So these were the results from 2022 Skate Houston.

Nina Ouellette, SC of San Francisco
Rique Newby-Estrella, Dallas FSC
40.13

Congrats to Sonia Baram/ Daniel Tioutmentsev on their gold medal win at JGP Ostrava. Shout out also to Cayla Smith/ Andy Deng on their second place showing, just edging out the lovely Panetta/ Thrasher of Canada. The Japanese and French teams (4th and 5th respectively) were also standouts at this event. :cheer2:

Training clip of Collier/ Mitrofanov:

Looking good. 👍

Greater Chicagoland Fall Invitational is part of the NQS series. Listed for junior pairs are the Church siblings (Margaret & William), along with Isabelle Martins and her new partner, Aaron Felberbaum. The only senior pairs entry is Laiken Lockley with a new partner, Edoardo Caputo.

Sharing a post from the new partnerships thread. The reference to Team Drew, et al, which includes 'Danny,' seems to confirm that Danny O'Shea is working as a pairs coach in Colorado. He often appears to be training with the other skaters, but that could be due to him working with pairs girls who are searching for partners.

Naomi Williams and Lachlan Lewer-Parr are a new pairs team based in Colorado Springs.

They are competing at Skate St. Moritz this weekend.

Lachlan formerly competed with Campbell Young for Australia.

Also very interesting: Danny O'Shea is listed as a coach at the WASA Account bio.
Quoting this information from the country/coaching switches thread, for further news about Danny: he is listed as appearing in the Broadmoor Skating Club "Fire and Ice" show on 23rd September with Ellie Kam. Not sure if this is just for the show, as she was at Cup of Colorado in August still skating with Ian Meyh.

I’ll ask my source.

Alexa Knierim apparently responded to Dave Lease wondering on a recent TSL episode about whether she and Brandon are training. LOL! Alexa apparently DM'ed Dave to calm down. She has been posting life updates on her Instagram. For sure, Alexa & Brandon have been training, as well as enjoying great moments and celebrating their success in achieving long-held goals. They don't have to be loud about it.

I'm not sure whether they will compete at a tune-up prior to SA. I would imagine they will. Good luck to our defending World champions this season! 💖 :cheer:

I'm still disappointed in not being able to see a replay of IFSC pairs event. It's unconscionable! U.S. figure skating should post an archived stream immediately on their fan zone.

Another thing that's despicable is the Russian fs site purposely stating they would not cover pairs because there was "nothing to see." That's obviously a direct dismissal/ insult to U.S. pairs because this was a U.S. skating event with at least four U.S. teams, two Canadian teams, and the Italian team, who won the competition.

I had been hoping to find some posted videos, but nothing so far. Anyway, I had avoided looking at the final results until today. I also checked the protocols. It appears that very little separated Chan/Howe from the Italian pair, Ghilardi/ Ambrosini, aside from G/A being on the senior international scene a bit longer. Thus, status rep and politics probably factored into judges' perceptions (and probably errors by both teams). I'm unhappy about not being able to see an archived stream. This has not been a great start to the season.

The Russian diss in covering every discipline at the U.S. event except pairs, surely has something to do with the fact that a U.S. team are the current World champions. The Russian fans who manage the streaming site decided to be dismissively nasty by ignoring the pairs portion of the U.S. event. 😡

Since I couldn't see Chan/Howe compete at IFSC, I looked for some of their past performances.

Here they are at Cranberry in the sp last summer:

And their exhibition number at An Evening with Champions earlier this year:

Why would he ask such a stupid thing? Never mind..it’s Dave Lease.

DL is always about being blatantly gossipy and snarky and acting as if he's in-the-know. He was making assumptions based on not having heard what they've been doing re their competitive plans, plus he apparently trolls Alexa's Instagram.

DL likes to provoke skaters, especially the ones he knows and has chatted with in informal settings. He was probably hoping to provoke a response from Alexa, so that he could say she DMed him a response. 🙄

Both Alexa and Brandon have been pacing themselves and enjoying the perks of their success! They've earned the right to enjoy the fruits of their labors. 🌟🥳

BTW, Brandon is an expert bridge player, in addition to his athletic prowess. He has played in some top bridge tournaments during the off-season!!! I love this for Brandon. He knows how to maintain a cool, neutral pokerface. 🔥🎲♦️🥇😎🤑

Meanwhile, Alexa has vacationed in Italy with Chris, and celebrated one of her bestie's engagement/ nuptials. 👰💃💓

I don't listen to him. Don't give him any bandwidth. And if he ever steals any of my videos I'm going to issue a DCMA takedown notice.

How fun!

Chris Knierim will be the new skating director at Oakton Arena, Park Ridge, IL

(He announced on the Santee on Skates podcast interview with Chris and Alexa, sounds like David Santee is stepping down or going to another position).

Chris didn't give a time, but it didn't sound like it was a year away. And Alexa sounded psyched to come home to Chicago. Definitely get the vibe (no surprise) that this may be Alexa's last year.

The interview overall is good, recommend taking a listen.

What? What the what?

I have to listen to the podcast. Maybe Chris will be moving into the position next year. I always felt like if Alexa/Brandon came back, it would be for only one more season. In that respect, I'm not surprised. Kudos to Chris on his new position, and to David S on his successful tenure.

All of David Santees podcasts are great. I'm wondering what David will be doing now. He's a technical controller I believe, and as such he appears to have a policy of not interviewing current skaters, at least not that I can tell. Therefore he has a lot of content of interviews of skaters not that many people interview these days, such as Carol Heiss Jenkins and Alan Jenkins. By the way, both these former skaters have had hip replacements, and I'm not sure men were doing triples back then, women certainly weren't. It makes me worry for the health of current skaters. It's up to them of course, but I listened to Jen Sey's (former US National gymnastics champion from, I think, 1980) and she said the coaches just simply didn't care if they were going to be arthritis ridden later, or what the consequences would be. She had a particularly grisly fall where she broke her femur and all the coaches wanted was to get her back out there. I hope our beloved skaters coaches are more conscious of the health of their athletes.
