2018 Olympic Figure Skating Team Event Day 3

Well, I didn't expect to be able to catch the team event in full tonight because of my massive to-do list (and because of how much I procrastinated that to-do list by reading and commenting on GS today). BUT my chores are done, my exams studied for, my lessons for the week planned and I am cozy with a beer and dinner ready to watch some skating! May we have clean skates from all! :yahoo:

I do not know as much either but their twizzers seem really slow to me. It is just an element I thought the top pair would be amazing at with speed, unison.

Why does NBC say the skating starts at 4:00 and every stream I go to says it starts at 5:00? (PST)

Because they're trying to drive us MAD. They need to get their act together. Hopefully, they'll show all the skaters instead of switching to snowboarding like they did the other night.

Because the prime time NBC regular channel coverage starts at 7pm EST, but the skating is scheduled to start at 8pm EST.

I’m so nervous for Mirai! I want that Olympic moment for her so badly! I would love a bronze for Team USA but I’m less worried about the medals than I am about the moment. You can’t control the politics, so why worry? The payoff is the performance.

Carolina isn't skating the LP is she? I thought she skated the SP. Is she doing both?

She is doing both because we have a chance to get that bronze medal.

Although i've to say the idea to see 4 programs from Carolina in such a short time, doesn't excite me: she is not the queen of consistency and when it's not her day it's a bombfest so i hope she won't prepare the individual event being already tired.

I love, love, love, this comment!!

Yes. They already did that to national champions Hubbell/Donahue anyway with their decision.

I for one am satisfied with the USSA's choices. Your argument in ladies is that Bradie, though reliable, has a lower ceiling than Karen Chen. Maybe, but Bradie acquitted herself well in the SP and could easily have got third place with her performance. Now it's up to Mirai (although I might have switched around the short and long program).

As for the Shibs, I think they went with, better safe than sorry. Hubbell and Donohue have momentum, but the Shibs international scores make them the safer bet.

Mirai, you can do this! Adam, you can sell it to the judges and perform. Shib Sibs, stay on your feet and NAIL those twizzles!

ONE HOUR TO GO!

So, unless I'm doing my calculations wrong, this ought to be more or less decided by the end of the Men's event, right? If Kolyada places lower than first, OR Chan places higher than last, then Canada wins? My reasoning is as follows:

CAN: 45 + 6(Chan) + 6(Daleman) + 10(V/M) = 67
OAR: 39 + 10(Kolyada) + 10(Zagitova) + 8(B/S) = 67

B/S would have to overtake the Shibs to win gold with 68 points, since if it goes to a tie break, then Canada wins. Canada would win a tie break in that case, since OAR will have 10+3(Mens) and 10+10(Ladies), versus Canada's 10+10(ID) and 10+9(Pairs). Am I right about that tie break?

Of course, if Kolyada is first and Chan is last, then all the pressure gets shifted to Daleman to place above dead last... :eekn:. If Gabby choked and came dead last too, Canada can only win if B/S choke and slip to 4th. I can't handle this. I might die of stress.
