Karen will likely be in the middle group to skate---3 groups will skate after hers. Not a good position for her, but like Loena, she hasn't competed much in the past 2 years. Unlike Loena, who has performed well when she skated, some of Karen's performances were below par.

Karen is "rank 20th" based on the list of attendees. If they are still doing skate order in blocks of 6, she will be in the group with Alina Urushadze, Eliska Brezinova, Lara Naki Gutmann, Hongyi Chen, and Dasa Grm.

Thanks. But how many skaters are actually ranked at the World Championships? Isn't it just the last three groups? Aren't the other skaters just assigned a position by random draw?

I can't find any documents more recent than June 2018's revision that talks about start order (see page 93). Literally the only "random" that came up in the document is about judges panel.
The only skater without world standing is Emilea Zingas (Cyprus).
I also made a mistake on my list, somehow missed Brezinova (who should be one rank below Karen). Oops. My eyes just glazed over trying to X out the alternates.

Harness is very different. Seems weird to work on that before worlds.
Yeah for sure, I don't think anyone's expecting her to debut a 3A at Worlds. Just thought it was interesting, especially since people often argue that Karen talks a lot about the 3A but has provided no evidence that she's working on it.
This could actually work to her advantage. I think she is better off standing out in this group, rather than being in a group with say, Leona, Yelim and Haein.

I agree. If she skates well, she could post a really good number as the stand out skater in an early round. This is also where a good crowd could come in handy. Karen usually gets good crowd reaction for her spins and beautiful extension.
Karen will skate in either the second half of group 4 or in group 5 (out of 7 total groups). The other skaters in that bunch are (in order of WS):
Alexandra Feigin, Haien Lee, Mae Berenice Meite, Ekaterina Kurakova, Yi Christy Leung, Kailani Craine, Alina Urushadze, and Lara Naki Gutmann.

There will be no crowd in Stockholm, only the tech team and judges. BTW, is there an announcement on the composition of the judging panel for Worlds 21?

I know about the crowd and that's what I think is too bad for Karen. She has some crowd pleasing elements that I think it would have made a difference if there was a crowd in place. Just so she isn't burried in the bottom half.

She has publicly handled this situation far more gracefully than I have as a figure skating fan.
But I secretly hope she is absolutely boiling inside, and that drives her to something spectacular next season... I want her to make it impossible to overlook her again.
She is going to have to win so the USFSA can't keep her off the Olympic team. But she could do this.
IMO Amber has to do well internationally as well next season to earn a berth to Beijing. Amber was 9th at 2000 4CC, 5th at 2021 SA (in a mostly US field) and 7th and 6th at 2019 SA and 2019 CoC. Her BOW doesn't begin to compare with Bradie's and Mariah's, who have both earned many GP and Challenger medals.

agree, the consistency is where she has always had the problem. this is exactly why she isn't going to worlds. if she comes out next season and proves over and over again they can count on her, they won't be able to overlook her again.

But USFS named Amber as first alternate to 2021 Worlds, and Mariah as second alternate.
Which I take as an indication that in the eyes of USFS, Amber's body of work -- as of now -- is a notch above Mariah's.
Perhaps a small notch, but a notch.
(At the very least, USFS evidently sees them as in the same league, I would say.)
In terms of USFS selection criteria, "body of work" includes results from the current season plus only certain results (Nats and ISU Championships) from the most recent preceding season. (As of Aug 2020, still true for USFS selection criteria for 2022 OWG. Meaning, for example, that Mariah's win at 2020 Skate America no longer would count toward her body of work -- unless USFS were to change the selection criteria.)
I wish both Amber and Mariah (plus other U.S. hopefuls) the best as they add to their body of work on the road toward 2022 OWG.

I take it as the opposite: that Nationals was the most important criteria (otherwise Mariah would have been first alternate because her body of work is undeniably stronger). Mariah won Skate America (the only other competition they had this year) while Amber finished in 5th, and Mariah had the stronger season last year.
Amber didn’t get the Worlds spot despite her 2nd place finish because going by points and not placement she and Karen virtually tied, so body of work needed to be a tiebreaker (which Karen easily won). Mariah was out of the conversation not only because she finished 5th but because she also ended up 15 points behind Karen (if she’d been within a point or two like how Amber, Karen, and Alysa were bunched they might’ve sent her to Worlds anyway). It was a disastrous result at a time when all she needed to do was prove she could handle pressure.
If Amber can start establishing herself as a more consistent skater next season and once again place well at nationals she has a good shot at the team! Especially if Bradie and Karen manage to get the US three spots. If nothing else just getting some triple axels ratified will go a long way for her since technical firepower is where we’re lacking.
