In US home schooling is not rare, even for more typical children. In other countries it is, so no wonder people are confused.

We have it here but it's not encouraged.

They’re not even Olympian’s...just maybe lucky enough to get beyond regionals one day to never be seen on TV because they are in the early groups.

As a matter of fact, in Canada, a child has to go to school until the age of 16. If they don’t the Dept. Of Child Welfare steps in. If Home schooled, they are tested regularly and strict rules apply. Kaetlyn Osmond went through the public school system...

I am so glad most of the world doesn't read this forum. LOL. I was reading some of the posts. It is clear no matter what the scores are you will find some dissenter. Lovely skates regardless of UR's, height of jumps etc by Satoko, Wakababy and Kaetlyn. Happy for Bradie though I found her a bit bland. Sorry to see Gabby, Alina, Maria and Carolina struggle. I hope Carolina can retire in peace and move on if that is what she wants.

I guess that may be the reason why lack of education is so common in the US When i'm on social media, the things i see from those american kids... most of the time i can't believe my eyes, like, what the he*k are you teaching your kids . You're living in your own world and i'm not surprised that things are as they are, and it won't get better

To be honest, everything we hear about her sounds bit worrisome. I wonder when she said that unfortunate thing about "closing mouth and not eating". Since right now people on youtube videos are talong about how she gained weight (um.... where? She still looks like wind could blown her away), there was comments by TAT how she grown a bit (which is perfectly normal at this age).

Hopefully she can rest a bit, enjoy time with her family, connect with people out of her circle (she seems to be cling to adoring Zhenya too much) and maybe get a new coach who will not make her nervous and make her starve.

It is the same in Germany. School is mandatory until 16 years old.

Yeah I know ...

But it's still like 10 times more popular and easier to obtain than in my country. Here maybe maximally 1% of children on elementary school level are educated just at home. Sure I don't live in U.S but I remember reading about it and watching documentaries about it, here parents are actively discouraged from that even if it's legal and manageable for most. It's interesting that there are many countries in which school is mandatory only until you are 16 years old, here it's 18 years old.

Since we touched the education systems .

In Greece the education is compulsory for all the children from age 6-15. Τhat's it 6 years primary school +3 Gymnasium (junior high school).
There is no such thing as homeschool, all the kids have to go to school.

I think it's the same in Russia. Alina's school is a sports school (Olympic reserve or something like that) so they are more lenient with the classes, exams and etc.

What you are calling "reasoning" is just arithmetic. It's based on false assumptions. Just because you did the arithmetic right, it doesn't mean your conclusions are valid.

No it is not just arithmetic, I gave very clear explanations of exactly how I would score each element, and I can provide further detail beyond that for exactly what something deserves to score. The scores given at competitions are the ones that are far more based upon "false assumptions" (poor judging standards and critical analysis). The entire point of discussion is to find the greater truth behind something and to better see the viewpoints of others, which may change your own viewpoint.

Again, you have provided no reasoning whatsoever for why the scores were deserved and how something should score. I have asked people to debate with me the exact scores every element deserves and you have failed to do so. You are the one making false assumptions, just going with the scores given from the 9 judges at the competition, as if those assessments are absolutely correct no matter what. Do you also agree with every law that ever gets passed by any government and every decision any President ever makes, simply because it happened?

Well aren’t you a ray of sunshine

It’s hard to bunch everyone up into stereotypes with much success but even that point aside...I feel a need to point out that these kids at the rink take their education very seriously and I can’t think of one who hasn’t gone on to college or who I think won’t go. The number one reason almost all skaters I know retire by 18 or 19 is to get that higher education.

I’m sorry the world is so bleak for you. I’m surrounded by positivity and successful young adults for the most part. YMMV

You hold on to this assumption in order to confirm the nationalistic result that makes you most happy, refusing to engage in an analysis of the skating and the scores. You try to paint me as anti-Canadian because that's the only way you can comprehend a difference of opinion from someone who knows what they are talking about.

As I've said many times now, look at the scores I gave and debate with me where you disagree, using specifics. We can have a discussion about how much each element deserves, using comparative examples and looking at all of the specifics. I will give you numerous examples of why Osmond's footwork sequence only deserves +1 GOE, for example, and point out all of the aspects of it that I see as lacking.

Also, you can continue to argue that your scores are correct but ultimately they are your opinion. Just like each judge is providing their opinion on how they viewed the element.

While you continue to state that are you without doubt correct and refuse to take others views into consideration it’s pointless to continue with you.

I find looking at skating scores to be quite enlightening. In this particular instance I find it very hard to stomach that Alina was 5 in interpretation and 8 in performance.

She was basically already in tears at that last loop fall. How was her performance the same as Bradie’s clean skate or better than Loena?

While SS, CO, and TR are a bit less subjective, girl fell three times, how does that equal better SS thank Wakaba?

It really just highlights the absolute ridiculousness of PCS scoring. It has almost nothing to do with what happens on the ice that day.

The judges universally overscore the chosen skaters and generally give out scores that have distorted/uninformed bearing with regards to actual analysis of the skating and contextual understanding of how things should score. Their further biases of scoring skaters from their country or an "ally" country higher, and scoring the direct opposition lower, is separate from the other issues with their scoring.

9 wrongs don't create a singular correct opinion.

I am under not obligation to you whatsoever to debate you or even to read your posts. I have read many of them in the past, and you contradict yourself at every turn.

I don't contradict myself, but there you go again with no reasoning or supporting evidence at all. You are under obligation to debate if you want your opinion to have worth. By refusing to debate and discuss specifics, you nullify your opinion as being one that has value. Anyone can stand around saying any random thing, but without knowledge and reasoning and analysis, it is not convincing.

It's not as if you have engaged in discussions with that degree of depth before and shown a level of expertise and objectivity (on this forum, as far as I know), so you don't even have any ground to stand on as someone whose opinion can be taken as generally credible. If you want your opinion to be credible, then yes you need to put the work and thought in. Otherwise why should anyone listen to you, unless they happen to share your same nationalistic bias and attitude (which is simply an echo chamber)?
