That would be so ironic. She never had a chance in Russia and then bring them the gold medal.Looks like Gubanova can actually be a key player here and win the gold for Russia if she has a good short skate.

I think Kami will skate both programs for the team event to give Anna and Sasha more time for the single.
The girls just recovered and they don’t want them to risk more injuries before the single knowing Sasha is aiming for 5 quads and Anna just restored her quads

- 'export' competent skaters to have them be able to help tip the scales in Team Russia's favor come time for team competitions.
They should get their own gold medal, if they are successful.Well its been said that Valieva has expressed a desire to not do both segments, and considering Shcherbakova could easily win doing a 1 quad program and based on the videos we have seen appears to be in pretty peak form right now (I've not seen as many videos of Trusova and I think we all know at this point - the Trusova we get in practice doesn't show up come competition time), I don't think they risk over-taxing Valieva to do the team event when there are 2 extremely competent skaters that would have to absolutely bomb to not place first in the FS.
Shabotova the Ukrainian skater is originally from Russia - Ukraine has no hope of making it to the FS, and Shabotova has been practicing a triple axel - she has nothing to lose by going for the triple axel - if she lands a triple axel I find it unlikely for Karen to beat her, unless Shabotova has a fall on her other jumps. So potentially there are 2 Russian ex-pats could help secure a Team Russia gold medal....Maybe this was Russia's plan- 'export' competent skaters to have them be able to help tip the scales in Team Russia's favor come time for team competitions.

Right now it looks like Russia is changing Women and Dance for the long. US Men and Dance, Japan Men and Women, Canada Pairs and Dance, China Pairs, Italy Men and Pairs.Well its been said that Valieva has expressed a desire to not do both segments, and considering Shcherbakova could easily win doing a 1 quad program and based on the videos we have seen appears to be in pretty peak form right now (I've not seen as many videos of Trusova and I think we all know at this point - the Trusova we get in practice doesn't show up come competition time), I don't think they risk over-taxing Valieva to do the team event when there are 2 extremely competent skaters that would have to absolutely bomb to not place first in the FS.

BIG pressure on Gubanova though. She will probably need to be 3rd while China needs to fail for making Georgia go through to the long. That would be so ironic. She never had a chance in Russia and then bring them the gold medal.![]()

Canada has only one man to compete. So if they make the free he will be doing both.Right now it looks like Russia is changing Women and Dance for the long. US Men and Dance, Japan Men and Women, Canada Pairs and Dance, China Pairs, Italy Men and Pairs.
That means that Kondratiuk will be the only man of the top countries that has to do both. The Team gold will be decided in Men.
Valieva will skate last tonight. If Wakaba fails her 3A, then Kamila can go for safety and just do the 2A.

The only reason for Russia to change dance would be, if Nikitas back is worse than he confesses. Russia needs the points and can´t afford to let Diana and Gleb skate the FS.Hmm, where have you seen that Dance is changing? Nikita K. said a few days ago that they were going to do the FD. Plus S/B are not yet in Beijing so the FD if changed it would have to be D/S while I know the conspiracy theory is that Eteri wants her daughter on the team to get an Olympic medal, D/S finished 7th at Euros, they are unlikely to place second in the FD which would put Russia in a position of needing the US to bomb somewhere.

Figure skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics – Team event - Wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org
“We will do a free dance. We are ready, we want, we are charged, we feel great. What else to say? Everything is great with us. We will, we want,” journalist Konstantin Lesik quotes Nikita Katsalapov in his telegram channel.
Here's a quote (Google Translated) from Nikita to a journalist. I wouldn't put much faith in Wikipedia, it can be edited by anyone and the conspiracy theorists have been going hard on the Team event for D/S to trash Eteri.

Kamila will most likely be 1st unless she gets a bad case of the nerves. But Chen can place pretty much anywhere from 2nd to 8th. If she bombs then there may be points to spare and Eteri can get the Rus fed to gift her daughter a gold. After all in the fs there is only 5 teams so its easier to get more pts.As well as on Kami. That's the only thing I'm afraid of. She is literally unbeatable in this SP unless her nerves would abandon her. Though of course I hope such thing won't happen at all.BIG pressure on Gubanova though. She will probably need to be 3rd while China needs to fail for making Georgia go through to the long.
That's the thing. RusFed is playing it safe too much. Considering that both Wakaba and Karen are not exactly known for having great PB in SP they could easily put Anna or even Sasha in SP instead with very minimal risk. Even Sasha with fallen 3A is getting ~75 and Anna potential is 80+. Anna can give impression of not very stable due to her 3Lz+3Lo combo - but they can put there 3Lz+3T instead easily - just for team event. I don't remember at all when Eteri girls couldn't do that combo (Anna's 3Lz+2T was attempt to save 3Lz+3Lo btw - it wasn't planned). On other hand Wakaba and Karen are skaters closer to high 60s/low 70s level - I don't believe in her 3A in team event - it's too reckless for JapFed if they want any medal. You can always said that Loena won over Sasha and Anna in SP recently - but it's different case. I consider Loena and Sakamoto as the two strongest nonRussian woman skaters now - while Karen and Wakaba is in lower league, IMO.She is literally unbeatable in this SP
You clearly is not following Shabotova - else you would know how she is usually judged. Even if she skates squeky clean with landed 3A - she is gonna get no more than 65. ISU hates Ukranian or Belorusian skaters with passion - and it's not very fond of Russian skaters recently moved to other flag either. So be prepared to see bunch of q and ! marks on everything coupled with abysmal PCS (like 24-28 at best). The same can be said about Gubanova - considering she will skate long before Karen in a first flight - the judges make sure to hold her as low as possible to not endanger US team too much. Not because they all are proAmerica. It's just ISU wants to keep viewers excited for team event - and with Georgia surpassig USA here - the intrigue will be lost for the whole remaining event.if she lands a triple axel I find it unlikely for Karen to beat her, unless Shabotova has a fall on her other jumps
Words of support by Anna's sisters. In english! While Inna is studying abroad so her level of english is natural, Yana's english is really outstanding for her age.

Who will get the free escape from Russia to close out the team event? I am assuming it's Eteris 3rd daughter Anna.
Also will the great coach push for her pair's team to do the free skate in the team event if it looks like Russia will win the team gold?
You are all over this and can see into future.
Can you help us with covid and when it will end?
Spot on about the 2 Nastias too. Sad but true.
Why would anyone care who leaves one country to skate for another? To have prejudices against these 2 girls because they did that is sickening and to think that people in power think that way is unbelievable.
I did not know the International Skating Union hated Ukraine and the Belarusian figure skaters with a passion. It suggests another reason the isu needs to be replaced. Or their leaders need to be replaced by younger people with open minds.
It should be Anna because she's world champion and her record the last 3 years is incredible especially with the competition that she has faced worldwide and in her own rink.I think it will be Shcherbakova given that we didn't get any vlogging today from the arena (thus far at least), and I think it would have more to do with the reigning World champion than being some supposed favorite of Eteri.
Could it have anything to do with the fact both of those ladies are originally Russian? Europeans had like 7 of the top 10 finishers of the ladies were Russian born skaters; it wouldn't surprise me if the ISU doesn't like that.
