2017 GP Skate Canada Ladies SP

Agreed. Felt so slow. Last year she felt so smooth and natural during her skate, especially in the short. Now, it's like seeing Anna from her bombing years, except, she's not making errors, but is exceptionally timid. :/

Come on, people were either expecting or worried that Anna might bomb and now there is all this nickpicking on her clean skate? This is just the season GP debut and she did great. I hope Anna will build her confidence with no physical and mental concerns over the season.

It's not nitpicking. It's just there doesn't seem to be the level of excitement in her that was there last season. Not a criticism. Just something that was hard to miss. More notable when her current SP is something I would expect her to thrive on.

Hugo (about 8th place for Laurine): "Out of 12? It's not really fair. She did great."

Me: "But she made a kind of big mistake on her combination"

Hugo: "Oh but come on, nobody saw"

Highlights for me were Kaetlyn, Anna, Courtney and Rika.

Maria S. has good technique but for me she has limited range and imo skates juniorish.
She is young but talented so I am sure she will develop nicely.

Anna has silenced her demons today. It was so nice to see her big smile in the K&C.

Seriously. The girl has been having back problems, didn't perform at the test skate or any senior B (just showed her SP at a Russia Cup), and is still sitting in 2nd place. I don't what people want from her. Even some of her so-called fans don't seem to believe in her and come off as way more neurotic than she ever has. Seems like a lot of projection going on.

She always has been in conversation. Said that she does not deserve 38PCS for this programme.

Let's get real, nor does Medvedeva.

If you gave her home bonuses, you should give others too. The difference is this is a far better program and better interpretation.

If Canada was playing this Rostelecom style she would get 38 for components

We have to discuss this because Kaetlyn has still the combo and the solo jump in the first half plus her edge on the lutz is still a question mark, so technically the program is below Evgenia's SP.

Are you pretending that her scores should be closer to medvedeva? Based on what exactly?

Evgenia wasn't overscored at the Rostelecom Cup, she had already received marks around the 80s last season.

This all inquisition from the canadians about the judging at the Rostelecom cup must go.

Then if we look at the scores i find Sotskova's GOEs ridiculously low: her 3ltz-3t was even better than Anna Pogo but she received only +1 and a +2, and even the rest of the elements +1 or even 0s.

Big shout out to Alison Ryan (judge no.6 AUS) who gave only 6s to Maria and 7s to Pogo but he was there with all the 9s for Kaetlyn and all +2 and +3, just to give her that 10 points margin between her and the third. No bias at all!

I think she did great considering her injuries, but I"m hoping she'll progress. She is definitely capable of much more!

BTW, I am pleasantly surprised to see Courtney Hicks in 4th and leading all the US Ladies. I feel like the USFSA gave her a raw deal and I'm glad to see her making the most of this opportunity.
I couldn't be happier for Courtney and I hope she makes the most of the free skate as well.

Kaetlyn was underscored imo. I was thinking 79 for her SP. She should be in the conversation for Gold in Korea.
It would be nice to have some competition in the Ladies for the top spot at the Olympics.

There might be. Things always seem to "shift" at the Olympics. Judges love wielding the power they hold to manufacture surprises.

The controversy surrounding Medvedeva is that she is overscored her entire career, not just Rostelecom.

As a huge Anna fan, I definitely want to see more fire out of this program in the future but for where she is now, I'll take it. That smile in the K&C tells me she got a confidence boost from this performance, which she really needed after last season's ending and coming off an injury. I laud her for putting out a fully clean skate while she's clearly still in pain (check those spins, she nixed the beillmann since the Yoshar-Ola competition that she pulled out of which says to me she's still hurting) and wish her all the best in the free!
