No that was worlds in 1994 (after Lillehammer). She didn't want to get on the platform for a long time and then took the medal off right away.
I think she would have had a better point in 1993 worlds where she had one of her best skates ever but newcomer Baiul was placed above her for reasons that I still don't understand...
Thank you, I only knew of Sonya.

I had an eerie feeling last night that I'd seen it before -a sad looking, abandoned by own team OG winner... and so I did just four years ago!
It was the most uncomfortable Oly final ever...
Sorry if it was mentioned before but the BESP guys actually believed that Sasha tantrum was about Kamila and commended her on the support she showed for her friend! The longer it went I realised though that it could not had been, then I caught a few words in Russian by Sasha and ,well, it sure didn't look that way. For a moment I even had a crazy idea that Sasha was fed the same stuff as Kamila and was about to spill it to the world (!) and then the ugly truth came out. Oh dear!
Straight away I remembered how Yulia refused to go to the medal ceremony in a GP event, in the first event she skated poorly after her winning season, the judges propped her to the silver but she was not having it!
Eteri has a knack of bringing the worst in people I think maybe because she treats them as materials on the factory floor.
Kaori was one bright spot in the whole mess, but when she burst into tears I gave up watching as it became almost farcical.
Happy to realise this morning that the flower ceremony did take place last night after all, and the medal one today.
And wow I predicted correctly on Wednesday that Anna would win, and now I predict that being a smart girl she will retire shortly.

Alexandra Trusova deserve the first place like Evgenia Medvedeva deserve the first place in 2018. I feel that Trusova could talk with Evgenia Medevedeva about this situation. Both girl have a similar Olympic experience. I hope that Trusova change coach and go to Plushenko or Brian Orser. Eteri look like to not be a good fit for Alexandra.

Depends on what you think figure skating should be.

Nothing against Evgenia, really, but what makes you think that? No one will be trashing Anna this time at least that's for sure.

actually no , but it would force certain trainers to change their method to include longevity and jumping techniques that last and dont begin to fail . you would see anna, sasha , kamila ( if they continue and are able to still able to jump ) Adelia, sofia Akatieva , veronika zhilina. so you are saying those would be unwatchabke? or are you saysing it because you know that with eteris method they wont make it until then?
I am telling that until Adelia, Akatieva and Zhilina reach the set bar of 16, 18 or whatever age, I would be watching the junior circuit and not the adult one. And since on the junior level there many other exceptional young ladies, it will turn into another blood bath. Not really child protective, hm?

Trusova skates on two feet 90% of the time and her basic SS are so mediocre, I would give her 6 max for SS but somehow she will have better PCS than Wakaba quite possibly. She was not interested in performance at all either.
Johnny and Tara said she's very open about not caring about SS or PCS at all. Not what I like to see. Ugly skate to me.

Overshadowed by all the drama is congratulations to Alysa and Mariah on giving inspired, mostly clean and effervescent performances. Alysa is not the most graceful or subtle skater ever, but I can't resist her sublime joy and found myself cheering and clapping at the tv throughout her program. They were both a fresh of breath air and looked like they wanted to be there, unlike the Russian favorites on their grim march to the podium. Props to Karen too for the grace and beauty of her skating, despite her triple loops and technical difficulties.

What the Americans and Japanese brought here is what I like to watch, and the sport's priorities and judging seem so off kilter right now I can't care much about the results. It is a sport, not a show, and there definitely needs to be weight given to difficult elements, but give me a soaring Kaori triple or Mariah's glorious camel spin over a ruthlessly efficient Russian quad any day. I admire what the Russians do, but the difference in power and speed of the Japanese women and the artistry of Leona or classic beauty of Mariah seem underscored in comparison.

I see it is not an age limit thing - it's an attitude thing. How do you regulate "the right sporting attitude?" I still don't think a drastic raise in age limit is the answer, as skaters need experience and seasoning. As somebody said, do we really want to keep skaters at junior level until they're college age? Seems like so many would test out and go to college before ever competing at championship level. Would we really want to hold Isabeau Levito in juniors for three or four more years? Maybe a combination - raise it a year to 16 and also a close look at the GOEs and components and how they are judged to better differentiate quality.

I didn't find Sasha's freeskate ugly, but just surprisingly underwhelming. For a program with five quads to an Iggy Pop song, it should have been more exciting than it was. I know it was bada***, but I just didn't feel it. Five quads and an awesome cantilever, red hair and eyeliner - that's about all I remember. More choreography and curating of the bada**ery, and it could have really sung more, I'm sure.

Well it cost her the Gold medal, maybe it will make her realize the value of it.

She should never have come back then. I hope Eteri learns a lesson from all this, don't accept back someone who has left and strive to focus on the girls who are truly loyal to their team. All the drama of Eteri destroying figure skating, even the IOC president against her, WTF!!! She can't control Trusova's crisis, I really think she was the most surprised to see her reaction. We all watched as the trainers tried to control her, she was just out of her mind. We also saw the support they gave Kamila, the situation was already complicated. The fact that they let her compete only indicates that they are sure of her innocence. Anna always with class, she does not need to be flattered in front of the cameras, she knows that her team, her family and her country are proud of her.
