ISU page is updated says its Valieva, Russia actually did 0 swaps for the team event. Which is disappointing, in 2018 they substituted in a injured Medvedeva and this puts Shcherbakova as the only reigning world champ to not skate here in the team event
So happy 🥰🙂 it’s her time of her life. Like I said, she’s at her peak now and I’m so delighted to see her compete at the 4 events. I guess, they also want to prevent Sasha and Anna from injuries and let them have more time to get ready.

Wow, I’m kinda shocked that Kami is skating both.

If I’m being honest, I kinda hope it was her choice and that she wanted to be the OGM of Russian ladies.

Obviously ice is slippery and something could happen in the individual but I’m just saying.

Nooo please tell me this is not true. Didn't Kamila say she didn't want to skate 2 programs? Or was that just a rumour that someone started and then kept being repeated?
This is stupid on all fronts, for Kamila too, but especially for Anna. She has been looking so sharp in practice. But even with only 1 quad and a fall on that she would beat any other lady. She deserved to be part of this Team like no other and she is the reigning WC for God's sake.

Are they aiming at making sure that neither Anna nor Sasha get a Team Gold and that Kamila is as run down as possible for the individual event?

They absolutely cannot and will not miss the gold with Sasha or Anna. Absolutely not. I don't understand this!!!
there have already been suggestions that such a decision was made so that Sasha and Anna would not be offended by each other. Very stupid if that's the case. As a result, Kamila will overwork, and Sasha may again take unnecessary risks.

I am consoling myself that there is no one around at these Olympics so likely Kamila will be mostly left unhounded.

Hopefully she'll treat this like a run through.....

I'm baffled, I tell you, absolutely baffled!!!

Yes, this decision looks unfair.

I respectfully disagree. Having one of Anna/Sasha skating in the free is what I call unfair to the lady that will be left out. Same with T/M and B/K in the pairs.

If you look at the whole team, only the Russian Champions Kamila, M/G, S/K, and Mark are skating in the team event.

Now having the team event gold exclusive to the Russian Champs only is what I call fair to both the Russian Champs and the non-winners.

I'm afraid it is...

Well at least Anna's and Sasha's fans can live in peaace with each other...

But the load and pressure on Kami's shoulders will be huge. Four skates at such a short time.

I wouldn't say it's unfair but it most definitely is unnecessary und illogical on a sports level and cruel on a human level. There is no need for the Russian lady to blow the rest of the competition out of the water by 50 points Kamila style. Anna would comfortably place first even with a watered down program but not even that can be said as an excuse since she has been looking very good in practice and has never imploded in recent memory. They basically prevent her from going home with an Olympic Gold Medal "just because". And Kamila has nothing to win with this, only a risk of fatigue.

Really pleased for Kamila. I was fully dreading it being Anna - why should Sasha be the one to miss out? This way the team medal is truly earned by these 6 skater, and not by 5 with 1 just getting to skate when the medal is already secured.

Kamila is not Lipnitskaya, if she lands 3A in the SP in the individual event she practically has gold in the bag (and has a week to recover), even if she fails and has some mistakes she is still a lock for a medal of any color. RusFed knows the mental strength of this girl and her abilities and Eteri is now more experienced than in Sochi, so she will know how to contain Kami's emotions.
This is so sad for Anna that I will no longer enjoy ROC's victory as well. Can't they make a substitution at the last minute? What does the regulation say?

It may be but there‘s a simple way to make a decision. Use the last three major championships and see who performed better in these high pressure situations.

Sasha vs. Anna
Worlds: Anna
Nationals: Sasha
Europeans: Anna

Result: Anna skates the team event.

T/M vs B/K
Worlds: B/K
Nationals: B/K
Europeans: T/M

Result: B/K skates.

It takes five minutes and you have two additional OGMs. Or they could have created an internal skate off in Krasnoyarsk beforehand. This way, both teams/skaters would have had a shot at proving they can deliver under pressure and earn their spot. The way they‘re doing it now is just a cop-out and I feel sorry for the athletes involved who‘ll miss out on a guaranteed Olympic medal.

Eteri failed with Yulia. She delivered for the team event but completely failed for the single. Maybe she wants to prove that Kami is able to win the gold at both events or at least to medal in the single.

To be honest, I also think she wants to give a showdown between Anna and Sasha to win the gold so she has to give them the same treatment

What would happen if one of the entries already announced has a last minute setback (minor injury, for example)? I suppose that in a case like this if they are allowed to replace if they still have possible changes, right?

Sasha beat Anna in the Worlds free skate.
For half a point. Anna beat her for 16 points in the SP. And it's nearly a year. Since they turned seniors the only time Sasha won over Anna was at the last nationals. Though there's no reason of turing the FFKKR decision into a weapon against either of the skaters.
