2024 Finlandia Trophy Women's Short Program

no, hon, no. the creamy stuff on carbonara is raw egg yolk (not a fan of carbonara btw)
Sounds to me like the recipe needs to be altered to cream. (not a fan of raw eggs except in homemade egg nog, but only when I know the chickens the eggs came from :party2:)

you can make it simple without adding nor cream nor eggs (not a fan a raw eggs myself for your same reasons, i never put them in i. e. tiramisù myself) just pancetta/guanciale (it's not bacon, it's a different cut) and pecorino cheese (or whatever cheese you have available, it has to be strong and salty, parmisan doesn't do)

Well I drop into the thread to see what's on... and you are discussing eggs

The standings are a bit all over the place, nice to see Lara up there. Who should I go and watch (I will for Hana, even though I'm not a great fan of that dress, her music and skating is lovely) and who will give me heartburn?

To be honest I didn't like many programs, so I don't want to write too much, but some observations:

While I disliked Matsuike's music, her entrance into the step sequence was spectacular.

Everhardt's program is maybe not the best Riverdance ever, but at least she tried and did not skate to another pop song. And so much better than Bradie's short program.

Gutmann has my favorite short program of the season! Creative and edgy, good concept all around, very well done.

Yoshida always tries to have interesting programs, but it doesn't feel natural for her. Also the costume doesn't work for me, I don't understand the choice. I googled the music, the costume seems to be inspired by the album cover? But I still don't feel it lol.

Wow. How I just would love to be in your kitchen and eat all your delicious meals.:drama:

Hey, Mark and his lovely Scottish accent is back!

I'm glad he didn't try to talk up the audience numbers like Chris did last week (I don't actually blame Chris, given the previous ones he was probably asked to highlight it but if we'd had a drink game every time he said "packed to the..." half the posters would have been too blotto to type before we were half way through ) Given some previous Helsinki outings it... wasn't good. Maybe it will pick up for the frees on the weekend.

Best dressed award goes to Mai 💙💜
I loved Mai's dress - I love all her dresses, she's had even more beautiful ones - but I would actually give it to Sarah; I rarely prefer the US women's costumes but I found this one gorgeous, sparkly and classy and so so flattering.

Hana and Lara were both terrific, and even though Lara's costume wasn't conventionally beautiful, I would call it the second best of the night for the way it perfectly matched the theme, music and the way she performed.

This competition is one of the most interesting of the season, because the two "favorites" both withdrew. Hana is one of my favorite woman's skaters right now. I don't like her SP nearly as much as I like her FS. The technical caller was generous on her rotations (as he/she was on all the skaters with the exception of Lindsay for some reason).

Lara was delightful. I have always enjoyed her cool choices. This SP is one of my favorite programs from her (unlike her FS which is one of my least favorites) and I am glad her consistency is improving. Lara isn't known for URs (certainly last week her jumps were rotated )but she definitely had a few URs ignored here, too.

Sara has a great program and excellent jump technique (although I think even she had an ignored UR-the first 3T). She is clearly getting better at performing. She needs to work on her SS. I just don't think it's a focus at her camp. Her consistency may very well land her on the US team, eventhough she definitely doesn't have among the highest ceilings, she has a high floor.

Rino has always been incredible in terms of SS. She still is. Her spins are also lovely. I don't like the program, it's quite generic. If the judging was actually fair, she would be getting a 9 in SS and 7s in the other PCS categories..but we know the judges don't do that. She definitely had some generous technical calling, too ..both jumps in her combo were definitely UR but neither was called.

Mai is so loveable. Her program is a bit empty imho which is normal given that she is coming back from injury. Love Niina and Lindsay who are both wonderful /although completely different artistic skaters but , obviously, they have technical issues. Lindsay was seemingly the only skater to get accurate technical calling (the calls were correct) but since the caller was so generous with others...it felt a bit unfair.

The Finnish girls were very nice to watch. They have good basics.

I predicted Hana, Sara, and Rino would be top 3 here. I am glad that Lara is playing spoiler at the moment. Looking forward to the LP. If the "generous" technical calling continues, we may see some great scores.

Just rewatched:

Hana: I'm not quite into the program, but she manage to do solid run.

Rino:Once again making mistake in short.Quite strange if she goes clean in free again. This time it's only 3 points so should be able to win anyway.

Yun:Nice start for the show.Clean, good program.Nothing super impressive, but nice to see Korean flag there.

Mai:Pure grief she is showing.Even sacrifice her triples to do doubles to be more into program.Queen of sadness while smilling.

Overall as predicted.Boring and weak.On the other hand it's super funny we goes from Skate America where nearly no one achieve Stsq lvl4 to Finland Trophy where nearly every aspect is lvl 4 for everyone 😂 ISU really need to work on judges more or keep same judges for entire Grand Prix Series...

Not gonna bother to watch first half of free skate.See you for 2nd group.
