Well, Zagitova is a technical powerhouse. Unlike some other skaters from the Eteri camp, her jumps don't really look muscled. She has amazing height on her jumps and the arms above her head are actually pretty (not Maria S. limp arm) Now her PCS marks are a joke....but that is how the system seems to work. Wish that the judges were brave enought to vary the PCS marks the way they should. Then Zagitova could get the 7 in SS she deserves, 9 in transitions, 8/9 in PE, and 7's intrepretation of music and choreography like she deserves. But, judges tend to just be flat across the board in components.

I thought Patrick deserved the gold in 2014, but tonight I feel like he and the OAR should have been behind Adam
They could have led America by two or three points going into the dance. America finishing fourth in dance is not out of the realm of possibility.
Did anyone else hear the announcers in the arena present the "benchmark scores" for the ladies?
115-119 very good (?)
120-129 I forgot but it's higher than very good
130-144 outstanding
145+ top scores
I wonder who comes up with these "benchmark scores", because I want to ask the person why 115-119 is considered very good these days...
oh this sound a lot like school stuff. You know, that fancy name for a meh score just so you dont get upset.
I love Adam but where would his extra points come from? Unless the argument is that Patrick and Mikhail should have been scored lower? I think the judges gave Adam about as much PCS as they can. I love him and his spins are much improved but his skating skills, transitions, and composition of his programs (as in how much ice he covers, multi-directional skating, etc) are all below the other two. Yes, I preferred the overall performance but looking down at the blade there's not much I can complain about.

I think Kolyada's PCS should be lower in every mark than Adam other than SS. Additionally, Adam frequently gets higher PCS than this.

It's such a joke the way this event has been approached, except by Canada. They are the only country who put together their very best team to get the highest placement they can in every event and the Gold medal is just being HANDED to them! Patrick did NOT skate well in this competition and Osmond didn't deliver in the SP either, Canada very certainly could have been displaced for Gold if the other countries had actually been trying. We should have seen Nathan Chen, Shoma Uno, and Dmitri Aliev competing in the LP.
Rippon only placing 3rd, Bradie only placing 5th in the SP, and the Shibutanis very possibly placing below the Russians and/or the Italians in the Free Dance, will knock USA out of the medals if Carolina Kostner delivers in the LP. And the Italians already could have been ahead if they had used their stronger pair team in the SP!

No, I think they're talking all skater context, not medal contenders. A lot of skaters--including many at the OC--would be pretty happy with 115-119. For a good chunk of the field, that would be a massive new PB.
