Great job from Rika Hongo!! She's got a bit lost in the ladies' shuffle in Japan, but she's always been a favorite and a good showman. Like to see the different style than is typical for the Japanese ladies, too.

Strong 3T+3T to open, good landing on both. Nice flying spin on the music, average speed. Ouch, a fall on the 3F. Poor positions on the layback, okay speed. Strong 2A. Nice illusions in the combo spin, might get a V if they are being stringent. Nice energy through the footwork but not that difficult with many of the turns (Level 2).

An energetic program like this is perfect for Rika to mask some of her issues with line and speed. I like the different techno music too, really wakes you up!

Replay: Looks like she got full rotation, a < on the 3F if they are being really strict.

Well Hongo was a little better than last month. But I still feel it's unfortunate to skate to all those crazy alarm bells when you are not in the best shape of your career and a little slow across the ice. [emoji26] Still a fun program, but nothing out there is looking easy for her.

I have always had a soft spot for the Japanese, and have tended to support them in everything.

My goodness! I know it wasn't her best skate ever, but I was not expecting the score to be quite that low!
