I got the impression that she still thinks her coaches made her lose the gold. That is surprising to me, it almost sounded like they set her up.

Not sure if its a translation problem, but the 'I was kicked out of the national team' remark....talk about delusional, if I remember correctly I thought she had given a much more reasonable answer when the national team announcement came out. She wasn't kicked off the team, she wasn't selected which is only fair considering she didn't compete all last season.

No, from my translated version, it seems as if with the injury, she could not handle the higher tech program, nor did it work for her. So it seems there was an agreement to switch to the lower tech program, a program she liked better anyway. I gather she was counting on winning the short program, and once she did not, she knew the Gold was gone.

Little Lyubov's 3Lz + 3Lo, not bad! (bad quality clip, though)
The elements are great, but I am even more excited that she is skating to Ludovico Einaudi's Life! A few weeks ago I heard it on the radio for the first time and immediately thought this would be great figure skating music. So happy I did't have to wait long to see it on the ice ☺️

On a more general note, it is so nice to see activity on this thread again! Reading about all the adventures of the past year has been a favorite way to unwind after work, so I've really felt the lack of news recently.

I rewatched that part and i tend to agree with you. Although some words like "i trusted them" still look a bit weird

Maybe, but she's honest about it here. She speaks openly about her feelings, which (imho) is very different from what I'd seen from her after 2018.

Both Lyubov Rubtsova and Daria Sarymsakova landed Lz-Lo in their FS today and both did it in the second half of the program! Quite impressive!
Daria also has a very nice 2A, like all Darias do ;) some very nice spirals as well, she’s quite flexible.
While Lyuba has already learned 3A, I think for some reason Daria’s 2A looked more confident. Perhaps Lyuba‘s 2A was thrown off a little because of 3A.

Tbh, I don't remember when her injury was officially announced, but it was definitely after her first challenger competition, where she showed the initial backloaded FS program. Even then you could see that she just didn't have the stamina to pull it through. That was the first time when I (as a spectator) really realized how demanding backloading can be, when even a skater like her had difficulties. And therefore, I couldn't ignore that what Zagitova was doing, was something extraordinary, even though I was rooting for Med until the very end.

I think it is too easy to blame it all on the coaches. What were they supposed to do, when she got injured? Keep the ultra-demanding program? Interestingly enough, Evgenia has never said a thing why she didn't try backloading earlier (if not fully, than at least to move the 3F+3T in the 2nd half). Because in a very old interview, I do remember Eteri mentioning that she had suggested to up the tech in the season before the Olympics, but Evgenia has refued and thus, decided to concentrate on consistency.

Looks like Sasha's on the list for US International Classic in Boston next month. Seems a bit random, no? I originally thought it's because she'd already be in the States for Skate America but that isn't until October :scratch2: US Classic isn't even a Challenger this year, either.

EDIT: It's 3 days after test skates too, now I'm even more confused
Diana and Gleb will be there too. Maybe Eteri is going and Sasha thought why not? it is kinda strange since it's not a Challenger and that soon after test skates.

I don't know how these things work, especially if it isn't a challenger, but I'm guessing this will guarantee a full audience. So perhaps she was provided a generous stipend to appear?

I dont know if anyone flies across the world cuz "why not?" Between test skates and the GP, are any of the other Russian girls scheduled to compete? Maybe Sasha's worried about her first competition of the season being such an important one. But why wouldn't they all be? It's very strange indeed.

Who is Samodelkina's coach? This is not shade at Sofia for falling on the triple axel, bec obviously it's a very hard jump. But since it's such a hard jump, why on earth is she being made to do it from a back inside three that she cant do correctly?

How will this exactly work ?

Test skates in Chelyabinsk will end Sept 12, training for the U.S Classic starts Sept 15 in Massachusetts.
A flight time from Moscow to the nearest big airports ranges from 13h-18h that no counting the fact that it takes 2 hour flight to get to moscow from Chelyabinsk and then the travel from the nearest airport to Massachusetts. Thats going to be hell of a trip to send her on right after test skates and she will likely be badly jet lagged and tired from not only skating few days prior but also of almost 24H of non stop traveling.

I think they may be using this opportunity to see if they can get entry into the US. Trankov already said several Russian skaters have difficulties entering the US currently which will cause issues for competitions. Maybe they are testing the waters for Skate America where Sasha is also assigned to

When are the ladies done? She might be able to leave Russia by late on the 11th or early on the 12th. It’ll be kind of tight-ish, but she’ll still have a few days to get there.

Attending the first training is not mandatory. Skaters from Crystalni have arrived a day later before e.g. GPF 2019, where they skipped the first training and arrived a day later. Only Rika and Bradie were there.

I know this is kind of random since we haven't seen her skate in months, but Kostornaia might be the most polished skater I have ever seen in my life, outside maybe ice dance. I was rewatching 2020 Rostelecom this morning, and I know some people didn't like the music choices for her, which is fair enough. But there isn't one moment in either program that her toes aren't pointed, her fingers beautifully placed, her edges deep and on soft knees, her posture perfect . Truly a once in a generation talent, at least.
