Don't know if this will be helpful to anyone here but here is a combined schedule of the Senior local and ISU events I put together. I hate looking at bad tables, so this was easier to pass along to some folks I know who are tagging along with me on Friday and Saturday.

(Related, times have been rounded here and there to accommodate my, uh, less time-aware friends.)

I've never heard of Donovan, but I respect your opinion. Can you provide any background or detail on him?

Every skater is his own person... that said, does his technical or performance qualities remind you of anyone?

I don't know a lot about him, I don't speak Spanish, so that is a bit of a barrier. He has been on the JGP the last couple of years. He did get noticed by Buzzfeed last year

But that was more about responding well to tolls than his skating. Still he sounds like a nice young man, and i don't think both his skates would get that many views if his skating did not impress as well. He has the top most watched skate on the junior grand prix channel and the 4th most watch skate.

I also do recall reading that his hometown voted to give him some funding and support his skating. I like seeing/hearing stuff like that. Mexico is not known for its ice rinks, so i like seeing his hometown support a sport like this and a skater like this.

As for who he reminds me of... I am not one who always see similarities. Mostly I see a skater who just really looks like him loves to be on the ice performing. I mean he is often smiling on the approach to his jumps even. He also can move and has a full range of movement especially in this hips. A lot of guys are kinda stiff, this kid is not and that is an aspect I enjoy seeing. He looks like he loves skating as much as Sean Rabbitt if you really want a comparison, but the joy is where the similarities end. Donovan just looks like his is dancing on the ice having a great time and I love seeing that.

Here is his best SP from last season https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHyfZOr0qaE to give you an idea (also his outfit totally looks like the glowing cylon spine from Battlestar Galactic) It is one i still re watch. He does not have a 3A or a triple triple yet... so he has some work to do before entering the big leagues. But he is young and from small federation that I am not sure has the greatest of access to ice. I think he can still learn and improve, but he likely does need to spend some time training with a coach outside of Mexico at this point. I am hoping he gets the support he needs to make it to 2022.

Thanks for the head's up, Stitch, God willing and the creek don't rise, I will be there and I will be watching all the men. I may even get there early enough to see the four "club" comp entries. So if Donovan's there, I'll let you know what he does.:agree:

Please do. I think this is his senior debut. Even if he can't make it to the Olympics this year, I'd love to see him at least get to go to 4CC and maybe worlds. Plus I do think you will find him worth watching while you are there.

I watched the videos you posted. What fun! Now that's a young man with personality!

I don't keep up with the junior circuit, so I depend on the kindness of GSer's who point out something really nice in juniors.

I also love that he's from a non-traditional power. I have a soft spot for those skaters.

I still haven't decided if I'm going to pay up the money. There's one part of me that thinks there's no way I should give in to such blatant extortion...

This looks like a great competition and if it were actually held closer to Philly, I'd take the train down from NY. On the map, the venue is actually closer to Wilmington, DE!

Hopefully some of those attending will fancam and we won't have to pay the streaming fees.

It's not just the map; the venue *is* closer to Delaware. (Indeed, the beautiful metropolis [not] of Aston is in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, where I went to HS and my folks lived for 40 years. Delco, that is, not Aston) The closest local train stop would probably be Marcus Hook or Chester (for which you need to connect from Amtrak), both of which make Aston look like paradise on earth. And you'll still not there.

Unfortunately, without a car, you can't get there from here. Luckily for me, it's a straight shot down the Northeast Extension to I-95. I'll see if my EZ Pass still works

Yup, without a car, it doesn't make sense for me. For a hot second, I thought about taking the train to Wilmington and then take a cab to Aston. But the train is surprisingly expensive round-trip. Besides I'm going to Skate America and Nationals this year, so I'll get to see these skaters later in the season

@theoreticalgirl, am I reading this right that you need to switch to a bus in Chester? I lived three miles from Chester (in fact, right off Chester Pike) and I'm not familiar with that station, but I wouldn't look forward to waiting there. I hope that you have a car for your journeys:agree:

Correct, but it is a short bus ride. I live in the city proper and went 15 years without owning a car, so I'm well-versed in getting around via mass transit. In the past I've transferred at Chester TC for various things and have never experienced any problems here. YMMV. Just putting it out here as an option for those who cannot afford to throw down $$$ on an Amtrak ride.

Per Google directions, it apparently is possible to get from 30th St. Station to the hotel via SEPTA -- train to Marcus Hook Station, walk four minutes to Tenth St./Market St. to get on #119 bus, etc.

- During the afternoon (i.e., daylight), would the areas around Marcus Hook Station and around Tenth St./Market St. be reasonably safe? Or should I avoid?
- And do you happen to know whether the area around Glen Mills would be reasonably safe during daylight?​

- Do you know whether IceWorks has public WiFi?
- And do you know whether Uber is commonly used in the area?

- Low-priority question, but I came across the 2015 PSIC draw schedule, and the Senior draws back then were Thursday at 10 am.

I have stayed with my wife at a couple of locations in Glen Mills in order to attend Liberty/PSC, including the Staybridge Suites. There are a lot of hotels there, with a lot of shopping nearby, and some professional buildings. The Staybridge Suites is also near a residential area, and it has always seemed very safe to us. It is a bit of a drive to the rink from there; I don't know anything about the public transportation options.

Oh, I think your info is great. As a younger child and an adult I lived in the city until I married and headed off to the wilds of Bethlehem, so I know about the many charms of SEPTA. In fact, my grandfather was one of the head union honchos for what was then PTC, so I have a very soft spot for the whole system And I sure didn't own a car living at 46th & Springfield

But enough about my favorite subject, me : Personally, if there's enough interest I think Red Arrow, as we called the Suburban System back in the day, should run a direct bus to IceWorks:agree: A gal can dream....

Is anyone going to the the international portion and watching the senior ladies events? I was checking out the livestreams for the rink and they seem awfully pricey ($25 for 24hr) and I was wondering if anyone would be taking videos of the skaters
