2019 World Championships Free Dance

I say Nikolaj is easy on the eyes! Even with odd t-shirt with best thing going on.

If the rhythm dance is the tango, why on earth would one want to have their free program as a tango too? I'd think they would be sick of the tango after this season?

Unless this is a flamenco or paso doble, in which case I apologize.

SO impressed with these two. They finish every single movement. It's beautiful. It would be so easy to rush through this music, but every bit of choreography is used. Well done. I can't wait to see what happens with them next year.

I missed that CanDaneians so much in their year away. Thank goodness they brought this program back because it's a stunner.

Very well done! :) They kept up their characters throughout and skated at a high level, with some interesting moves. Her skirt was used very effectively.

It's a flamenco, but there were plenty of flamencos in the SD as well. I was being facetious earlier- I think this program works really well as an FD and can see why they wanted a little more time and freedom with it.

Also, glad Laurence didn't trip on her skirt this time

The vocals are still awkward, but man they are gooooood. Love the chemistry between them

I think it’s flamenco. Flamenco with the disembodied voice of Jim Morrison, which has always seemed like an odd combination to me...

Does anyone know if W/P are retiring? Because I honestly can't imagine handling the fight for Canada's #3 spot between the Canadanes, Soucisse/Firrus, and Lajoie/Lagha when they move up. C R O W D E D domestic field.

I adore the Spanish Caravan program, even if Jim Morrison's vocals sound like someone's drunk dad.

Laurence FOURNIER BEAUDRY / Nikolaj SORENSEN
Canada
Music: "Spanish Caravan" FD from last year ("Spanish Caravan" by The Doors; "Hush" and "Asturias" performed by by Marcin Patrzalek
Choreography by: Marie-France Dubreuil, Patrice Lauzon
Costumes: Purple flamenco style dress with red lining for her. Black pants and vest with short sleeved white shirt for him. Nice guns Mr L.

Program Layout:

Flamenco poses to start.
Stationary Lift - Interesting pause there before he starts tossing her around like a cape. Level 4, 1.14 GOE
Twizzles - good speed, flow and spacing. Nicely done. Level 4 FOR BOTH, 2.18 GOE
Tempo change
ML St Seq - Not much of this is done in an actual dance hold. Just saying. Level 4, 2.35
Chor Slide - As exit out of the MLSS. Nice touch. 2.28 GOE
Tempo Change
Dance Spin - Nice transition from 1st to 2nd positions. Level 4, 1.29 GOE
Curve Lift - Like the steps into the curve. Nicely done. Sliding exit out. Interesting. Level 4, 1.04 GOE
Ro Lift - Interesting variation on a cartwheel entrance. But lacking a bit of speed: with more speed he could get that to one foot. Every point counts. Level 4, 1.15 goe
Tempo change
NT St Seq - They go back to the more uptempo second rhythm again, but it never builds beyond that. Missed opportunity methinks. Level 3 FOR BOTH, 1.82 GOE
Chor Char St Seq - clear axis. Not particularly inventive or exciting. 2.21 GOE
Chor Spin - 2.49 GOE. Better than the CCSS.

It's a good program that was significantly reworked over the last year. I do have some issues with it though. It is very segmented (check out all the tempo changes). The tempo may change but it pretty much veers back and forth between two rhythms. As a result, it doesn't really build and build to an exciting climax. But it is definitely a better program than they had before. And they're skating with real confidence. I enjoyed it, but not as much as I could have had the program -- and its music -- been differently structured. YMMV of course.

They on the other hand have grown by leaps and bounds over the last 2 years. Bravo to them.

Long review. Hmm...

Score: 113.34

In the top 10 world for their first season as a new Canadian dance team, it's a good result. Congratulations to them :)
