Yuma's and Mark's performances were great

Vincent performed as well as expected
silver is not bad
hooray for the potential medal for Japan

He definitely delivered but I don’t think he has the PCS to match hanyu or Chen but he could get the bronze or silver depending what the top two guys do
having the jumps and skating skill quality matters more... PCS will eventually come, especially if the others don't deliver... 208 is a pretty high score.. he still got 92 for this skate in PCS and I suspect that his PCS will rise every time he skates from now on.

Listen, if you are a figure skater and you say you are proud to represent our country and you are selected for the Olympic team you go and do your job and do what’s best for the team. So if Nathan wanted to skip the free skate to rest for the individual event then shame on him. I think at this point Mariah will need to skate the free skate to save the silver medal. I think pairs stays the same abs hubbell and Donahue stay the same for pairs and ice dance free. Karen can’t get it done. Mariah could get 2nd behind Russia and save the silver medal. Japan is not going to catch up to us in ice dance or pairs so we need a solid 2nd or third in ladies.
Mariah is not placing ahead of Kaori. And it was already decided that C/B would do the free. USFS changing it would be a nasty betrayal to them considering they were probably the ones who decided to split with H/D. H/D probably won't beat S/K again anyway.

Also, Nathan is under no obligation to do the team event. I don't blame him at all for prioritizing his individual medal over the team one. Besides, even if he skated in the free and got 1st, USA would still probably end up 2nd behind Russia.

Yeah, def saw that coming. Vincent gets called all the time for UR’s but that popped Flip didn’t help. ROC can safely afford to put Davis in to protect Nikita’s back and still win gold at this point. I would SCREAM though, and honestly it would be smart, if ROC puts Tarasova/Morozov in instead. This way, it protects Mishina and Galliamov from losing twice to Sui and Han, ROC still has the gold, and Eteri still gets her 40 percent cut from winnings for another gold medalist. It depends on what Russia values more, their chances at a gold in Pairs, or “gold” (silver) in Ice Dance.

Putting in Tarasova/Morozov is fine. USA made it easy for Russia by giving them Karen and Zhou (although Mark delivered). But Russia shouldn’t be stupid and put in Davis/Smolkin. Maybe if they had a better first three segments they could afford that but if the Americans win the FD and D/S come 4th (or even 5th against the Chinese duo which is very possible), that could make things too close for comfort.

See, there is where American and European taste differs. I would take Mark over Vincent any day.:ROFLMAO:

That's funny, I think Red Pants Jesus is one of the most "American" programs, in approach and style, that I've seen. Not to mention that the is music a staple of the Broadway stage. I do like the kid, I just like Vincent's Crouching Tiger better.

But Yuma has been one of my faves for years now, so overall I'm pleased. :)

Oh we all knew Chen should skate this for the best shot at gold. Same with Liu. But Russia was slated to win this from the jump and burning out their individual gold medal shot is asinine.

Important to consider. After hearing Yuma’s score that would have put a TON of pressure on Chen. And if Chen lost to Yuma it would have been a REALLY bad things. Chen’s FS scores internationally this season are all lower than what Yuma just got.
before the competition : true... for sure... RUssia is by far #1... after the first 3 events... USA had a shot and could have tried to get it.
Regarding how Yuma delivered and that could have put pressure on Nathan.. Yes... But Nathan's absence may have left Yuma feeling free and confident :) Wanna tango?

LOL! Yeah, I forgot about young Ilia. U.S. fed decided to give Vincent some experience at the last Olympics. They'd have been better off giving Ilia some experience at this Olympics, sans Vincent btw, not sans Jason. LOL for days. Yep, Vincent has never been a favorite of mine. Sometimes he delivers stellar performances (but not with the artistry some people seem to think he has, mind you). And apparently when least expected, and at inopportune moments, he gets the yips.

With the poor performance that Vincent put out in the fp at U.S. Nationals, he should have been in fourth behind Jason, and let 1,2,3 be the team, without any further drama, actually. No need for Vincent falling on his face, when he had already badly botched the fp at Nationals. The dumbfounding U.S. fed judging panel, simply decided to give Vincent a 'get out of jail free and go to the Olympics card,' instead of dumping him. And then they made a huge drama out of selecting Jason over young-gun talent, Ilia. Once again, it should have been Ilia over Vincent.

This ain't a good statement either for Vincent in the individual events. Let's just say that neither Vincent, nor Boyang are gonna see the podium in the individual events. Too much better talent is ahead of them!

Good grief. What are the numbers and placements at this point. I'm lost.
Yeah, I will never understand why Malinin wasn't chosen for the Olympics. He would have been a medal contender!!

This depends on Nathan. (By the way, Chris, may I suggest that look at your autocorrect. Nathan spells his name with two a's).

The US Fed is not, repeat not, going to force Nathan to skate the Team FS if he doesn't want to skate it. And if I were Nathan, I would not skate it.

I am one who has loved and valued the Team Event, and its medals, since 2014.:) But the US Fed will not go all out for the TE gold. It doesn't signal world domination to them and it simply is not as important to them as making sure that the stars align for a Nathan individual gold.

Of course Vincent is not a sure thing, but if the US had to choose between Team Silver/Gold and a Nathan individual medal, they are choosing Nathan every time. And I don't blame them.
We have autocorrect????? how do I turn it on?

I think this is what happens when you come from a country as individualistic as the USA (granted people care about the team with football, basketball, baseball, and men's hockey), but I think the Olympic figure skating schedule wasn't great either. If they wanted to do pairs last, it would have been better to go dance-men-ladies-pairs.

Kagiyama’s at low 40s in the SP and he just got 92 for the FS here. I don’t think he’ll beat Chen, but it’ll be because of the tech, mainly the SP. Kagiyama’s not scoring a 110+ SP. But he’s definitely a favorite for the podium now, but he already was.

Nathan did his job wonderfully well. It's not his fault Vincent and Karen did not.

And Yuma was always Nathan's biggest rival for the gold if Yuzu wants to continue trying that 4A

Wow! I was just thinking after my last post. Wouldn't it have been cool to see young Ilia skating in the Olympic team fp event AFTER phenom Yuma Kagiyama!!! Awww, what a huge mouthwatering missed opportunity dumb U.S. fed!!! We woulda had a chance to see the future battling it out right before our eyes!!! Oh boy! NBC woulda loved that! What a blah downer this night has been for the U.S. broadcasters re the figure skating. :palmf:

How I dislike U.S. fed and their backwards decision-making processes. And nope, don't lay any blame on Jason being selected to go to the Olympics either. Jason Brown deserved to be in Beijing. He showed courage and gumption in the U.S. Nationals fp, and over the past four years too, whereas Vincent tanked in the Nationals fp, and he tanked at Worlds 2021, and he's had other poor dumbfounding performances. And, at one point, he'd supposedly left the sport even. He should have stayed away.

Goodbye Karen and Vincent. Good luck in your post-figure skating lives.

Any time someone said Vincent had a “chance for individual medal” as a reason to send him I was like ummmm have you even been watching Shoma and Yuma this year?

SA he performed well but it was also a US event, calling was favorable to him. Just like at nationals when they blatantly ignored multiple very obvious < to keep him on the podium.

Hope they pull their head out of the clouds now. He can’t be trusted.

I don’t think Yuma is perturbed by who he skates against. His technique is just so solid that all he needs is confidence in himself.

I’m actually really astonished at the lack of +5s for Yuma’s jumps. Some of them were literal perfection. How his 3A+3T was only a +3 and those same judges gave +3 to Mark’s axels is just completely wrong.
