2022 Olympics: Women's Free Skate

For real?!

That's disgusting, what is WRONG with her?! How dare she...she either gave Kamila those drugs or pushed her into taking them because of the pressure and now she's criticising her?!

Heartless, cruel, vile.

Eteri needs to go, she almost single handedly destroyed our beautiful sport.

She's already destroyed Kamila, and Yulia and Zhenya and Aidan Pitkeev and a long, long list of others.

Utter poison.
Eteri shouldn't be allowed to coach young people
I hope what happened with Kamila will make parents more careful who they hire to coach their children.

Tara on NBC talks about Alysa miss triple triple in bonus program by just "one second". Damn. Alysa miss that 10% bonus points. If Alysa lands triple triple in second half program, what score she would get? 210, right?
Yes, approximately. Alysa also lost points in going for the 3A and having it downgraded but I'm glad she did. She did very well in a very competitive field.

I felt Kamila should not have been allowed on Olympic ice. You can't dope and still skate on the biggest stage in the world.

With that being said, my heart aches for her. Such a beautiful girl like that is a victim of a sick, twisted system that could ruin her.

Kamila needs to get away from Eteri before she completely ruins her. Go talk to Evgenia about how she got away. It's hard. She's 15 and someone like this completely going to waste would be a pity to the sport.
Unfortunately, Russia isn't like the US where skaters can change coaches and perform at the same or better level. Every skater that has left Eteri has seen her scores go down, for whatever reason. There are also contractual issues, as I understand it.

So you wanted the IOC to continue like nothing happened? That is nothing short of wishful thinking.

If you think this has been the end of Kamila's Olympics glory, just think for a moment the amount of damage this has done to the sport itself.

I think Kamila has potential for 2026 but this was a no-win scenario for her.

It would have been much more damage to her and the sport had she podiumed or won.

Drama aside, from a judging standpoint it's already bad enough as it is that she was 5th in the FS and got 70 PCS.

Because my automatic translation suggest that "I´m more than sure that for Sasha and Kami this is not the last olympic games". Did he really say that? He doesn´t believe that Anna will be at the next OG? But there could be there are som words lost in Translation... Or maybe he said that because for Sasha and Kami this was so disappointing, it was just such a strange phrase...

From Press Conference:

-during the live stream we could hear you saying that you hate this sport, can you explain what was happening and what is that you hate?

It's been three years since I haven't won any major competitions.
and i thought this was because... well i am trying to achieve a certain goal, like I always set many quads and when i will achieve it, I can win, but it didn't happen and that's why i was disappointed

Yes, she would have gotten an additional 1.10 points and a total of 210.05. It wouldn't have changed her placing though.

I got to watch the programs of the top contenders and some of my faves. So much running through my mind.

1. congrats to the medallists What a difficult competition not only because it is the olympics.
2. congrats to all the skater. High level of competition.
3. My favorite program in the fs was Sakamoto but I also give huge kudos to Anna, Sasha, Karen, Wakaba and You
4. I feel for Kamila - the pressure on a 15 year old. Some will say at least there will be a medal ceremony but oh so tragic - everyone was the victim and especially her
5. The media swarm - yikes
6. Amazing the tech prowess. I honestly thought I would like Wakaba more but she kind of disappointed me.
7. Liu had her chance for the bronze and I was thinking for the last few years we would see her on the podium but while she has improved a lot she didn't have enough.
8. All the US ladies are lovely skaters not sure why Karen and Mariah have such tech issues. Karen's delay on th jumps are wonderful but only if they don't cause UR's. All 3 ladies showed such polish here
.9. Anna and Sasha are troupers! Fighters. Not perfect skates but wow. Considering the concerns of injuries especially Anna they cam through and even with their teammate in turmoil and crtiticism to their country, skating federation, coach and even on them they held it together for such young ladies.
10. Olga, Alex, Madi didn't have their best skates here but keep your eyes on them.
11.The Korean ladies emulate Yuna Kim well. They like the Americans are well rounded skaters - really enjoy the complete package.
12. the Third Japanese ladies was a disappointment but she did earn her spot.
13. Sasha might be regretting going for he 3A in the sp - not sure that would have made the difference.
14. The tech levels are so high but I do wonder if it affects the artistry in seeing the prgrams. When you think about it Sakamoto the bronze medallists is more in lline with Alina, Evgenia and Kaetlyn from 2018. The quads and 3 axel is a score changer.
15. I hope people appreciated the attempt made by these athletes. Overall great skating; no real amazing memorable program as a complete program but that makes sense. Not every olympics is their a knock out performance. Although technically wow and that was without Valieva being on. I wish there would be no snide comments or hints about any skater including but not limited to Valieva. These 25 ladies did it! They skated their guts out.

Welp. I certainly didn't expect any of that.

Kurakova pulled a Nathan Chen circa 2018 lp by moving up so many places.

Karen Chen pulled a Nathan Chen circa 2018 sp. WHY insist on doing the loop when you know it's not there? She's a beautiful skater, but wut?

To file under "What If...": If Bradie hadn't gone down to injuries, her PB would have gotten her 4th here (PB was at USNats, so probably inflated). Her PB outside Nats would have STILL gotten her 4th though. She definitely could have at least matched well against the Japanese.

Mariah and Alysa: good job, ladies. Alysa is still a threat for the future and will be fun to watch. It took Jason Brown a long time to nail the 3A, and now he aces it, so I expect her to do the same. She'll be a good role model for the ones coming up behind her.

Happy to see the Japanese ladies make a statement (and get a medal). Did Midori Ito cover the event? I'd love to know what she has to say.

Kamila: Regardless of the final outcome of the drug testing situation, I hope she gets the psychiatric care she probably needs. Eteri's coaching team are the coldest people I've ever seen, so I sadly have my doubts they'll get her that care.

Trusova: I have not watched the backstage coverage, but going by what was shared here, I have thoughts. That meltdown probably stems from fear that she's now going to "age out" from being one of TT's favored students. TT's skaters just don't come back for a second Olys because the Juniors come along and the focus goes to them. It truly sounded like she fears she won't make it to 2026 (if the minimum age is changed, she might not have to fear the upcoming Juniors so much). I don't like her skating style, but I give her credit for sticking to her vision for her skating. If she'd jump to another coach she would at least escape DanniG as choreographer (dude is the Mike Brady of skating; he can only do the same program over and over again, no matter what the music).

Anna: I don't know much about her, but she seems to be the quiet workhorse in the background, and it's a damn shame her backstage moments after winning were overshadowed by K&T's drama. If Trusova were the "good girl" some people on this board insist she is, she would have saved the meltdown for later and let Anna have her moment. Instead, TT had to run around trying to de-escalate. They reap what they sow. It almost seemed like Anna was afraid for having beaten the two anointed queens of Russian skating, and that's also a damn shame.

I await the world team decisions with bated breath.

Trusova had her break down behind the scenes, where tbh, we shouldn’t have seen it, then did what was expected of her on the podium. And given the set of circumstances, she managed.
This. We shouldn't have seen this.

She has been waiting for this day for long time and it meant so much to her. She has the right to suffer and liberate herself of the stress and emotions, without being filmed and judged. She is only 17. She needs time to digest it. Personally, I think she is a very sweet girl. She was pushed emotionally to her limits. I am sure she will come back stronger.

What was outstanding on Sasha´s skate? That she skated from jump to jump? Even the skaters in the first group made more of an effort to perform a program than Sasha did. You think she was underscored in PCS, I think 65 points in PCS would have been enough. So we can agree to disagree on what is an outstanding performance.
On the French television, one commentator said AT's program was just jumps, that there were no transitions, that the skating skills were not good enough and that the gap with the Japanese skater was too small regarding PCS. And I can tell you that this commentator never says anything bad about skaters.
Even if I'm always expecting AS's edges to be called "!" and always see they have not been called, sorry but figure skating is not just jumps and it is a very good message if AT lost to a more balanced skater. I hope she keeps competing and makes progress in artistry.

She just lost the competition of her life and melted down. Cut her a break

She's been in competition long enough. I agree with others who say there must have been something going on in the background, however, this was a bit too much. People (not me) thought Evgenia's reaction was too much. Compared to that...

Olympic games are the toughest competition. Anna - our new Olympic champion. It was powerful and easy at the same time and your character is your uniqueness.
Sasha you made a history, 5 quads - no matter how you turn it around, it is very coooool. You once again proved the whole world that you are the Russian rocket. Not everything worked out but I am happy that your dream came true.
Kamilla hang on, sometimes you have to fall in order to fly high in the future. You were under enormous stress and you are an athlete that the whole world fell in love. Unique and inimitable.
I am quite sure that for Sasha and Kamila these are not last Olympic games. It is very hard to look at their tears not from the joy of victories. But, Never give up.

Anna won already
She does not need a second chance, and he's telling the girls to not abandon their dream
I think this it the meaning and possibly one of the most gracious post by EP

Just got done watching the FS on Peacock without knowing the outcome. Amazing stuff. Still watching the drama off the ice continue.
