2024-25 Senior Grand Prix Final Men's Short Program

I definitely agree with the scores here, and hopefully this lead will allow Ilia to go a little easier on the tech content tomorrow (there was a rumour that he was considering going for 7 quads in the free) and we can see him perform his FS throughout just like he did today in the short and like I've seen him do in practice. His free is so good in practice but has fallen a tad flat in competition because he's focused on the jumps, and I really want him to show it at full performance.
I hope that he goes a bit easier too. Look if he doesn't need to do 7 quads why should he. Every time he tries to go right to the edge it worries me because it raises the chance of a major injury. I want him to win but I also want him to stay in one piece while he is doing it. His free is incredible and it could be iconic in our sport. It not often he have a song that's he going take all to hell with him. Ilia though sometime easies up if he feel he can win without it. But sometimes he goes for broke too. Along with 7 quads I also heard that he might want to try a quint as well. For once Ilia play it safe and just do enough to win, the worlds and the Olympics are so much more important that this.

I must say, I do not like this venue. Never have. Looks like something you would see in my country but without life-size bottles of prescription drugs adorning the place. Angers has a much better design than Grenoble.

Wow, Shadorov in 3rd, could have beaten Kagiyama if not for a spin. Niiiiice!

Before this competition, I said that the best competitors take advantage of opportunities when presented with them.

This young man did that. Respect. If this were an ordinal system, I might have had him second, although he's going to have to step up the second mark to be REALLY good.

I only peeked at the results because Mom called me just as I was enjoying ID, and she was screaming bloody murder, and wouldn't say what caused the panic so I thought Malinin fell. But, at a guess, it was Shaidorov-wazrobbed thunder because I don’t see anything else tragic in the scores.

It's not every day someone's rear end is in your face coming out of an element. I missed the q call on Ilia, as did Mark. Camera angle. Glad to see the judges caught it - just doing their job.

I just saw the scores. Oh Kevin  😟 What happened to him this time? I was really hoping for great skates for him to redeem himself from last year and enjoy a great time specially at a home event. But sadly it seems it has not started quite as hoped

Just finished watching it, and how amazing was it, with Shadorov opening it for Malinin, wow. Gorgeous skate by Ilia, so many zesty moves in that program and gorgeous spin in addition to some signature jumping. Gotta laugh that q migrated from Shadorov to Malinin, with Shadorov now over-rotating 4Lz. Yeah, I know other guys skate too, but this was HOT!

So sad for Kévin and the jumps, but so proud that he continued to sell the program even after the falls. He would not have done that when he was in total meltdown mode. I wonder what he will do in the free with no expectations?

Always said, what makes figure skating a sport isn't revolutions in the air or " more measurable" factors, but the "any given comp" mode. What you bring to the ice on a certain day compared to what everyone else brings on a certain day. The essence of sport. (y)

Glad to see Ilia looking like he is enjoying himself and Misha, even if he is still not my favorite skater, rising to the challenge. But these are the men, so we will see what the Free Program brings.

He had 2 falls. But he rallied and never gave up the performance, so that is amazing.
Thanks, I'm very glad that at least he wasn't crestfallen about the mistakes and that he seems to be in a stronger and much better place than last year 💪 That's the most important thing at the end of the day. I was quite heartbroken for him by all that happened last season so I admit that when I just saw the scores, I got quite scared. Really good to hear things are actually better. Huge good vibes to Kevin for the FS, hopefully today was just a day off that he can easily put behind and move onwards and upwards! :ghug::cheer2:

Yes, it was shocking. We couldn't have seen that coming.
