2018 Olympic Figure Skating Free Dance

Donohue must be so heartbroken after a slight stumble on the twizzle and the technical fall on the choreo twizzle. That was all it took. I'm hoping that they make a comeback at Worlds with a medal.

Yeah, they look devastated alright [emoji23]

Given the judging here, it was not an unreasonable thing to say. And they did lose the free skate to P/C. But then P/C's SDs have always been their achilles heel. And like I also said, I was so so so happy to be wrong.

Nobody in the world can do what Gabriella and Guillaume can do. Nobody can deliver the same kind of nuanced poetic movement and emotion on ice. To me, they are one of a kind treasures who will always be unbeatable, and I'm so proud of how hard they fought. Gabriella is a warrior for coming back so strong tonight. May their star rise ever higher! Congratulations on a hard-won silver medal!

Nobody in the world can do what Scott and Tessa can do either. They were perfect and all their dances are new challenges. So happy they won! I'm amazed how they've continued to improve each year.

V/M thoroughly deserve their win but I wonder if the audience reaction wasn't so big would the judges have gone with them. And tbh V/M have a bigger fan base and a more devoted one as they come from a bigger figure skating country than P/C so they're bound to get a bigger cheer. You could hear the difference in support when they were introduced.

I wonder if Scott would say something about them winning despite Marie-France Dubreuil not being in their corner about the Moulin Rouge program.

Congratulations to the Virtue/Moir, the most decorated ice dance team of all time. I honestly had no dog in this fight, but V/M laid it down and gave an Olympic Gold Medal worthy performance. Seems like yesterday when I saw their Seasons performance at 2014 Sochi. Marina really did them a diservice to choreograph such a program ...

As for P/C, they are still young and I expect them to win the OGM in Bejiing barring any injury.

One thing that I noticed was as soon as people heard ROOOOOOOXXXXANNNE it was like a quintuple jump had just been completed

That was sensational! The entire event captured everything I watch ice dance for.

Papadakis/Cizeron won the free, which was right in the sense that they had the stronger program artistically, but I felt they and Virtue/Moir were dead event in technical and performance quality. When you take into account that Virtue/Moir were at the absolute top of their game in both programs, they earned the gold.

SO THRILLED FOR MAIA AND ALEX! Never give up, trust your instincts, lean into what makes you "you". I am so proud of them. They earned the bronze :)

Feeling awful for Hubbell/Donohue and Chock/Bates. I fully expect both teams to rebound at Worlds.

Sad for the result, but the one good thing to come out of it is how idiotic it makes all the "fix is in" theories look like.

I may not agree with the exact TES/PCS the dance teams earned (a bit too much distance between top 2 and 'everyone else'), but I do feel the top 5 were placed correctly, at least. Feel just awful about Chock/Bates' fall! anyone know why they got 2 deductions, and what the other teams who got a deduction did wrong? Time penalties on lifts, or what?

It's okay, Gabriella and Guillaume.
You stand on a podium your compatriots Nathalie and Fabian should have stood on four years ago.
You bring honor to Isabelle and Olivier's legacy.
You are the legacy of Marina and Gwendal.

You are the future of ice dance.

Yes they are. I just hope that future includes more Pink Flood and Woodkid and less Beethoven. They're wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too talented and special to lock themselves into a narrow niche.

V/M compilation tribute on CBC’s main channel... the floodgates have opened again. :sad21:

Same... I didn't realize how emotionally I'd be affected by their performance and their win. I honestly thought it was impossible after the French skated but they never gave up and transcended their best. And it's a testament to their perseverance and I'm just so happy for them and Canada.

For P/C the only problem for the next four years is getting bored dominating all the other teams because i don't see anyone challenging them.
