.
Nathan's free program is not horrible, but if it makes you feel better to criticize his program, go ahead. If you want to see a horrible program, why not go and watch Boyang Jin's again.
What Nathan is doing is remarkable. He was not at his absolute best, but he's human and can not be perfect all the time. He certainly overall performed better than Yuzu at this competition. Nathan did not have serious technical miscues in either program, while Yuzu did. What Nathan has just accomplished at U.S. Nationals and at 4CCs tonight is absolutely amazing, remarkable and groundbreaking. Even me, as someone who feels quads are over-emphasized and over-hyped can recognize the historic nature of what Nathan is accomplishing. Nathan is laying on the quads because that's what ISU wants and will over-reward. To achieve that at the rate Nathan is doing can lead to otherwise emptier programs choreographically, but that's nothing new. While at this point, Yuzu Hanyu has more impressive choreo and maturity than Nathan, Yuzu also has some weaknesses that are never acknowledged by the judges.
Remember that Nathan is only 17 years old, and if he remains healthy, the sky is the limit in terms of his overall growth as a skater. Nathan already possesses great musicality, fierce competitiveness, amazing jumping ability, and the capacity to grow as an artist. You don't have to like his program or his skating. There's a lot I don't like that I see in this sport but I recognize I have no control over what happens in the sport, what the judges decide and the direction the sport takes. I admire Nathan's talent and his cool, calm, collected personality. He's the real deal.

I dont think that Nathan Chen should score higher than Jin PCS wise...
He's so much better than Jin.

OK, that was pretty amazing all around. Some thoughts:
I thought all the medalists looked a bit slow at the end of their programs and less connected to music than I have seen from all of them previously. So, I wonder if it was nerves, weeklong stress, or fatigue. Maybe a combination of all.
Good on Shoma for putting out an excellent program. Good on Yuzu for facing that pressure without folding. Extra good on Nathan for standing up to the pressure after Yuzu. Some mistakes from all, but overall it was fantastic.
I wonder if Yuzu's last 4T was a planned 5th Quad or if he put that out when he popped the Salchow. Impressive, either way.
While the Nathan and Yuzu factions are fighting it out, it is entirely possible that Shoma will sneak through and take World's. I am more impressed every time I see him. Tonight was the first time I've seen his 4L that it didn't look cheated on the landing.
Oh yeah, didn't Nathan go Zayak on the 2T's? Or do I not understand the rule?

Boyang Jin is my favorite, so it was a bit disappointing to see him make so many mistakes. I hope he can go clean at Worlds!

He still fell twice. Doing harder quads saps your stamina and makes it harder to land later jumps. Subtract one quad and he would've joined the 300 club.
And I'm not a detractor. I'm a pragmatist who seldom takes risk. I was horrified over everyone's programs upgrades. I'm happy they coped and got them out of the way before worlds. So I respect all the young guys for challenging themselves.
