2017 Worlds Men's FS

What a final! Few thoughts...congratulation to Hanyu- what a skate! Also Shoma- I particularly admire his artistry paired with his tremendous athleticism. Boyang - fabulous jumps. I just feel that his component scores are over-rewarded. There is a 30 point difference in the technical score between Boyang and Jason Brown, and rightfully so. But in the component score Brown beats Jin by 3 points. Really! Maybe the artistic difference isn't 30 but 3 is ridiculous. What an effort by Patrick Chan - still my favorite. Javi worked until the last minute to try and earn the points but it just wasn't there today. Nathan must be devastated but it was obviously was too much on a 17 year old to do 6 quads and perform on the world stage. But huge congrats to Nathan and Jason for earning 3 spots for next year.

I think I'm OK with the PCS scoring for the most part. Boyang had a fantastic program and Jason while super gorgeous wasn't perfect -- the margin would have likely been much higher had he hit the quad. And with Nathan getting 84, I don't think it would have been good for Boyang to get that or less.

I agree with others that Patrick's PCS was way to low though.

It's a shame and the worst kind of luck. It's happened to all the best skaters. I know it's not always really possible to have a back up pair but I wish it were. I think Karen Chen brought 3 pairs to Worlds per an article I read a few days ago! I'm sad for Nathan but very happy indeed that thanks to him and Jason they both skated well enough to secure 3 spots for the U.S. next year! Barring injury I think 2 of those spots should for sure go to them!

The problem with Nathan's boots is that they broke so quickly. They were hard to skate in, but having a backup pair that WAS broken in (but not broken down) would probably be hard too. If the ones he wore today had been unskateable and he'd have to wear a brand new pair that wasn't broken in, the skate might have been ever rougher.

Looking at the protocols... some judges gave Boyang 9's for SS and TR :scratch2: I am not hating him but that is just not correct, right?

I'm a dead banana run over by the happiness bus who now bleeds glitter.

Happy for my little twink Shoma winning silver and his papa winning gold. Their wins have consoled my Spanish concubine's loss that landed him in 4th place.

bleeding glitter sounds very much like a rumble broke out at the dance club.
I was sad for Javi too. I love Javi. Shoma is my favourite even though my money is always on Hanyu.

This competition. Sooooo great. The top 7 guys here are all special and to be cherished, each in their own unique ways.

the reality is that if both guys didn't get to 13, then why bring a 3rd one...

The reality is the system of qualification in figure skating is flat-out stupid.

But thankfully at the moment it's not like the Canadian guys need 3 spots. Kevin Reynolds already got to go to the Olympics and his skating hasn't improved. Still underrotating the quads, can't do a proper lutz, just a lack of any good jump technique to begin with, and no great skating skills or presentation either. Nicolas Nadeau is the most talented guy in Canada by far after Patrick Chan, hopefully he can pull it all together next season.

I.... I can't.... I just came back from lunch and...

This is like my dream podium...

I....

I have no words.

Jesus...

I need some time to process.

Dat Czech anthem tho is a masterpiece. Def in my top 10; reminiscent of the Dutch anthem in ways.

That's great! I also love out anthem. It's unlike other anthems, it's so soft and calm, but it's amazing to hear after victories in sports.

Btw, you are Norwegian? Heh, I love Norwegian ski jumpers and biathletes, I even learned a little bit of Norwegian.

Congrats to Yuzuru, Shomo, and Boyang!! Well deserved medals although my sentimental heart was hoping Javi and Patrick could each pull off one more Worlds medal each for the 'old' guys! My heart was breaking all over the place! I LOVE each and every guy in the final flight as well as Jason in the penultimate group! ALL the skaters did their respective countries proud! Good fight!

My baby boy Nathan, you are only 17 and good things are to come! :luv17: :clapper: He fought hard out there! I wonder if his boots were an issue? He posted a pic of his skates tied up with hockey laces to make them tighter per his coach's recommendation. But no excuses! He was a little bit off his game but hung in there for 6th and 3 spots at next year's Games for the U.S.!

Top 6 for his rookie Worlds debut and securing 3 spots at next year's Olympics for the U.S. along with Jason is all kinds of awesomeness!! And Jason! Top 7 against an arsenal of quads!! It speaks to his tremendous skating skills and superb artistry that he scored so well and in spite of a fall!

I just want to give all the skaters a big bear hug! <3

Sexy Javi couldn't hang on to his World title but he's got an 'it' factor that no one else has and hopefully he'll come back even stronger for the Olympic season!

Yuzuru was just sublime! Well deserved score and gold medal!

 this whole post! :agree:

for those wondering about Canada's 3 spots... it's sad... but it's no big deal. You won't hear me cry over this all year... the reality is that if both guys didn't get to 13, then why bring a 3rd one... I stand by what I believe here.

So that there are more people to blame when they don't maintain the third spot the year after.

I am so happy Boyang managed to remain on the podium. I loved his program, he didn't put a foot wrong...my tired eyes, I don't know, but I'd swap Boyang and Shoma. Boyang PCS were harshly low, for a well acted, clean program, in big contrast to Shoma, who didn't have the best program, if my memory does not fail me. I love both boys. They are highly entertaining.
Congratulation to Yuzuru for the clean program. I can't say I liked his program, but boy he can skate...
CBS cracked maybe angry for the result. I am sad the podium is not larger as I love Javi and he is such a good skater

Looking at the protocols... some judges gave Boyang 9's for SS and TR :scratch2: I am not hating him but that is just not correct, right?

Are you really try to understand PCS? No point of doing this, judges are doing what they want with them. I love Boyang but he got these for his great skate, just like Nathan does these days.

Really? I was wondering what he was doing straight after the 4Lz fall--as if he was testing if the blade or boot would hold. Ugh, boot problems suck.

They do! Man I hate boot problems with a passion! This is the second year in a row that Jackson boots failed at world for a US competitor! Don't be surprised if Nathan switches over the summer like Mirai did.

Congratulations yuzu!! What a comeback, you are so amazing, such a fighter, I knew you would do your best for the free, I can't be more happy for you now:hap10:

I totally forgot about checking the PCS. Too low for Patrick, indeed, but I'm ok with the rest. Chen and Jin should stay at the moment at least 8-9 points behind Yuzu, Javi, Patrick and Shoma.
Oh, and I forgot to say: Jin's 4Lz :eekn:
