2022-23 Russian Local Events – Discussion

yeah Zoya should have not been switched to represent moscow, im not sure what team tut was thinking. She could have easily qualified to novice nats by representing her former club instead like Sadkova.

Team tut really destroyed their novice team by leaving it to Pohilyuk to manage alone. He seems nice but clearly not up to the job. Im not that surprised they haven't been competing anywhere recently.

I'm a bit worried about Margarita Bazylyuk not making the cut-off, she's already in 18th. There are still a lot of skaters to go and 55.57 is really not a particularly high score, unfortunately. :(
yeah not her best short sadly, she is actually one of the ones im not worried about bad skates happen. Hell all of the top skaters in this age groups have had some disaster skates this season and fallen on the combo in the short but they have had multiple competition to work out these issues and learn how to bounce back from bad skates. If she makes it through she could easily make up the difference and them some with the elements portion and the free.

Team tut skaters not competing anywhere has also lead them to not even get reputation scoring. If Elena or Alina Prineva, Valeria had had the type short Margarita had aka falling on a combo, which they have had before, the judges would have tried to save them and likely would have scored closer to 60 here. Kira and Yulia scores were low even tho both went clean but both have competed 1 before this season and judges tend to be stricter with skaters who have no reputation or they haven't seen do well in many competitions before and there's no Eteri bonus in novices any longer to help them here.

Zoya desperately needs competitions to work on her nerves and learn to preform in competition like she does in practice.

Daria Sarymsakova is also clearly training and learning quads but we haven't seen her anywhere after the moscow championships and same goes for Elizaveta I.

This new approach is going to kill their novice team and I do get why their doing it. They want to avoid possibly loosing to the other skaters and setting a precedent on how their skaters will be scored vs others in the future when all go clean but all of these skaters are constantly competing against each other and loosing to each other. They are hurting themselves more by not sending them to competition than sending them and having them loose to others.

I love seeing skaters I've never even heard of doing so well here. :love2:

Maria Lubkova is another skater I did not know about a few minutes ago and apart from the issue on the last spin, she did very well too. Her 2A is big and springy and she had a fair amount of expression between the elements as well. Also, her dress is really interesting, I'm not sure if I absolutely love it or if the poofy skirt is a bit too much 😅

Maria has improved loads this season, she even has been trying a 3A!

I just realized that Margo got scored very stingily on PCS, the judges really didn't care to even try to save her  Her TES score itself isnt the big issue here ive seen Lukashova, Prineva and Kostelyeva get far higher PCS scores with worse shorts so her not having much of a reputation with the judges is hurting her a lot here . She can only afford 3/6 of the skaters in the upcoming group to score above her, im not sure she will be making it out of the short honestly.

That was one of the better Shorts I've seen from Iuliia this season, she had a lot of issues with the 3Lz combination before, ending up with a +COMBO more times than with a valid combination.

Either way, Margarita has made the cut-off, even if just barely. Still, I worry about how this will affect her confidence. It cannot be easy going into a competition as basically the favourite and then barely making it to the elements section and the Free Skate

Margo made it to elements!
If she lands her quads she can make up a lot of that 12-13 point difference she has between herself and Alena, Valeria and Elena. Ofcourse those girls also have quads and if they land them then she might have fully thrown her podium finish.

I feel so bad for Zoya tho, she would have easily qualified for novice nats if they hadn't moved her to represent moscow same with Yuliana but she still has a chance here.

Im not sure, maybe they decided against sending her. She hasnt had the best track record in Moscow championship during the previous years. Im hoping its not an injury.
Maybe they'll send her to Older age novices Moscow Championships?

They'll probably also send Masha Mazur there, as she, unfortunately, didn't qualify for Junior Nationals, even with Lyuba likely not being able to compete due to her leg injury.
