I'm surprised that Sazuki / Kihara earned a Level 4 on their step sequence (!) since they had no holds, almost like a non-touching ice dancing midline step sequence. Very interesting.

It's not any different than normal. ISU rules are that 4 practice groups' worth of skaters/teams advance to the FS/FD so there's only one zamboni break. So that means 24 skaters in Men's/Ladies (4 groups of 6), 20 teams in Ice Dance (4 groups of 5) and 16 in Pairs (4 groups of 4)

They have to zamboni the ice every 2 groups. If all 22 pairs (6 practice groups, 3-3-4-4-4-4) were there, they'd need to have two ice resurfacings. That, alas, is not something that they're willing to do for scheduling purposes.

It's the Olympics in front of the home crowd. I'm sure she wanted to show off for them, even if it was unlikely they would make it to the free. Poor girl
