That was so good! Mao doesn't have the same skating skills as her two previous compatriots, but she has improved so much in her presentation, and her comfort with the jumps enables her to have loads of choreography in and out of every element. Her spins are also incredible - she racks up so many points with the GOE on those elements - and she has such a great landing position that really pushes the GOE on her jumps as well. Look at how well she pushes up the free leg on that combo (in the second half too!) She really looked like she was having fun and letting go the whole program, and that final combo spin was so so fast!

That was a showstopping skate for Mao Shimada. She skated with the confidence and expression of the greats. She made me believe she could defy gravity and do whatever she sets her mind to do.
