2018 Olympic Figure Skating Team Event Day 3

Tanith Belbin White is certainly a huge fan of V/M. I have to say that I love her commentary. I left the Canadian commentary to watch US commentary. Tanith is spot on.

I really do have to say that I appreciate Tanith's unbiased and informative commentary. Though there is/was some slight beef between V/M and Davis/White, it hasnt diminished Tanith's love for the former team. If only she had the opportunity to cover the other disciplines ... But life is cruel and we are stuck with Tara and Johnny instead.

Finally got the forum to work! Mirai...she did that!!! What a moment!!!(only ruined by Tara’s shrill YESS pls God let someone upload it with Eurosport or Canadian commentary asap) now my only criticism is I was more emotion, more performing. I understand she had to focus really hard on the jumps but now that she knows she can do it in the individual events I want her to FEEL IT. Congrats to team USA!

but they didn't get flowers??

Apparently they did away with flowers during Rio for sustainability reasons and gave them those little weird sculptures instead. Looks like Pyeongchang is following suit, though I think a plush is a nicer idea than some abstract plastic statue.

I love that they get the little stuffed animals of the Olympic mascot. That's so cute.

Truth! I admit, I'm not a fan of being received flowers as some sort of congratulations (Or anything lol). Because you just put them in a vase with water and they die fast. Plush toys you can keep forever. Or donate them to charity and a kid can enjoy it.

Osmond 4 Gold!!!

Yassss, my friend! Turns out you were right all along when you registered your username back in 2013. :hap10:

Newfie power! They’re going to be going crazy over there tomorrow! I bet tons of children stayed up late to watch their idol last night, and tonight too, even though she didn’t skate the free.

I am soooooo happy for both Mirai and Adam. How wonderful to think you might be 'over the hill' yet four years later you stuck it out and now have an Olympic medal!!! I don't care about the rest of the competition really. I do hope Alina wins deservedly. The team event could be more exciting if countries made a point of rounding out their teams.

As for Adam's ranking, oh well. You have to admit that a program with two 2axels, no 3A-3toe is basically 1990ish content. Chan did sort of land two quads, though no 3As. I'm used to him always falling all over the place yet still winning based on the second mark. At least Kostner was not held up obscenely. Hopefully that will hold for the individual event.

Vladmir Cuchran & Anastassiya Makarova were the only two judges to not give +3 GOE to Shibs on (four section!) twizzles. They also both gave the Shibs about two less points than B/S on PCS. I guess Maia needs to take some miming lessions from the ghost of Hellen Keller.

I like it better. It's cuter and stuffed toys are awesome.

I don't think they like trivial choreography... I think whatever it is it has to be done VERY well. I also think that when you have a certain name or country it does not necessarily matter what you have. I really prefer V/M choreo this time around because I had a hard time at the begining of the season - but then they were probably finding what could be ideal and let it grow, except that everyone is scared on a Olympic year.

But everyone is running away with the narrative that Canadians are better than the French... When I compare both on EVERY single element, I'll have the French higher, and that just confirmed it tonight (if they skate like that in a week of course). It's the skating. I think the choreo on both programs does the job - yes you can be subjective but that does not necessarily play.

I'm actually not sure I disagree with anything you said here? I shouldn't have said trivial, since some of the movements are quite hard and it's always a challenge to match the musical structure while skating. I just meant - I could choreograph that and that's probably how I would choreograph it because I'm not great choreographer. It's an obvious structure. The same for the French - it's obvious choreography.

I think this season is probably exceptionally safe because ice dance is so subjective it's safest to go with kinda bland choreography, but to just perform it excellently - as both the V/M and P/C can do.

I wasn't judging the quality in terms of what should win though. In fact, if I were scoring, I wouldn't let my bias for one choreography or another really affect the results because this is a sport - I would judge how it's performed and V/M performed it fantastically, even if I don't care for it.

I'm not going to wade into the V/M vs P/C debate, I meant the French didn't have better choreography for me! I'll wait for the individual event to complain if I don't like the results heh.

me too! I don't care the rest of the competitions because Mirai already has a bronze!!
