2018 US Championships Sr Men FS

Yes, he probably would have because Adam is a down to earth, classy guy, and is friends with many of these guys. Whether some want to believe it or not.

Adam said before the decision was made that he would be OK with either decision:

“I take full responsibility,” Rippon said. “I felt really good all week. On the first quad Lutz, I felt like I was losing my right foot a little bit. I let that feeling get the best of me, like it was going. But, I did the things the criteria says to be selected for the Olympic team, but with that being said, Vincent skated very well tonight. No matter what the selection is, I will be 100 percent OK. As a competitor, I take whatever situation given to me. Ross and I, for example, have come up together for 10 years, and I am genuinely happy for him. This is what we train for. When we make a mistake, we get up and keep doing.”

I'm very FUR i ous this morning: I haven't shaved for quite a few days. Seriously, it's all so confusing.

Hence my post.

Just out of curiosity: what would have happened if Nathan had withdrawn from Nationals and Ross had won the whole thing?

Eh, they should both retire because in their entire careers they failed to accomplish anything of note up until this point. That isn't the USFSA's fault.

That is just rude. Ross is 4cc medalist, GP medalist, US National medalist. Pleeeease don't tell me it is nothing.

I don't recall being bother by Lysacek's Olympic FS costume. Maybe Nathan is early adopting some new trend of total aerodynamic body suit/looks be damned ala skiing or swimming.
Who designed his costumes last season? Both SP and FS were gorgeous. Probably my favorite of the men's.

I don't know the answer to your question. But I will say that I later modified my opinion. I didn't like the way the FS costume looked in a still photo. But I liked it a lot when he skated. His whole look. I like the shorter hair; I think it all made him look more mature.

thank you for the correction ic3rabbit.

i thought this season 2017/2018 was his 1 year at senior nationals.

i stand corrected. thank you

but he did beat out adam this year though.

He got 4CCs. But he deserved Worlds too. He’s the silver medalist.
I’m devastated on his behalf...

Also the fact that he's only 2nd Alternate for the Olympics & for the Worlds behind Jason Brown who clearly has a downswing and very anticlimactic considering how Jason skated his LP. :rolleye: It really undermines the prestige of US Championships or any National Championships for that matter when your Silver medallist gets this sort of treatment. Everyone was there. It feels bad and makes me angry even though it's not truly shocking. Shame on you USFS for your cruel decision. It's not like Ross is some mediocre skater and beat someone else they like because he was ''the least awful'' of them all here, he really skated lights out. Maybe their decision makes sense but still leaves me gutted. It must be sad for him. Just giving false hope and essentially making it look predetermined.

That having said I don't envy USFS position when they were deciding about that.

I pointed this out a few days ago. Actually IMHO Lysacek's best look was his Tosca costume and then his first draft of his 2010 LP Costume here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cN0EjO9eSjE

I did like that one better at first, but the way the spider-web things rose above his shoulders? when he raised them I didn't like that look. I may have read at the time that it restricted him a bit on jumping technique ... but I don't know whether that was just speculation from someone or not.

USFSA, shame on you! You can not be so cruel to a skater like Ross Minor who has been one of your top skaters, National's and international medalist for more than a decade. You can not ridicule coaches like Mark and Peter who have trained so many outstanding skaters and great human beens for almost 2 decades. 26 years ago Mark Mitchell was left behind the US Olympic team even though he was in 99.99% the best US skater the whole season, ONLY because he placed 3-rd at Nationals. Now, ironically enough, his student Ross Miner is left behind even though he did the performance of his life at Nationals and placed second. He is not even a first alternate for the Olympics and Worlds! What a cruelty!!! What is the "body of work" you are considering? Does it mean anything or just hides your intentions to put in the team whoever you have already decided to put????

So lets do this with points alright? I'll go by events from 2017 onwards - highest ranking skater gets 3 points, lowest gets 0. If only 2 skaters started the higher ranking skater will get 2 points, lower 1 - the rest doesn't receive points for it as they weren't there.

2017 US Championships:

1 Karen (1st Place) 3 P
2 Ashley (2nd Place) 2P
2 Mirai (4th Place) 1P
3 Bradie (9th Place) 0 P

2017 Worlds:

Karen (4th) 3P
Ashley (7th) 2P
Bradie (JW - 7th) 1P

Somewhere between Nationals and Worlds, 4CC happened
I don't know if that changes the result of the tally though... good work

Not the USFSA's fault. People should have listened. No one should be surprised at this announcement.

I was being more sarcastic. Basically the federation warn people that they will be doing this and people are up in arms. I'm glad that Nationals isn't the only deciding factor.

some like it pink ;
thank you for the point system regarding the men

but it still boils down they chose the lady's and men's discipline separately.

the lady's used top 3 and worlds not body of work criteria

men chose body of work and gp events stated in their letter chose adam due to his getting to two gp finals.
not his worlds, nor his championship, 4th place medal, his current decent season.

the women stated karen chen beat ashley at last two national championships and worlds

nothing about ashley, mirai, karen chen body of work or how finished in gp events this year or last.

if they are going by criteria they better state same for all disciplines.

not just state well adam got it due to his going to past 2 grand prix finals despite being 4th and off a year ago.
ashley didn't get on because karen chen beat her at last 2 national championships and at worlds in 2017.

why didn't ashley beat mirai off the team.
why didn't they list jason per his getting to gp final this year.
The men of Yuzuru & patrick help jason, & adam get to the Gp Final this year by pulling out. would have they got to the final in 2018 if they stayed in i sincerely doubt it.

the reason is flawed.

which makes me wonder due to some comments during the season and last season if they didn't chose the team ahead of time,
certain skaters.

Then they should have won. All shenanigans aside, I don't think the USFSA would ever consider leaving a champion off the team.

I like it. It is the same way in US men's gymnastics. Only #1 overall finisher is guaranteed a spot at worlds each year (and the Olympics?)

#1 overall finisher in men's gymnastics is not guaranteed a spot. Two automatic berths are up for grabs: to win one, a gymnast must place first or second in the all-around and place in the top three on three of the six events. That is much harder than just winning trials.
