2018 Olympic Figure Skating Ladies FS

I feel bad for Evgenia. She will probably become one of the most decorated skaters not to win an Olympics gold medal. The judges could have given the 78 pcs or whatever to overtake Alina and considering how overscored she has been the last 2 yrs they could have easily done so but they dropped her at the most pivotal moment.

Zagitova and Medvedeva skated like bosses tonight, despite all the nerves, pressure, and expectations. would've been happier if Medvedeva won, but Zagitova did her thing.

Queen of the night for me was Kaetlyn Osmond though!! such a ferocious skate at the most important time!! congrats on a well deserved podium finish!! :)

So...I'm not a fan of either of them, but after Medvedeva's first two jumps I figured she'd get the silver. There was just the tiniest lack of confidence, little hesitations in the landings, etc. The pre-game Tanith analysis showed that Zagitova had a slight numerical edge over Medvedeva with all things being equal (best performances from both of them)- higher technical for Z and higher components for M resulting in a very, very slight edge for Z overall. The fact that Z was slightly ahead after the SP on top of all of this, why is everyone surprised?

Who can challenge Zag now? She's still young, has some really crazy PCS, crazy 2nd half tech with a super difficult combo. Even with Olympics inflation, she can do 230 in her sleep with any program keeping the same layout. She looks like a real threat to repeat in 2022, unless her body matures some more or barring injury.

Well there's some other Russian girls in Juniors at the moment who can do quads! If they can keep up with them, they'll explode onto the Senior circuit and then it will be crazy time!

If it was really "accurate" then Kaetlyn should be first. Everyone feels sympathetic for Med tonight but really Med shouldn't even be getting half of her GOEs she gets on her jumps (esp combos).

I truly felt Zhenya's performance tonight and I genuinely believe that Zhenya vs. Kaetlyn in PCS is a matter of opinion and can vary depending on performance. Though I would have given her the edge tonight, Zhenya's PCS should never have been inflated so far ahead of Kaetlyn over the past couple of seasons when Kaetlyn is clean. I see them as very much equals where PCS is concerned.

I also found Med's jumps much improved tonight. She was on fire! Both women had edge issues and Kaetlyn did have a little stepout. I can see it going either way really. I would have given the edge to Zhenya but it should have been very very close between the two of them with Alina out of the mix due to PCS. The same way skaters like Dabin Choi and Maria are out despite their clean performances.

They usually give it to the superior technical skater at the Olympics. This forum would've probably melted down, but they would've given a clean Nathan the OGM over a clean Hanyu[/B] or Javi imo (justified or not).

How is Nathan a superior technical skater than Hanyu?!! He may be able to perform ONE more type of quad but the GOEs on all of his elements aren't and should never be anywhere near Yuzuru's... don't even try it. Also, friendly reminder that Hanyu holds every WR and a clean Hanyu is definitely unbeatable

Uh... a lot of the girls in Juniors lol

I didn't think I'd be so depressed over Med losing but here we are. At least I have Savchenko/Massot, Virtue/Moir, and Yuzuru.... But yeah. What a depressing ending.

I feel the same way. 3 out of 4, but then we end the Olympics like this. :( Why did we have to end on the event that breaks my heart? :sad4:

Oh and I forgot Rika and her two triple axel programs...that could also be a threat!

Also they've got that -5 to +5 thing coming in so that might change things around a bit?

Kaetlyn got a 10.00 in performance. Yahoo!!! She had a vision and stuck to it and created a masterpiece. So much for her not being a True Swan. :dance3:

Okay, I get that Alina is just using the system to her advantage and there's nothing inherently immoral about that. Congratulations on her win.
But I don't know how you could look at this event and not see what a sad twist ladies' figure skating has taken. Both Alina and Evgenia have cluttered programs and less than perfect artistry, but Evgenia is clearly the more musical skater and she lost to Alina's program which honestly, is void of any artistic integrity.
Also, let's talk about how this isn't happening to the same absurdity in the other events. The podiums for the men, pairs, and ice dance were so well balanced: artistic and so exciting technically.

It is baffling to see Evgenia has far more artistry than Alina has. They are about the same. They came from a same tree; maximize the tech score and components will rise. Evgenia could have been more appealing to the fans, since she has two more senior seasons. And her projection in the LP can be seen more direct and on your face. Or it could be just the skating order.

evgenia’s lacking tech score couldn’t be saved by her better(?) artistry. And her tech score was super generous to Evgenia; no ! Call on her double footed lutz. And clunky flip toe combo. Not to mention Alina skated better SP.

Favoritism mars the sports.

I mean, Alexandra Trusova just skated a program where she had a 4S, fall on ur 4T, and 7 triples on the second half. So there are some girls.

With the state of the seniors right now though, Zagitova should go undefeated this and the upcoming season assuming she's clean. Because let's be real, while her PCS is sky high she still has lots of room to improve - And she's going to improve.

Winning Euros, winning Oly's (adding the most difficult combo to her lutz late in the program) is apparently still not enough to get the support of YOUR COACH!!!! That's the reason to root for Alina in the first place..
Russian commentators even didn't bother to praise Alina the way she deserved. During the award ceremony when Alina was on the ice they kept on talking how brilliant Med is.. Disgusting.
What a girl! What a talent! A deserved win despite all the odds!!!

I truly wish her no ill, but it will be a miracle if she doesn't get some kind of injury with the way she trains. Hopefully nothing career ending, but it's just bound to happen at some point. None of these athletes are superhuman.

I think the secret sauce is Eteri- she just HAD to have her golden moment. An Eteri girl will prolly win, plus with a quad or 3a to challenge Zag.
