2018 Olympic Figure Skating Team Event Day 1

Ah, isn't that wonderful?

You could see that Shoma was just as nervous as Nathan, Mikhail and Co. He was shaking at the end. But he handled it better. I'm glad he got that out of his way.

Yes, he was. He looked serious sleep deprived and nervous but he did handle it well. Certainly, not his best performance ever but it bodes well for the invidual event. I am really rooting for him.

oh my gosh , that Ashley commercial for Toyota! She's getting more press and airtime and sponsorships than Bradie, Karen and Mirai combined. And she's not even skating.
wow, this is really different than normal.

Stop this and once for ever! Look on your "badkness" instead. Enough is enough; all that dirty talk... it puts dirtiness on the one who speaks or rather displays ones inner disposition/dirty mind and heart. Give Wagner a peace; this thread is meant to be for Team event.

The judges are always very generous to Russian skaters too and the French couple. Mikhail got 42.61 in PCS for the disaster skate. Almost three points higher than Bychenko. The favorites regardless of country will get high PCS regardless of performance. The OAR team has only itself to blame for the position it is in.

Yes, but the Panel might have been a reason to skip it too, let's face it. If V/M had no CAN judge but a FRA one, it's tough.
But I agree for Mikhail he really had a terrible skate :(

Kolyada gave up a lot more points because he can't even skate in the free anymore. Top 5 advanced to the free and splits points 2/4/6/8/10, if I remember correctly.

Um, isn't the cut off for top 5 nations advancing made AFTER all SPs/SD are done? I think that Russia/OAR team will advance into free programs and their Man will have a chance to skate there

Pairs judges countries:

Ref: BEL
Techical panel: POL, GBR, USA

Judges: CAN, AUT, FIN, CZE, CHN, FRA, HUN, LAT, GER

The panel seems to be balanced. A Russian judge is missing.
The German judge (Treitz) and the Chinese (Feng) have supported their own competitors really strongly in the past.

It's top 5 after all short programs. I think. So if OAR is in top 5 after all short programs, he or some OAR athlete would skate the free.

Actually, the TOP 5 advance but the free is less important because the points are actually 6,7,8,9,10. So, a complete meltdown can, at the worst, get you 6 points.

The short program is far more important.

Such a disaster of an event and they've gone back from the awesome fancy score box + blank protocols so I couldn't tell if they've kept up the stricter levels for spins and stsq that they had at euros and 4CC. I'm guessing that the highish scores in spite of the numerous jumping errors means that they haven't kept it up though. What a shame. Also why no more fancy score :c

So low-key there's something very nice about not having to migrate to another thread :agree:

Yes. Top 5 countries/teams advance, not skaters.
