2018 Olympic Figure Skating Team Event Day 3

I'm having too many GS crashes. I'll catch up with y'all on this thread a bit later. :)

Apparently, you get zero points if you quit in the middle of the routine. So if someone gets an artery sliced open, the partner better be prepared to tear off their uniform and apply a tourniquet until the music finishes.

Oooh I love Tessa's new dress! I think the color and style is much more flattering. Not sure if it needs the crystals but I'm not sad about the crystals either!

yeah, "beaten" by some one hundres of a point
you forget to mention that it's 3rd highest PCS ever achieved at the junior level. and alina also has a junior world record in PCS from JGPF
comparing junior level PCS to seniors is really smart btw

Yeah, usually skaters don't invite those comparisons by not keeping junior programs in their senior debuts ;)

My husband was bored during Alina’s first half.

There's no way to make two minutes of non-jumping interesting...but it's still the most optimal strategy.

I'd be very surprised if the ISU doesn't make big changes after this season finishes up.

Like her

It must be very demoralizing for skaters like Satoko and etc to sit with their fellow country mates and hear Alina's score ~158+ points. Do I agree with the score? Nah. I get where Ashley is coming from and changes should be made to avoid skaters "abusing" the jump bonuses. Nevertheless, a clean Alina is pretty much unbeatable when she is clean and rightfully so. Let's just hope that judges don't go overboard with her PCS score.

I enjoy Alina spins, footwork, and jumps. And let us be real. All the ladies would backload if they could land the jumps. Most put the hardest jump at beginning when they have most energy. I do think they should require one jump in the first half which would still be fair for the amazing jumpers because they could do the lowest value jump first. I do think Alina footwork was not as sharp as it was in the previous competition but this should help calm her the individual.

I have mixed feelings about Alina and her program. On one hand, she is brilliant with the structure of the program and using the scoring system against itself. On the other hand, I agree completely with what Ashley tweeted:

"Ok. I respect the competitive approach. But no cannot do this set up. It's not a program. She killed time in the beginning and then just jumped the second half. It's not a performance. I understand that this is what the system allows but it's not all figure skating is about"

Edited to add another tweet from Ashley:

"Points on points. It's the system and she's working it, you can't blame her it works"
Yes, to me it speaks to when rules/scoring needs to be reviewed and possibly re-balanced. It is in the skater's interest to make the most of the current rules/scoring to maximize their scores. But sometimes this can result in seemingly unbalanced programs. If I remember correctly, the 10 percent scoring bonus was meant to discourage front loading of high scoring program elements. But now seems to be raising questions for the incentive to backload program elements. Hopefully there is a way to even this out :).

Right... she was over marked then as well. Marin's SS and presentation is sooooooo much bette than hers than hundreds of a mark. There's simply no justification for the incredible rise in PCS over the 11 months. Skate cheap for points and imbalanced program should be penalised which she apparently never received. I bet if China did that, judges would have punished them.

Here we go... good luck Tessa and Scott. Although it should be a walk in the park for you with no pressure.

Ready for Canada's victory lap. I can at last relax and enjoy all the nations and all the skaters, now that my national pride anxiety is assuaged. Go everyone! Do a great job!
