2017 GP Skate Canada Ladies FS

None of these programs are going to be setting viewing records on youtube. What a brutal afternoon. I hope they do an aura cleansing of the arena as well as an ice resurfacing before the Dance event starts.:gaah:
All those feathers stripes and flowers should change the feeling in the air really quick. [emoji23]

Aie, aie, aie - Anna! Great the audience stood to give her support. Yes, wild competition. Kaetlyn appeared very nervous at the start so I'm not surprised she stumbled, popped a triple and fell on the double axel. But she can only improve. Still, her spins, flow, speed, quality of her jumps were so impressive. Maria was beautiful too - so lyrical. Scratching my head about the American girls - Honda should have been ahead of them! Did she have a low BV?

Anna was so consistent a season ago. What happened? :(

Masha was beautiful as always. And Marin is such a dream. <3 <3

Kaetlyn was blatantly overscored and it's not cute.

No way in my opinion. Not after last season's meltdown at worlds despite the season being promising up to that point. i don't think they can afford to risk it when they have access to a very steady Sotskova that's almost guaranteed to score 200 something points and at least get a decent placement.

She can, if she performs well at some point.
My logic here is simple: Russia got Evgenia and Alina who are real medal Oly contenders so far. Now, everybody else is not: Sotskova, Radionova, Tuktamysheva are just obviously not medal contenders here. So it does not really matter who to send, they will end up somewhere below top 5. Anna's advantage last year was that yeah, she had meltdowns, but when she skated clean, she was a podium contender. So she was a good bet actually, since yeah, she could bomb, but its not like the other ladies would do MUCH better than that, they still would be somewhere below top 5. With Anna, there was a chance she would not meltdown and then place really high.

Now, just saying - if she skates clean on her second GP, and then skates clean at Nationals, they will send her and it will be it.

Canadian skater does well: OVERSCORED!
Canadian skater doesn't do wel: OVERSCORED!

Both situations are completely possible. A program can be "perfect" but overscored and it can be a mess and beat a perfect program by an amazing skater by 10 points. 11 actually, Kaetlyn's totally messy (and extremely boring) program beat Marin's free 136 to 125. That's the very definition of criminal overscoring.

A round of applause for Yukiko Okabe, Fernand Fedronic, and Scott Davis for being the true MVPs of this event and getting everyone into the Halloween spirit by giving carrots out for free to the skaters.

Happy for Ashley and Courtney (I would be totally fine with Courtney sneaking in the Olympics).

Devastated for Anna.

I'm not so sure about "sneaking in."

The way the US ladies are performing in early season, I think Hicks can kick the door off the hinges.

Yes, she had some mistakes, but I honestly thought she was better than Ashley here, and not by a little.

And, after seeing the first two GP's, if I were Gracie Gold, I'd be breaking the speed limit to get to practice.

Ashley's PCS in relation to hers was a joke, for sure. Hicks also had a bit too low PCS IMO.

For this competition, while Osmond was wildly outscored, the biggest injustice is Ashley getting a medal.

For gosh sakes folks. It's not Ashleys problem that other skaters did so poorly!!

To be fair after that highway robbery they did in 2013 it would be expected of them to put in another disaster judging performance.

If Ashley thinks she's getting near the podium at the Olympics skating like this she's delusional but i doubt Raf is happy to be honest.

And I don't think she does think this is going to cut it for the Olympics. But its not like Ashley bombed. Her skate was solid. In fact, more than solid in the context of this competition and quite frankly, more than on par with a lot of what we've seen from contenders thus far.

That was certainly supportive but, again, it seemed like they only started supporting Pogo once she started self-destructing.. Or at least that's how it was coming across on the screen, it might be different in person.

What are you talking about...were you there? She got a Standing O., from an empathetic crowd, who admired her courage and knew that she is much better than what she put out today. Even Medv. did not get an ovation last week. Skaters love coming to SC because of the way they are treated by our citizens and the audience. Why be so disrespectful.

Yeah well, only "fair" complaint would be that there is not enough crowd on the event. But then i suppose Regina is not a large city, so we cannot compare it with events hosted in 5-10mi population capitals.

for pointers.. Regina is tiny.... and it's the biggest city within a few hours drive 216,528 is the population... Saskatoon is slightly larger with about 250000 people but it's a few hours by car.... it is pretty much farmland all around, and the population is made up of students and government workers.... it is also a province that is into curling and speed skating... figure skating is not as popular there.

I am not surprised by the small crowd.

Next year, it Skate Canada will be in Laval, just a small bridge across from Montreal AND right on the subway line... so 30 minutes by train from Downtown montreal...

It should be much more crowded... even if most of the Canadian stars retire after the games.

Sorry but no. Osmond should not have had 7 point lead after last night. And she should not have had the TES she got today. I agree she should have won overall but tonight the ones who did the least bad were Honda and Sostkova.

What i mean is that she should be first overall. So it doesnt really matter where she got her lead.
Although i agree she should have been called (not sure, but some of her jumps looked kinda short to me, and considering the tech savages on this event, i´m rather surprised they didnt give her carrots).
