2022 Olympics: Women's Free Skate

Honestly Sasha gets torn down either way. She goes for a 3A and 5 Quads which is her only way to mathematically win over her teammates scores prior to this event and she is criticized like crazy for "daring" to consider that that should be enough. Going for a double Axel and limiting her quads would have guaranteeed her losing not only Gold but possibly the podium.

But look at what happened at Russian Nationals 2021. Sasha skated a wonderful SP both technically and components wise (the best from her until this year) and came in 3rd in the SP, she skated a clean LP program with 2 Quad Lutzes in the second half, one in combination and a few 3-3's that was wonderful from beginning to end and her reward for this was 3rd in the LP.

Neither Kamila or Anna skated perfectly and Sasha's score were so far below her teammates that she placed a 3rd overall and not by a measly couple of points like Anna's first win at Nationals where Sasha lost to her by 0.XX points but by a large margin. Let that sink in. Sasha's strategy did not pay off here but no one can argue that she did not have a very good reason to go for her maximum technical ability.

And there's also the fact that Anna did not get a single call in either the SP or the LP here, and was the only skater here to receive that generous gift from the tech panel.

It make me so mad the way posters are bashing her for her justified frustration. If she goes for her max she's out. If she played it safe, not only out of Gold but they would have knocked her off the podium or just a very distant 3rd.

Anna did have quad though. If she didn't, Trusova would have won. Ok so she did more quads, she tried to jump her way to gold medal but she fell in the short program. The rest of her skating was really lacking.
That's why I said "kind of"; I know it's not the exact same situation, but Trusova did perform more quads and feels that she was cheated from Olympic gold based on her technical content, which is similar (and I made sure to use the word "similar," not "identical") to Joubert having a hissy fit after he learned that Buttle got the world title instead of him.

It's not about the number of quads, it matters how you execute them and skate your entire program.

Anna, clean as can be with all positive execution (GOE) and good component scores (PCS).

Trusova, inconsistent execution with some negative scoring (GOE) and lower component scores (PCS) than both Anna and Kaori.

The numbers are all there at the links I provided, if only you read them. I suggest you learn how skating is scored to avoid more confusion in the future. Skating isn't a game of he/she who does the highest number of quads wins.
To be fair, I think it's valid to question why Anna got 0 (!) calls in both programs, the only one to do so, and hasn't really been called much at all over the past few years, when Sasha received many calls. In a world with a perfect tech panel Anna would at least receive !s on her lutzes and perhaps a few qs and <s here and there, judging by how strict the panel has been with the other girls, thus reducing their gap. However, to be fair, this is also nothing new... if I was Sasha I would have expected this going into the Olympics.

I can see your point, but did Buttle fall once and almost fall a second time in the short program? Trusova should have been even further back heading into the long program than she scored. If her plan was to outjump Anna, she didn't even do that right.

Okay Johnny just said he thinks Sasha’s upset because she got silver…

Jesus, “Cruella” has a whole new meaning now. The silver medalist is usually the most upset in these kinds of events but my god, what a poor sport she’s being. At least put on a brave face so you don’t ruin Anna and Kaori’s moment. Go cry in private afterwards.
and why should teenagers that are forced to their breaking points and have such huge pressure on them endure years of whatever training eteri does with them , who basically installs the belief in her skaters that nothing but gold is worthy of something, not show their emotions? actually it shows why we need ao raise the age, because this is what happens if you put teenagers through too much!

Jesus Christ what a poor sport. I understand she had a skate of her life, but this is not the way to go.

I regret I didn't prepare popcorn.
not really remember how we reacted in this forum when it came out that kamila will skate both sp and fp in the teams even? most of us said it was unfair to the others. thats how sahsa feels and she is right in a way, it would have been easy to let her skate the fp in the teams event

Trusova needs to learn to skate well and not worry about whether or not anyone else gets an edge call.

She is 17 and has been competing for most of her life. She knows how competitions work. Only one person will win gold. She got an Olympic silver medal. And the person winning gold is your training mate!
and she is trained in an environment where it gets installed into the girls that nothing but gold matters and that anythng less than gold is not something to be happy about

But I am devastated for Sasha… 5 quads and no gold. I get it that she’s not the most artistic and staff… but boy, 5!!! What else could this girl have possibly done?
A clean 4T would have added 5 points and put her on top; her 4T actually earned fewer points than Anna's solo 3Lz.

I'm not convinced the judges are even watching these programs closely. One gave Sasha +1 in GOE for both the 2A-3T with a pretty clear error and the 4F! which was great aside from the edge call.

Did anyone else notice that they did cut in the TV pictures somewhere between Kaori entering the ice of the flower ceremony and then they all suddenly was on the ice for the flower ceremony? When Kaori went on the ice you could hear Sasha still scream and cry in the background. And then it was suddenly like it was a lot later because Sasha was out there and had stopped crying.

it was cut but very briefly. Like about 10-15 seconds or so.

I was under the impression that Sasha just launched straight behind the podium without doing the usual bow of the skaters that Kaori and Anna did. But I could be wrong.
