She got "q", but her quads are really huge, so it's a matter of improving position and rotation.

I believe Zinina is eligible for senior nationals this year, along with Samodelkina, Akatieva and Petrosian! (Unless the rules for eligibility have changed).
This makes Russian nationals even more competitive
Looks like there will be at least 10 girls attempting either quads or 3As at nationals. Isn’t it crazy? Such a stark progress in just 2-3 years, where only 2-3 girls were attempting these jumps.

It's just test skates, she'll go for the more competitive 3Lz-3T layout when it counts. No need for it here, noone can challenge her for the top spot among St. Petersburg ladies anyway.

It's especially strange because it doesn't look like she even attempted a 3T in the LP, whereas she did a 3Lz-3T in the SP.

I didn't watch the skate, but perhaps Liza meant to do Lutz-Toe and eked out the lutz landing and only could just turn into 2A to save the combo/sequence? Or not. The -2A SEQ makes no sense, points wise.

I trust Team Mishin to do what's right for Liza, and if that's a 3Lz-2A-SEQ at St. Petersburg test skates, so be it. Liza made it to a Worlds silver medal last season despite all the naysayers, I am sure she is also aware of how many points her layouts are worth...

There really is no sense in doing a 3Lz-2A+SEQ combo at all. It gives like, same points as 3Lz+1Lo. It's absolutely awful.

Just realised that Anna Kondrashova, the first ever Russian to medal at Worlds for ladies, is coaching her son Arlet Levandi who just won silver at JGP France II.

Before the 2010s, Russia wasn't that successful in Women's skating, except for a brief period in the late 90s-early 00s when Maria and Irina dominated together with the Americans.

EDIT: Oops. I forgot Elena Vodorezova (Buianova) who took bronze at Worlds 1983. So she was the first Russian Woman to medal.

It was just the local test skates from St. Petersburg Fed, and they took place behind closed doors, so no tapes. Russian test skates will be in two weeks and I trust we will have plenty of footage to discuss.

3Lz-2A is 7.36 BV so it's a better combination than 3Lz-2T. If she messes up the 3Lz it's actually a great strategy for her. But then I also don't think that's why she did it.

I am so impressed by how tight-lipped the Tutberidze camp is. No one is leaking anything. Most curious about the progress of Aliona, Daria and Maiia.

Last season Liza changed her layout in the FS every time. If that darn 2A seq is there now, it might not be at Nationals!

Usually they do give some hints as to what to expect, from what I recall. Alina unveiled her Phantom of the Opera short at one of the ice shows in Japan, and we knew that Aliona was going to have a Twilight-themed programme for her senior debut (I thiiink it was originally going to be her SP, but landed up becoming her FP). Sasha's Game of Thrones music was also announced early.

Well IMO it's more exciting not to hear about any program music and get everything in one day. Talking about music is a bit useless for me without seeing choreography. Although I have to admit that discussions about music and those videos with program beginnings were super fun

I'm not super worried or concerned by what we see at Test skates, but Tuktamysheva/Mishin have a problem with weak layouts against her domestic competition and that's been a problem for her for years and politely there's never been much indication based on what we see in competition that they proactively do anything to address the layout problem.

To get on the Olympic team barring probably several people having complete implosions, she's going to need a quad in addition to her 2 triple axels, we've seen her do 1 or 2 different types in practice and once she attempted a quad toe in competition, which she fell on and when she did it she swapped out a triple axel for the quad. So yes, while it's only test skates, its a bit frustrating to see her do this layout that's not going to get her on the team and when she really needs to get some experience under her with a more difficult layout and a quad for her FS, so that she can do it in competitions cleanly for consideration to the Olympic team.

Tuktamysheva made it to Worlds last year because Valieva, Usacheva and Khromykh were all underage which won't be a problem this season. And while she may be aware of how many points her layouts are worth - its a point of weakness for her and per my comment above, its frustrating a bit that she/Mishin largely sticks to the same FS layout BV.

Some variation of the 2A+seq has been in the majority of her FS's for the last several years

I wonder if Alina will ever announce her proper retirement or will she just be in forever temporary hiatus. I dont see her being able to pull off a 7 jump competitive program anytime soon.

I think her and Medvedeva are going to do the same thing pretty much; nothing official for a few seasons then an announcement will happen, similar to Sotnikova and Radionova. I don't think we've ever gotten an official announcement from Pogorilaya that she was retiring. They know they aren't really able to compete with the top girls any longer, but probably not really wanting to officially close the door and say that part of their career is over and done.

Yeah, It might be like Adelina Sotnikova, who stopped competing years ago, but her official retirement was actually sometime in 2020.
