Very impressed with Shoma's ability to 'keep it together' after the shaky start. --It's what all the other front runners couldn't do.
The judging seemed quite lax in the technical and PCS, but that's the Olympics for you.

Maybe the ice is just bad.

But I think a big issue here is that Chen and Kolyada have *a lot* of hype and pressure from their home countries. Uno is a bit like the second child to Hanyu. Plus, Japan, being more figure skating obsessed in general, has given Uno an opportunity to be in the extreme spotlight for some time unlike Chen or Kolyada.

I'm taking the team event humorously because I've watched skating for a long time now, but I can see this event turning off olympics-only watchers. Which is ironic considering a large part of doing a team event was to increase interest.

oh absolutely. I told a few of my friends (definitely NOT ice skating fans) to tune in, and they thought the event was so depressing. Needless to say, they are unlikely to tune in for the rest of the team competition or the individual events.

So after the very first event, with Canada's man delivering an awful performance, they've already like won the Gold medal. The structure of this event is just ridiculous.

1) The other medal contenders were more awful than the awful Canadian.

2) Nobody has won the Gold Medal yet.

Therefore the conclusion about the event structure is moot.

Just watching Yuzu and Adelina's Sochi skates on Eurosport. I barely remembered Yuzu's, but I most certainly don't remember a single second of Adelina's skates. Did she really win this event... with those jumps? Wow...

editL okay, the jumps do get better... but hhhmmm, something just doesn't feel right. Maybe I'm just spoiled with the apparent ease of more recent Russian girls' jumps.
