I just feel so grateful to have witnessed a phenomenal feast of ice dance in this Olympics. I honestly enjoyed every single performance and was so touched by every couple's emotional reaction afterwards and the camaraderie between them. I think having attended 3 competitions this season (Skate Canada, Skate America and U.S Nationals) and watched 13/20 couples in FD live has really made me appreciate ice dance more because it's so spectacular to watch these amazing skaters glide so fast in the most aesthetic way right in front of you. Congratulations to everyone for the amazing performances and the incredible emotions, strength and artistry that you bring to the audience! :thank:

Actually that is precisely how people work: if I don’t like them, I hope they exit the stage. Not you hope. I do.

That's... lovely. And that's not "how people work". If I don't like someone- I deal with it. There are many skaters I don't enjoy who I know others love. I don't want them to quit.

How about if you don't like them don't watch? I'm not going to engage this anymore. Let's just say I'm glad that opinion doesn't dictate skating.

Don"t get over S/H loosing gold yet and now P/C :(
Gaby is very brave and could be proud of herself!

And...Shibs on the podium!!! Yeeesss to this :yahoo:

As someone from the dance (not ice dance) world, I get that Virtue/Moir are sentimental favorites to what seems a vast number of fans, but... it is basically incomprehensible to me that they could ever defeat a team with the performance qualities of Papadakis/Cizeron. There is something wrong with the scoring system when what appears to me to be a vast difference artistically and performance wise is recognized by only 1/2 a point in the PCS score. Basically VM won the gold medal only because PC got a level 3 in one of their step sequences in the SD. Given the problem with the costume it is hardly surprising. VM was very lucky to win.

So proud of VM to give such a proud and perfect program after a desperate score judges giving to PC. In the end, the judges are still trying to pull down their PCS but they simply cannot pull down enough to pull down them to silver. Congrats to VM!
I think I could never understand PC fans' thought that their dance is more noble than others. I know they are elegant, but I don't understand why story tellers are cheaper in your noble eyes.
We will never deny the elegance of classic, but it never means that latin, tango, rock, hip hop, movie soundtrack are cheaper (Maybe that's what papadakis thought, but she should be told that that was wrong.)
The classic shines the history forever. But latin, tango, rock, hip hop, or any kind of music, will forever represent an important part of culture also. We should never forget what these kind of music bring to our world.
You could have your preference, and so do I. But it's never a standard.
You think as a dancer, you think PC is better even VM have a vast number of fans. But I think one of the most important thing that a dancer should do is to let the audience feel. We are all humans, no one in a higher level.

You may think VM is lucky to win. But don't forget the unlucky part is made up by unfair judging between them and PC. When everyone including all VM fans got used to it, it's VM who fight and finally win. They are lucky that yesterday PC made mistakes, but judges live VM no room to win. But they simply skate a perfect performance to switch the impossible to possible. That's how a legend is meant to write.

I am happy for 1st and 2nd, although I favored Beethoven (yesterday cost them), but I completely agree with the lady on the russian stream someone provided - she didn’t even remember Shibs, they are automatic technicians with something very saccharine about their skating.

I hope they retire. I really hoped Madison would get 3rd, but i think they skated it better at Nationals (withour counting the mustake). Maybe they were nervous.

They were definitely nervous. I do think the Shibs deserved it tonight but I agree about H/D in general. I think they're a fantastic team and I'm so excited to see them develop the momentum they have been gaining over the next quad. USA #1 all the way!!

I say new rivalry between H/D and P/C from here. These Gadbois rivalries really sell. Marie-France sells. It just seems like a logical next step.

I have to say that Piper and Paul absolutely knocked that one out of the park!!!!
How pity they switched to that program just before Nationals, because man - it sure could gain them way more universal momentum happening. I think that the program was greatly character-driven, with nice balanced between slow and energetic sequences. As usually with them, love the musicality of their movement and great phrasing of it expressed by choreography. I mean, they served the attitude, but it was sublimeskating, with this aura of Old era Bond glamour and something tense, sensual added to the picture.

The opening lift really set the tone for the performance, and their step sequences were the best from last year's SC FD tango for me: sharp, well-rounded, polished, with quality and attention to the detail. But those cantilevers into the lift were total highlight - the ease of Paul's control of his position was insanely, Piper looked amazing, it was an athletic lift, but was so tastefully done, with elegance and flow... And I love that yet again they were able to fit into the image desired to certain extent, but still staying themselves in it; the program for me mixed in a quite balanced way the edge with intricacy, connection going between them. Piper was totally a Bond girl - I almost fainted after seeing that dress, so rare colour, but she looked extraordinary, splendid, rich and drawn all the spotlight from the arena. Paul was dashing as usual:luv17:

V/M being interviewed on CBC. TELL US THE TRUTH ABOUT THOSE BABIES! :laugh2:

what babies??? are they finally getting married? what are these two waiting for already? they are a real perplexing pair, but I love them!

they are the reason why I started watching ice dance. I am so happy for them they won their second gold medal. I hope someday to see the U.S produce a pair like V/M in the pairs discipline....

Agreed on all counts. I hope they stick around till 2022.

I bet Zach gets a really stern Marie-France lecture once they get back to Montreal. :con3:

Who is the other male coach that is always with Tessa and Scott? He sat with them in kiss and cry after SD, and was there for a group hug after FD. I haven't seen him before.

I don't know that the audience reaction was so much about pre-Games fan base or that Canada is a "bigger" figure skating nation than France. Virtue and Moir gained a huge profile by doing the team event here. I think it really turned around the season momentum for them. It certainly got a lot of new eyes one them. I think other skaters should take note about the fact that they team event can do this for them. And that's not a knock on P/C. Before this, I probably would have made the same choice they did. I couldn't help but wonder if the men's would have been different for Nathan Chen if he'd gone out there and done the long... Food for strategic thought for four years from now.

Fairly sure it's pre-Games fan base for V/M... I think V/M are Korea's favorite non-Korean pair/skaters. Thinking back, they debuted onto the senior scene the same year as Yuna so anyone invested enough in FS to come watch Olys must've watched V/M's own journey throughout the years as well. Can't beat the sentimental favorites. Plus they did Yuna's All That Skate so they are probably very well received in Korea.

Anywho, all in all, I've finally calmed down (my hands aren't shaking anymore ) and I'm 2 for 3 so far on my dream gold medalists... Pyeongchang 2018 is turning out to be a redemption for me after sad Sochi... only ladies left to go!

I just glanced at the protocols and have a question to ask you ladies/gents: Do P/C have superior skating skills than V/M? I am a bit confused at P/C beating V/M in that category for both the SD and FD.

I've seen several performances of V/M and I cannot understand why people rate them so much. I'm not a Dance fan much myself. Maybe I'm bias because the first dance program I saw was the P/C program in Boston but I find it just very odd. I would compare V/M to someone like Ashley Wagner beating Asada/Kim at their peak.

These Olympics amaze me more than anything before. All results makes me sooo happy:hap93:

So many GOATs here.

Aljona Savchenko, Yuzuru Hanyu and now Virtue/Moir.
