2018 Olympic Figure Skating Mens SP

I'm starting to really like Boyang, He's improving

This SP is pretty well interpreted and performed

I might root for him to win Worlds :agree:

Have to admit, Boyang did really well. That step seq + arm movements was superb!

(but can;t I get my Shoma a medal? Pretty please? Im so sorry im so biased to baby Shoma :slink: )

Why do you like the movie? The main character, Jen the young girl, was sly and conniving. She stole the green sword, cheated and cut Michelle Yeoh, betrayed her illiterate teacher just for the fun of it.

 I hadn't thought about the plot in forever. You're right she was a piece of work! Fortunately: 1) Zhang Ziyi was captivating, so she kept you interested, and 2) There was so much more than plot to love about the movie. E.g. it is so visually stunning and the score

What the... why are people bashing? He's an Olympian and he gave it his best. That's all you can ask for. Those people bashing him, can they even skate? Because figure skating is one of the most difficult things any human being can do and he's at he Olympics.
On a completely different note, regarding MCM, apparently he had already retired recently, thinking there was absolutely no chance of making it to the Olympics. Plus, the guy was clean in Nebelhorn and failed to qualify. That has got to be discouraging. (Aside from the uphill battle in even being able to compete as a figure skater in a third world tropical country.) He was surprised when the Philippine federation called him to join the Olympics a few weeks ago. He was surprised that he landed his jumps today, lol. Anyway, there are stupid commenters, but stupidity is not uncommon these days. Gotta love the guy's spirit.

I'm in the Philippines, and I don't see bashers, even on Twitter. The sad part is the Winter Olympics is practically non-existent here. To bash would be to get recognition, which might not be such a bad thing. Most of the people who know he competed actually are happy for him anyway.
Hmm.. Funny tho. She did say something that she saw a few comments saying nasty stuff about MCM on Twitter. But oh well, for those who bash him, can't they just be happy for him since he's reppin' the Philippines for the 2nd time?

There are idiots everywhere. My country is no exception. It's not worth listening to trolls. There are those who speak up against these idiots in those threads too. Unfortunately, the anonymity afforded by the Internet gives people the courage to comment rude things, which most of them wouldn't have the guts to say in person.

CTHD is the best programme I have seen from Jin. The fact that he improved immensely in all non-jumping areas is also a big plus. I am liking him now.

Not really. The bashing was for Lee Chong Wei cos he failed in his 3rd attempt.
The mixed doubles silver was celebrated as it was unexpected, beating China enroute to finals which CPS/GLY hardly ever do. 1st ever silver for mixed category

Why would they bash Martinez? He is the last minute replacement, no time to prepare.
Malay language dailies can be quite the extreme ones, not the other languages. Regarding MCM, some just..... Are nasty *shrugs*

Watched the whole thing recorded. I must say there's merit to forwarding through the resurfacing etc. but avoiding ALL internet beforehand wasn't ideal

Sad for Denis Ten :(

First Group skater Vincent Zhou did that! I love that kid. He’s been my #OneToWatch for a while. But it was a bit annoying for me that he was so early because I kept wanting the skaters after him to not beat his score but also wanted them to do well/their best. Conflicted emotions aren’t for me!

Also really enjoyed Vasiljevs (but that axel :(), Hendrickx and Aliev.

I’m also so impressed by the skaters who choreograph their own programs. I know that isn’t considered in judging, but it’s taken into account in the ~judging of my heart.

The level of the last group took me out. Now that I have Eurosport player I usually switch between the languages I understand for my top performances but I haven’t watched anything back yet. Too overwhelming haha.

Nathan :( I did go into this preferring Yuzu and Javi, but I did NOT want it to happen like this.

Just got the news on the Aliev interview thread that Aliev will maintain his FS layout with two 4T and no 4Lz as the Europeans. With a program that has only two quads, it will be slimmer chance to be on the podium.

Actually makes sense for him to skate clean with easier layout than to do a harder layout and splatfest.
Even right now, he only has chance if he skates clean while some of the top guys splat (which is pretty possible). So i see why he is betting on a clean skate even with easier content, specially considering his stamina issues.

OK finally caught up on all this.

Still so happy for Brendan! They did an interview with him afterwards on Aussie TV and LOL his accent is all over the place, which happens to Aussies who go overseas! Fingers crossed for him tomorrow!

OMG Yuzuuuu! That was epic!!! What a full-on boss! (Also did anyone else notice the Pooh-valanche still visible in the background of the rink while the rest of the last group was skating? I lol'd)

Boyaaang! That Lutz is a thing of beauty and I would like to frame it and put it on my wall.

Javi was on fire! Oh I hope he can bring this to the FS tomorrow and medal!

Nathan...so horrible! I feel really, really awful for him! And after hearing how much he was hyped up...damnit media! Australia did that to our entire Olympic swim team in 2012 and it was an unmitigated disaster! Some of those swimmers never competed to their previous level again. I sincerely hope Nathan won't end up the same.

Deniss - so sad about the 3A, but those spins are the best evah!

Dima - I have to say Dima looks so different in his SP as compared to his FS. It's so weird - I keep thinking it's a different person! Anyway he sure skated his lights out! That opening lutz combo was the amaaazing! I'm especially impressed at how well he went since as someone pointed out you could see he was visibly shaking just before he started!

Adam - LOL I love that SP - makes me wanna dance! Keeping it real for the oldies! He's got some epic spins as well.

Misha Ge - Wonderful as always! Absolute artist on ice!

Mihkail - Shame about the lutz, but man does he jump high, he really should be able to make it, I guess it's the landing that does him in :( I like his skating skills though.

And lastly - Poor MCM! He obviously wasn't in Olympic shape! Still...the Beilmann! Where's the respect judges?!

I think it is rather unwise to retire and stop training when you are the first alternate since Nebelhorn 2017, if any one skater could not make it to the Olympics. We already knew from then that there is a high possibility IKEA country will not send Majorov if he does not achieved total 260. And Majorov was consistently 20 points off that target.

Not bad for a little kid at his first OGs. I thought Chen would be skating the way Aliev is skating now, but the boy can't seem to find his jumps?

Just had to say about Yuzu, bottle that and repeat that tonight and you may just become a double Olympic champion. It was a great competition!!!

Question to the really very old fans,

Was Brian Orser and Brian Boitano scrutinized as closely in proportionate to the media technology at those times in 1988, as compared to Nathan in 2018?

I think the tabloids just *assumed* that MCM retired. He NEVER announced that he intended to end his career.

Interesting question. It was such a different time. Media was all print and scheduled TV. None of this 24/7 stuff. I'm sure both Brians would say that it was intense but I have to believe that this era athletes have so much more to contend with. Yet Hanyu seems to handle it. Nathan needs to find the joy and peace that a skater like Adam Rippon has found. They may be very different people but the destination is the same.

Posting here too!

I wonder if Yuzu will go for the 4Lo and 5 quads program or not!

- He's got a 4 pt lead over Javi, who only has 3 quads in his program
- He's got a 7 pt lead over Shoma, who has 4 quads in his program
- He's got an 8 pt lead over Boyang, who has 4 quads in his program

The real quads threat was Nathan, but he's out of the race.
