2017 GP Skate Canada Ladies FS

"FRANK CARROLLED!?!?" LOL! I'm sorry but you got me ****** up! I almost woke my whole family up laughing!!!

I wonder if I will ever get past Frank dumping Gracie the way that he did. I understand why he wanted to leave, but the way he did it makes me angry.

If you want Marin to win or be in the podium, then she has to skate a clean short and long. NO EXCUSE! Don't blame other people or luck, or this and that.

Gee what has Ladies's skating devolved into these days?
No one picks interesting music, no one can hold things together for two programs. The current top skater who can skate clean has extremely laboured jumps and a never-fully-extended free leg.
I admire you people who still follow Ladies' singles faithfully. I haven't been able to finish anyone's programs this season.

To those asking about the conversation between Anna and her coach. First of all it appears they have a very honest but sadly not that encouraging relationship (but hey, maybe she needs the tough love, who knows). From what I recall, the coach told Anna that maybe she should practice more run-throughs of the entire program, as she only started doing them a week ago and not often enough. It seems the coach thinks Anna's not putting in enough effort. She also mentioned that Anna should gather more speed as she skates because she jumps with no speed, on the spot, and just generally seems dead on the ice. And yeah, she said that if Anna continues like that, she won't go with her. She probably said some other stuff but I can't recall.

My opinion: that's really harsh, but I can't say that it's untrue. I don't necessarily think Anna needs to change coaches, she probably has other issues mentally that she needs to take her of, maybe see a phychologist or something, because she really needs to sort some things out (her confidence mainly). The coach could've been more... I dunno, nice? :frown: But it's their relationship.

yes, pretty much.

nothing tsareva said was unkind. her tone was friendly and she didn't sound accusatory. but it was a no frills kind of a conversation. i think people here have been a bit quick to blame her for being awful, tbh. she sounded very normal to me. but then again, i don't believe in mollycoddling and i don't think anna p. is blameless here so... i do think a person is responsible for pulling out of a competition if they are seriously injured. anna p. is a grown-up and these decisions are up to her.

edit: anna p. also said about her own successful jumps не владею но вытаскиваю - ' haven't mastered [the jumps] but do save [them]'
that's a pretty alarming assessment of her situation, as if it wasn't bad enough already...

Urmanov was great for Yulia- she speaks very warmly of him. I also think he'd be good for Anna.

I agree about Urmanov. I am happy to hear of Yulia commentating. She will always hold a special place for me. Glad to see she has found a new place in skating.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Marin deserves MORE!

Not surprised about Kaetlyn's scores. I feel like they're trying to give Zhenya a rival for the OG. She is the rightful winner here. The same thing happens with Zhenya since her senior debut. Rightful winner but so overscored. And since Kaetlyn is a major contender, I expected her scores to skyrocket as well. At least she didn't break 140. I don't have the energy to complain about the scoring anymore. Judges and tech panels really suck it out of you.

Ashley's medal is pure luck. For me, Marin deserves that spot.

Totally agree. A part of me hates that Osmond is getting 136 with a fall, an almost fall and a pop with a bad program, but part of me REALLY whishes that things get more competitive.

Junior ladies' skating is superior to senior ladies' skating these days, unfortunately. Men's skating also has devolved into a jumpfest. It's not a great state for the sport for sure.

More and more it looks like Mirai might go to the Olympics. I hope the men's program this evening isn't as weird as this one was.

This might be jumping the gun but does Ashley's bronze pretty much already earn her spot on the Olympic team? Or too soon to really say that?

I don't understand the people who think Ashley was overscored here. She won by PCS over the others. When her underrotations get ignored or she is given generous technical scores I feel that way as well. But she is one of the best performers out there and it reflects to her scores even when other parts of her skating are somewhat lacking. That is how the scoring works and how it should be in my opinion.

Besides some people are comparing her with herself in Boston. She won the World Silver there, of course today's performence is not as good as that. But it's not like she has lost all her skating skills and performance ability and started from the bottom. She deserves her PCS.

That being said, I am still shocked that she got herself to the podium. She is a total survivor and I admire her for that.

She can't rely on performing this poorly and always getting propped up, of course. She has nothing to fall back on if they in the end do decide to judge her fairly.

She even was complaining about her scores, reportedly.

Skate Canada's always had the highest inflation and it's very tough for some to come to terms with that.

Do you have some facts from reliable sources that Ashley is relying on being propped up? Sorry but this thread is filled with off the cuff nasty comments that assume things about skaters, with no sources or backup.

Sure she probably should keep her mouth shut and not complain but that's her business.

I agree. If what Ashley is doing is so easy, then why aren't others doing it too? Apparently it is not so easy to do what she does to get the pcs.

Alaine Chartrand got:

5 times <
once e
two out of three spins did not count

WoW:unsure:

Unfortunately the jump downgrades are no surprise. When Alaine gets nervous she starts two-footing and underrotating her jumps. It's always been her Achilles heal.

Don't know about the spins, but to hazard a guess — incomplete rotation?

I'm just here to say: Kaetlyn Osmond won but Maria Sotskova is the winner for me.

This season she is one of my favourite: those jumps got higher and consistent, she added more expression and i just love her delicate programs.

Skated beautifully both the SP and LP, but her score is somehow lower than her SB (at Finlandia where scores were also very low) by 12 points.

To be honest i think in Canada they wouldn't have given her the PB even with two clean 3A in this free skate, so great job securing that silver medal, i wish her all the best.

I see many people angry with Osmond's score but i've to say i was expecting something like this: usually messy free skate with one fall and a couple of stumbles but enough to win (even the free skate which is very controversial)

Pogorilaya didn't recover completely from the injury, though i wasn't expecting a meltdown here: it's a shame and i hope she is ok now but at the same time i was rooting for Maria between the two russians here.
