Is that right that Ice Dance doesn't start until Saturday? I don't ever remembering there being two days off in between skating events at the Olympics and it's actually slightly more then two days. Also why are only some events this time around in prime time here in the US? In 2018 wasn't everything shown at about the same time but i see the rest of the events are going to be in the middle of the night here in Oregon which didn't happen in 2018.

NBC--biggest media bankroller of the Games--had to negotiate with the IOC and BOCOG for scheduling of all sporting events. They could not get 100% of their preferences for scheduling in US prime time. (This is typical for all Olympics, not just 2022.) For figure skating, the Men SP, FS, and Dance FS were granted schedules that put them in US prime time---Beijing morning for the athletes, which is kind of atypical for top competitions. But the Ladies and Pairs were the compromise, with Japan/Korea/China media wanting scheduling in their prime times. China also wanted Pairs scheduled last, as it is the premier figure skating event in that market, and China's best chance for a FS gold medal.

Also remember that this venue is being used for Short Track, and normally alternates days with Figure Skating in Winter Olympics. There is a lot of activity, competition, and practice sessions to stuff into the venue, and to the adjacent practice rink. There is no perfect timing for everyone across all markets. That's why streaming with replays is a godsend. Technology is our friend. So is strong coffee and No-Doz.

I will just be glad that after 3 straight Olympics in east Asia they are coming back to countries with not as big a time difference.

I almost had a heart attack cuz I didn’t see P&C in the last group. Then realized they are in the 4th group. I CANNOT take anymore skating drama lol
Should have been in the top group but did not compete last year so dropped lower in standings. The scoring so far has not been to outrageous, but would not be shocked if that changed. Especially since S/K did not win in either team event.

so this event is not until tomorrow morning?
I'm so confused coming off my night shift schedule to vacay
Yeah, I just look at the Beijing time now on the right side bar on this site to figure out how long it is to go till the start time, heh. Not ideal, but otherwise I get really confused. Basically, they switched the start time from 9:30 to 19:30 so, it’s like 10 hours after what used to be starting times for teams and men.

I've been checking my phone for Beijing time. Well the time change is what it is. Thanks for answering so quickly. I'll see you in the threads for RD. Meanwhile I am gonna work on additions to my threads - I am getting close to finishing the one below and found far more than I thought I would.

(I'm going to hold my tongue about Piper's costume as I have said enough in the Team event thread.)

ID starts at 6AM tomorrow here on the east coast. I've just put it in my DVR for USA Network and will watch later. As much as I like ID, I prefer my sleep, especially staying up past midnight this past week to watch the Men.

Unpopular opinion, but I actually prefer Asia to Europe for the Winter Olympics. I work as a school library media specialist, so I can’t take time off just because I want to watch the Olympics, so the morning to early afternoon China time/evening to night central time and evening to night China time/early morning central time works for me. When the winter Olympics are back in Europe, everything will be live during the school day, which sucks more than having to wake up at 5 am for me.
