2018 Junior World Championships Ladies FS

While I think some of it is schadenfreude I also scale of reference is a factor. Human brains like to put things in order and compare them. Trusova's score is such a statistical outlier for ladies skating that it makes it hard to mentally process and compare. So comparing it to men, is a way to put it in order and compare it on a scale we at least can process somewhat. It is a way to help our brains make sense of the numbers.

You’re right. But I still find it annoying. The message shouldn’t be that Jason or Adam or any the junior men should be ashamed that a girl has more technical ability but simply that Alexandria is amaze balls.

And as I said it also undermines her. 92 TES is amazing for ANY skater regardless if it’s a man or woman.

20 points back on TES! What a blow out by Trusova.

And for everyone saying that Alena's a better overall skater-- well, yes, but Trusova's a baby. She's got plenty of time to get more musical and expressive. In fact, she'd be very smart to make that her priority for the next couple seasons rather than trying to add more quads or backload. If puberty makes those quads hard to hold on to, then she'll need every PCS point she can rustle up to keep her lead. But with one or two quads and some better PCS-- how could anyone stop her!

Loved Kostornaia! such grace, such beauty!

Trusova win is deserved and she wrote history, but my heart was stolen by Alena .

Great podium, great competition.

Well it was a battle between Russia, Japan and Korea with US as referee, as usual.

  WOOOOW Trusova, she is one fierce little girl. That TES OMG! 2 Quads and three 3-3 combinations, can't believe it. O_O

I'd still rather watch Kostornaia all day, btw

I will watch both of them. But Alena more often, that's true. But I'm really curious how they develop themselves, if Sasha gets more artistry and Alena more difficult elements.

At least Alena got the higher pcs of the night. But a 1 pt margin is dumb. Trusova was basically a jump practice. This is why skaters dont bother to work on SS and artistry because the judges dont give out PCS appropriately.

Very few people posted during Alena's skate. That says a lot.

How many of these girls in the top 10 have to stay juniors next season?

I think both Alena and Sasha are too young for seniors next year. Rika and Eunsoo are both moving up.

Medevedeva and Zagitova must be the most happy to not see Trusova senior yet and even next season.

Certainly a fine array of talented juniors. But let's not get ahead of ourselves with who will be challenging for the podium in 2022. These young ladies have the challenge of puberty and many other unknowns such as current talents who may sustain and grow. Throw in unexpected injuries and other bad luck and the future is foggy. But I must admit that the Russian schools are producing some awesome yearlings!

Judges saw quads, it was enough for them to give her candies.
